RCPE NYCT HLCX KCS and BAR provide part of this eclectic mix at Selkirk.

66 531 provides a splash of colour as it powers a morning Freightliner through Oxford Station. The weather forecast had been wrong for the day so far and wasn't going to change. The sun didn't appear at all and it barely got above 3 all day. The light was awful under a solid overcast but this location was a great spot to shoot comings and goings from. I'd like to return on a sunnier day.

The car park used to be sidings and the building top right, the SAID School of Business is built on the site of the L&NWR/LMS Oxford Rewley Road Station. Of great architectural merit it was disassembled and moved to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre where it's now the main entrance.

The Boeing Collection

From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

Air Canada Boeing 747 233B C-GAGA is seen here in original livery, taxiing for a 28L departure at London Heathrow. A Lufthansa Boeing 727 lurks behind in the queue. According to my log book, the aircraft was operating flight AC857.

I have to say I was not a huge fan of the Air Canada 747s as they were so regular at Heathrow. Without trying to offend anyone :) they were in that category of 'slightly boring' 747s that I would have included with the 747s of Air India, PIA, TWA, Pan Am, British Airways to name but a few. However, now in 2020, I MISS THEM ALL :) I captured this one for posterity as it was in the original livery, with that black 'bib', which I rather liked.

C-GAGA c/n 20977 Boeing 747-233B - was delivered new to Air Canada in March 1975, one of five that Air Canada flew in the 1970s along with C-FTOA-E. The aircraft flew almost its entire life with the airline, for over twenty years, with just a couple of leases out to Air National in 1983, and to Garuda Indonesia in 1993. In 1999 the aircraft was flown to Marana, Arizona for long-term storage, and was finally broken up around 2013.

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith E camera and 300mm lens. From an original slide, scanned and unrestored.

You can see a random selection of my aviation memories here: www.flickriver.com/photos/heathrowjunkie/random/

I'll provide a little history for those interested below. But this island fort is an attraction to recreational boaters and divers. You can see the skyline of Melbourne on the horizon. Enlarge this photograph and you'll also see hundreds of small boats out on the Bay enjoying this beautiful Sunday morning.

"South Channel Fort, also known as South Channel Island, is a 0.7 ha artificial island in southern Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia, 6 km north-east of the town of Sorrento. It was part of a network of fortifications protecting the narrow entrance to Port Phillip.

It is 122 m long, 76 m wide, and is 6.4 m above sea-level, and was built on a shoal, close to the main shipping channel of the bay, with 14,000 tonnes of bluestone boulders, concrete and sand. It was constructed during the 1880s as part of a defensive strategy to protect and control access by sea to Port Phillip and the cities of Melbourne and Geelong. Its principal purpose was to illuminate the main shipping channel at night, and to explode mines under attacking ships which had breached the defences at Port Phillip Heads. The fort still contains remnants of its original military equipment, including disappearing guns." (From Wikipedia).

Between 1890 and 1916 over 100 soldiers were housed on the island.

The Museum of Liverpool in Liverpool, England, is the newest addition to the National Museums Liverpool group having opened in 2011 replacing the former Museum of Liverpool Life. National Museums Liverpool intention is for the new venue to tell the story of Liverpool and its people, and reflect the city’s global significance. The museum is housed in a new purpose-built building on the Mann Island site at the Pier Head.

The museum, designed by architects 3XN and engineers Buro Happold, was expected to cost £72 million and provide 8,000 square metres of exhibition space, housing more than 6,000 objects.

From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_of_Liverpool

A stile is a structure which provides people a passage through or over a fence or boundary via steps, ladders, or narrow gaps. Stiles are often built in rural areas along footpaths, fences, walls or hedges to prevent farm animals moving from one enclosure to another whilst allowing path users still to use the route.

In the United Kingdom many stiles were built under legal compulsion (see Rights of way in the United Kingdom), however in the US there is not a standard design and there are a wide variety of types.

This stile is on the SS25 footpath on the Isle of Wight which links Merrie Gardens with Isle of Wight Airport. In England and Wales, other than in the 12 Inner London Boroughs and the City of London, the "right of way" refers to paths on which the public have a legally protected right to pass and re-pass. The law in England and Wales differs from Scots law in that rights of way only exist where they are so designated (or are able to be designated if not already), whereas in Scotland any route that meets certain conditions is defined as a right of way, and in addition there is a general presumption of access to the countryside ("right to roam"). Private rights of way or easements also exist (see also Highways in England and Wales).

Notice regarding "Lot No.402_”.

From now on I will host "Lot No.402_".

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

Interviews and novels.

About my book.

I published a book a long time ago.

At that time # I uploaded my interview as a PDF on the internet.

Its Japanese and English.

I will publish it for free.

For details # I explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take a picture.

A sense of distance to the work.

All of these have something in common.

I wrote down what I felt and left it.

I hope my text will be read by many people.

Thank you.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Nature paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs will wind you around a stunning, safe wetland habitat littered with pockets of woodland and wildflower meadows, and the friendly Kingfisher Tearooms is a great place to you recharge with friends and family. Hides allow you to get up close and personal with birds such as woodpeckers and kingfishers and during your wander you may also encounter mammals such as roe deer and hedgehogs. The ponds provide a home for newts, frogs and whirligig beetles with staff on hand to show you the best spots for pond dipping. The meadows during summer are full of butterflies including small tortoiseshell, in comparison to a snow laden winter where you may be lucky enough to spot our overwintering bitterns – this globally threatened species is a real highlight for any wildlife watcher.

Come summer vivid purple loosestrife and Southern marsh orchids provide plenty of colour.

The Potteric Carr Nature Reserve trail guide* is available to download below, which includes a map with all the hides and paths marked on so that you don't miss out any of the wonderful habitats and species during your visit. Also don't miss out on the Minibeast Totem Pole trail, which has a podcast put together by Pheasant Bank Academy.

For an idea of the geat array of wildlife that can be discovered on the nature reserve take a look at our latest sightings blog.

Please note we unfortunately do not allow dogs or bikes onto the reserve as they may disturb or harm our wonderful wildlife.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust received funding from the BIG Lottery to develop a community pond dipping station - an exciting new resource for local community groups to use.

This project provides community groups with an outdoor classroom stocked with all the necessary equipment; ID guides, interpretation and information to ensure a memorable visit to the nature reserve. We also hope discovering the benefits of having a pond will inspire action in the community. Ponds may be small but they are an important part of our landscape and create hotspots for a huge range of wildlife. Making a pond is one of the best ways to quickly and easily attract a variety of wildlife into your own backyard, whilst also providing a fascinating resource for all

www.ywt.org.uk/connect/flutter-by

Flutter By at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve started in March 2013 and aims to inspire all about our fascinating winged wildlife. Read on for more...

Generously funded through WREN, we have been able to create a new sensory garden and natural play area to be enjoyed by both the wildlife at Potteric Carr and most importantly you … our visitors!

WREN is a not for profit business that awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK from funds donated by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) to the Landfill Communities Fund.

Peter Cox, managing director of WREN explains that "WREN is committed to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families. The Flutter By project will provide a fantastic space for local people to get outdoors and have some fun. We’re delighted to support Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to make this happen and look forward to the completion of the project in March 2013."

Invertebrates .... The basis of all ecosystems

7-spot ladybird - Credit Rachel ScopesWildflower meadows offer a diverse habitat rich in wildlife but this colourful landscape has been restricted in the UK due to change in land use and management since around the second world war. The decline in these habitats has been shown to have a negative effect on many invertebrate species, which in turn has caused noted declines in various other animals such as farmland birds and other small mammals. Invertebrate populations, ‘minibeasts’, play an important role in all ecosystems, by providing a service to both the environment and the species within it. Minibeasts not only provide an essential source of food for various animals, they also act as waste recyclers, pollinators and pest controllers and can be used to assess the ecological quality of a habitat. For these reasons the conservation of wildflower meadows are of increasing importance.

Flutter By

Flutter By, a component of The Connect Project, has been created to aid public engagement with the Humberhead Levels Nature Improvement Area (NIA), by building an area which can be use for exploration and learning. The old sensory garden at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, which at present can be found along the Dragonfly Trail has undergone a transformation as our team of staff, contractors and volunteers all got their hands dirty rebuilding a natural play space and butterfly garden.

The garden has been filled with wildflowers which will attract numerous invertebrate species, in turn encouraging other species of birds and mammals to take advantage of the increasingly diversified habitat on the nature reserve. Along with the creation of new habitats, a variety of natural play equipment was commissioned which has been built and designed with the minibeast theme in mind! To help you learn more about the importance of invertebrates within the ecosystem and make your visit to the garden even more enjoyable a minibeast audio trail has also been put together. This trail consists of a number of minibeast inspired totem poles, each with a downloadable podcast for you to listen to as you search the garden (see below).

In addition to the environmental benefits Flutter By will create, it gives you a chance to get involved in a project which will benefit conservation and your local community.

There are various ways to get involved in Flutter By, from helping with the construction of the Garden and activity station to attending training sessions to learn how to teach groups in your community.

Children's Events

We have many children's events running throughout the year, many of which take place in or around the Flutter By Garden. Find out what events are coming up at Potteric Carr on our What's On pages.

Corporate Workdays

Flutter By is an ongoing project which needs continuous maintenance; one of the ways in which you can help is by booking a corporate workday. Corporate workdays are a brilliant opportunity to develop better working relationships, spend a day out of your normal working environment and make a difference to your local wildlife! Find out more about corporate workdays by contacting Lizzie Dealey.

Community Leader Training

Community Leader Training events offer a great opportunity to community group leaders to learn about minibeasting activities. Click here to find out more.

Explore the mosaic of habitats and wonderfully diverse wildlife at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve by picking one of four trails, many of which are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The four routes are marked by coloured posts which include:

Dragonfly Trail - orange markers; 3 km lasting approx. 50 minutes

Expresso Trail - brown markers; 0.5 km lasting approx. 10 minutes

Railway Walk - red markers; 3 km lasting approx. 50 minutes

Wetland Walk - blue markers; 5 km lasting approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

All four routes cover approximately 8 km if you decide to make a day of it and take in the majority of the nature reserve. Please download the Potteric Carr Nature Reserve leaflet at the bottom of the page which shows all of the footpaths. On all routes you will come across several bird hides, the majority with ramp access. There is also a special iSpy leaflet to download for children, showing the Dragonfly Trail.

For a better view of the wildlife, stop in one of fourteen hides, which offer excellent vantage points.

After your walk be sure to stop in at the Kingfisher Tearooms for a cream tea or cake.

If you've brought along your children or grandchildren then don't miss out on the Discovery Room, open during weekends and in the school holidays and packed full with wildlife-themed books, games and crafts. Activity rucksacks are also available for our younger guests - ask at reception for more details.

We do ask that you keep to the footpaths so as not to disturb our wonderful wildlife, as conservation work is carried out in these areas. Please be aware that if crossing the railway you will need to be in possession of either your membership card or ticket.

We hope you enjoy the walks and don't forget to let us know of your wildlife sightings by adding them to our 'Potteric Carr Sightings' Blog in the left hand menu!

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with the help of volunteers work to ensure the variety of habitats at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve are maintained.

Reed management at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve - Credit Jim HorsfallSome of this work involves reed cutting, this is carried out on a 10-year rotation with different blocks cut on each year of the cycle.

The grasslands are managed through a conservation grazing programme using Highland cattle and Hebridean sheep to allow the less competitive species to establish. Hay cutting also occurs in some areas to remove nutrients and improve the grassland for wildflowers.

In the woodland some areas are coppiced and other trees are thinned out to let more light through to the woodland floor and encourage woodland flowers to grow.

Footpaths and benches are also maintained to ensure guests enjoy a pleasant visit!

Regular volunteer days are held on site to help with the management of the wonderful habitats and species found here.

UPDATE – Oct. 14th

I know it’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted something on here, and I know people have been asking for updates (rightly so) – so I figured I’d provide some in a simple post here.

Two things must be made clear first – 1) my printer, who I’ve worked with forever and who produces the best prints of any printer I’ve worked with, has become very successful this past year and as such is trying to catch up with the growth of their business. As such, their times to process orders has more than tripled since the beginning of the year. This has caused many of the prints and test prints, etc. to be delayed by more than 2 months each. So things are slower to get printed now than ever before. 2) we are very close to getting our setup exactly as we need it with the injection mold company that we work with so that our parts are to the exact specifications and quality that we want, and that you expect. The injection molding process, and learning what is needed to create good parts, has been a huge learning process for us. The good news is that after months and months of working and tweaking things, we are very close to having our first parts (for Night Crusader and Original Super Soldier – and 1 surprise figure) ready to send to the printer.

With that being said, here’s some updates on some figs coming soon…

Homemade Arachnid Hero

Our first update will be for all those who ordered the Homemade Arachnid Hero. We are anticipating that this figure will be sent out to our presales customers and resellers the last weekend of October (2 weeks from now) and will go on sale on the website a week or two after that. We will try to post pictures as soon as he arrives.

Night Crusader

The test prints for the Night Crusader have been finalized and approved and we are all ready to go to print it. I usually don’t share pictures of the figures before they are completed, but since you all have been waiting so patiently for this figure, I thought I’d bend at least one rule to make you feel confident in your upcoming fig). However, we are awaiting the injection molded parts to arrive, so that we can align the head print exactly with the cowl part (we want to make sure his eyes are aligned correctly in those hole). We received the most recent samples from the mold and we still need to make a couple of final adjustments, so that it is to the exact quality that I know we all expect from the top customizers. He should be completed before Black Friday (week of Thanksgiving), if everything goes to plan. I will post an update if that is any sooner.

Original Super Soldier

The custom helmet part is being completed at the same time as the Night Crusader cowl, as they share the same mold, and as such is facing many of the same needs for updated changes. However, we are still also processing the prints still for this figure. The hope is that this will be available a couple weeks after Night Crusader is released.

Surprise New Figure

Along with the Original Super Soldier, we will be releasing a third, not yet published custom figure that will include 1 custom headpiece and a printed accessory. I think you guys should be very happy and surprised by this guy – can’t wait to show you! When the part is completed and we send him in for printing, we’ll provide a render of him to let you know what’s coming!

That’s all for now. I would first and foremost like to thank you all for your unwavering patience and kind understanding while I bring Phoenix Customs to a new era of custom figs. However, this kind of growth is not without hiccups and challenges, that is for sure. What IS for sure, is that we are not going to be bringing about products that can’t compete with the best out there. We will NOT sacrifice quality. We want to bring our figures to the next evolution, where unique custom parts and top quality printing go hand-in-hand. We can’t wait to bring these pre-ordered figs to life in the next couple months and to show you what we have in store for the coming months of the new year! So many good figs that I can’t wait to release!!

Take care!

The town of Boonton provides a backdrop as a "Boonton Scoot" passes the URHS Railroad Museum [For a Day] event. NJ Transit was kind enough to provide this shuttle train service between the Morristown Line at Denville and Boonton in support of the United Railroad Historical Society of NJ. The west end of the Montclair-Boonton Line does not currently have weekend service. "Museum" displays in this view include NJ Transit's Erie heritage unit, NJT's newest ALP-45PD and NJT ALP-44 #4424 which is now part of the URHS collection. Having the CNJ heritage unit power the scoot was a nice touch.

The Jökulsárlón lake provides outstanding views of the ice cap, a vast dome of ice that rises to a height of 3,000 ft (910 m). It spills to the lagoon 12 mi (19 km) away from the jagged glacier hill to the edge of the water line. The lake developed only about 60 years ago (1948 is mentioned), when the entire area was less than 100 ft (30 m) of glacier, which was only 250 yd (230 m) from the Atlantic Ocean, and 2 mi (3.2 km) away from Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull was at the shore line of the ocean and dropped icebergs into the ocean. However, it started drifting inland rapidly every year, leaving deep gorges en route, which got filled with melted water and large chunks of ice. These icebergs gather at the mouth of the lake's shallow exit, melt down into smaller ice blocks, and roll out into the sea. In summer, icebergs melt and roll down the channel into the sea. The lake does not freeze in winter. Ice water and soil make a unique ecological phenomenon. Jökulsárlón Lake, the "glacier lake", is now reported to have doubled in size in the recent 15-year period. The huge blocks of ice that calve from the edge of Vatnajökull are about 30 m (98 ft) high, which fills the lagoon stocked with icebergs. Some icebergs appear naturally sculpted on account volcanic ash from ancient eruptions that partly covers them

Given the current retreat rate of Vatnajökull, likely a deep fjord will develop where Jökulsárlón is now. This retreat is also posing a threat to the National Highway Route 1 of Iceland. The lagoon is 75 km (47 mi) to the west of Höfn town and 60 km (37 mi) east of Skaftafell. It is accessible by the ring road, Route 1, that goes across the lake, and where parking facilities have been provided for visitors. It is also known as the "tourist conveyor belt".Isolated large blocks of icebergs can be seen on the black sand beach, sometimes called "diamond beach" because of ice chunks scattered on the sand.

The icebergs that calve from the glacier edge move towards the river mouth and get entrenched at the bottom. The movement of the icebergs fluctuates with the tide currents, as well as being affected by wind. However, they start floating as icebergs when their size is small enough to drift to the sea. These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, which depends on the air trapped within the ice and is an interplay of light and ice crystals.

With the sanders activated to provide extra traction, three units slowly crawl their way up the grade into Palmer Lake with a loaded ballast train.

Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God..

This image is from most recent trip to Cuba.

Sorry it’s been a minute since I last posted. Things in Los Angeles have been taking my attention away from posting and post processing my images- Then I went Cuba. Then I came back 0n the 6th. Then I had to put my entire studio back together from prepping to bug out from the fires

That said…

CATS!!!!!!! I LOVE CATS!!!!!!!! OK correction to the last post- I could make a career of photographing skies, sunsets and CATS!!!! And to get a cat basking in good light….. I treat light when I conceptualize an image as if it is as solid of an object as the subject that is interrupting my beautiful light. What more is there to the life of a photographer? Life is too short to shoot in bad light and to DRINK bad coffee and cheap wine.

I shot this with the Z6III NIKKOR 28-400mm f/4-8 lens. 1/500 of a second ISO 220. Image raw processed in NX Studio and Photoshop CC with the NiK collection.

March Point. Padilla Bay/Fidalgo Bay.

"Hosting one of the largest Great Blue Heron colonies in Western North America, this island of forest sits between Padilla and Fidalgo Bays. Vera and Bud Kinney donated this property to Skagit Land Trust in 1994 to protect the nesting herons. With the cooperation of neighboring landowners, each year, Skagit Land Trust conducts a nest count in the heronry. 680 heron nests were counted in 2019 in this relatively small area, which provides easy access to feeding grounds for the herons. Unfortunately, the Trust does not have access to all neighboring property, and therefore some heron nests are uncounted. The overall trend, however, shows increasing number of heron nests in the colony on SLT property and the property to which we have access -- and there are likely to be hundreds more nests on the adjacent property to which we do not have access." March Point Heronry

I created this for my son's LinkedIn profile banner image. He lives in Spain but provides a service to local companies as an English copywriter.

So I promised to explain and give an overview of how I created this image if anybody was interested and I have had a few messages and a post below. So here goes:

I lit the pencil and droplets using two LED panels quite close to the subject. I set-up the pencil held in place with a clamp. Shot using a 100mm macro lens I had to shoot the pencil in two shots. This was due to needing to be close to get the resolution I needed and it also helped to achieve the floating look of the pencil in space.

All of the videos on this type of refraction droplet photography will tell you to use water and a syringe or to add some glycerine. I found that using a aloe vera clear gel allowed me to create larger droplets which is a big advantage especially with this shot where I was not able to get in ultra close.

The LED panel behind created the lighting for the flags which I positioned by hand as both flags were on small sticks. The Union Jack and Spanish Flags I shot separately and then I combined in processing.

Focus was quite critical as my depth of field was fairly limited as I was also shooting fairly wide. To get the right amount of light on the pencil I used my Profoto B10 and a snoot directly on to the pencil.

It was important to have the flags within the image to let the viewer know that this was indeed a refracted image in the 'water' droplet. I did try without the flags in the background but it was far less impactful. However, to stop the flags from competing with the droplets the flags needed to be out of focus.

I then further created separation from the droplets by adding during post processing a graduated blue. The image was created using a mainly blue palette.

I think that gives a reasonable overview any other questions just post below and I will get back to you.

This park provides access to the Lake Worth Lagoon for recreational activities. A Boat ramp with 10 lanes is on-site and provides good Intracoastal access and easy access to the Atlantic Ocean for deep sea fishing through the Palm Beach Inlet near Peanut Island. Restrooms are available at Currie Park. Park is open from sunrise to sunset. A fishing pier 200 feet in length gives good access to the Intracoastal for fishing.

"What does a man do, Walter? A man provides for his family. And he does it even when he's not appreciated, or respected, or even loved. He simply bears up and he does it. Because he's a man."

After watching Breaking Bad with some friends, I was inspired to post more of my custom LEGO Breaking Bad minifigures, mainly Gustavo "Gus" Fring.

Gus was definitely a character I wanted to recreate correctly, and I think I did for the most part.

Gus has dark tan paints with black shoes and a black belt with gold buckle painted on.

His torso was a plain yellow torso, then I painted on the dark yellowish tan collar and pocket as well as the dark blue tie. I think I could have done better on the tie, so I may go back and redo that part.

His face is my favorite part of the figure. It was originally a Captain Panaka head from an older Sith Infiltrator set, which then I rubbed the eyebrows and mouth off with a pencil eraser. I painted on his glasses, mouth, and other facial details. Then, I painted on his black hair which I then dry brushed in dark gray to make him look a bit older.

In order to complete the figure, I knew I had to make his infamous accessory: the Box Cutter. It was made out of a heavily modified green BrickArms Combat Knife and Green Stuff. I then painted it green, then added the silver blade.

Hopefully you all like this figure, but tell me what you think!

If you favorite, a comment is appreciated as well!

The nearby park provides the foreground here for another shot of the Euromast. Not one of the cities more attractive high rise additions in my view........

From Wikipedia : "Euromast is an observation tower in Rotterdam, Netherlands, designed by Hugh Maaskant constructed between 1958 and 1960. It was specially built for the 1960 Floriade, and is a listed monument since 2010. The tower is a concrete structure with an internal diameter of 9 m (30 ft) and a wall thickness of 30 cm (12 in). For stability it is built on a concrete block of 1,900,000 kg (4,200,000 lb) so that the centre of gravity is below ground. It has a "crow's nest" observation platform 96 m (315 ft) above-ground and a restaurant. Originally 101 m (331 ft) in height it was the tallest building in Rotterdam. It lost this position to the high-rise of Erasmus MC (113.5 m, 372 ft) which was completed in 1968, but regained it when the Space Tower was added to the top of the building in 1970, giving an additional 85 m (279 ft). Euromast is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. In 2008 and 2009, the tower hosted an extreme sports event which featured BASE jumping. "

Some provide for their selves. Some provide for their families. Some extend that to their friends. It takes someone special to consider providing for their neighborhood or even community. It takes hard work and a kind heart to work to provide for your country. It takes someone quite extraordinary to care enough to work on providing for the entire planet....

That is who I strive to be.

CN 8805 provides ample horsepower for the weedspraying train as it passes the New Richmond depot. A kid waiting at the Knowles Ave crossing has rolled back a bit just as the crew eases off on the sprayers. He'll probably still be able to have his own family some day. A closed circuit camera has been hastily wired up to the handrail stanchion on the front of the locomotive. The camera provides a head-ups to the spraying crew about what may or may not need to be sprayed. June 19, 2024.

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However, as a result of various appraisals, it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

Interviews and novels.

About my book.

I published a book a long time ago.

At that time, I uploaded my interview as a PDF on the internet.

Its Japanese and English.

I will publish it for free.

For details, I explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take a picture.

A sense of distance to the work.

All of these have something in common.

I wrote down what I felt and left it.

I hope my text will be read by many people.

Thank you.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Nikon coolpix 8700

Please do NOT post your own pictures if you are kind enough to provide a comment or reward. I consider this rude and unwelcome.

Dolphin lamp standards provide electric light along much of the Thames Embankment in London, United Kingdom. Two stylised dolphins or sturgeons writhe around the base of a standard lamp post, supporting a fluted column bearing electric lights in an opaque white globe, topped by a metal crown. Many of the lamps are mounted on granite plinths.

The lamp posts were designed by George John Vulliamy and modelled by Charles Henry Mabey. They were based on statues of dolphins or fish with intertwined tails at the Fontana del Nettuno in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome, which was constructed in 1822–23.

P.S The little yellow man is sitting at the base of the plinth looking out over the water, it made me smile when I saw him. I wonder how long he has been there.

The Nikon F3, Nikon's first pro-level camera with an electronic shutter, was in production from 1980 through 2001. The pictured camera is fitted with the HP High-Eyepoint prism.

-------------

The Nikon F3 was the first professional level Nikon SLR to incorporate an electronic shutter and automatic exposure capability. Of course, the F3 provides the same high-quality materials, refined fit and finish, and durability for professional use as all F-Series cameras. Like its predecessors, the F3 was part of a remarkably broad and advanced professional camera system.

When used in the new aperture priority mode, shutter speed range is a stepless 8 sec. to 1/2000 sec. An F3HP is an F3 body with a so-called "High-Eyepoint" DE-3 prism. Compared with the original F3 standard DE-2 eyelevel finder, the F3HP has a larger viewfinder eyepiece. Actually, most of the F3s that I have seen incorporate the HP viewfinder. Of course, the F3HP viewfinder provides a 100% frame coverage, like all F-series cameras, and a large, bright image with 0.8x magnification. Nikon offered 21 interchangeable focusing screens for the F3, but for general photography, the standard K screen (with split image, microprism collar, and matte field) is satisfactory.

Back in the day, I waited years to upgrade to the F3HP because I liked my F2AS so much. However, since I, like many, had been using a Nikon FE as my second body together with the F2AS, I eventually succumbed to the desire to have aperture priority auto exposure metering on my main camera body, as well.

The F3HP, particularly without the optional MD-4 motor drive attachment, has a perfect shape, body size, and weight for comfortable and stable holding as well as all-day carrying. The F3's built-in handgrip allows a firm grasp.

One advantage of the F3 over the F and F2 is that the exposure meter is incorporated into the camera body instead of the prism. As a result, you can now change viewfinders and still keep the exposure meter. The F3HP's easy-to-view High Eyepoint DE-3 prism is perfect for most purposes, but for various specialized professional applications, Nikon offered other types, such as the DW-3 Waist-Level Finder, the DA-2 Action Finder, and the DW-4 6x Magnification Finder. Nikon even produced the DX-1 AF Finder, with an electronic focus-aid indication!

The exposure meter on/off switch is a plastic lever that is incorporated around the shutter release button. This is something of a precursor to a similar switch on the future F4 and other newer Nikon camera bodies. However, I find the switch on the F3 quite tight and hard to turn. In fact, my original switch got damaged from long use and became stuck in the off position. I had get the switch replaced at my local repair shop. Fortunately, there is no reason why the switch could not just be left in the on position during periods when the camera is in frequent use. Even with the switch in the on position, the meter circuit does not actually activate unless the film wind crank is pulled slightly away from the body and the shutter release button pushed part way down. The shutter and meter are locked off when the film advance lever is pressed into the lock position. The F3 is the first F-level camera to utilize a standard ISO shutter release thread in the center of the shutter release button, instead of the older AR-2 style connector. The shutter release button is positioned just right, in the middle of the body, and has a silky-smooth feel.

As indicated above, the F3 is the first F-series camera body to support aperture priority automatic exposure instead of just manual exposure adjustment. Simply turn the shutter speed dial to "A" to enter this mode, then adjust the aperture ring appropriately. A really cool feature of the F3 is the 80% center-weighted exposure meter, concentrated within the viewfinder's 12 mm outer reference circle area. The 80% central weighting is a great compromise between Nikon's standard 60/40 weighting and a spot meter. The 80% weight allows you to easily meter on the most important section of the image, while still incorporating some exposure information from the remainder of the frame. You can center the 80% central spot on the metering target, then hold down the exposure memory lock button on the front of the body and re-frame. However, since I personally find it uncomfortable to use the exposure lock button in this position, I usually use manual exposure mode in these cases unless I am in a rush to shoot.

The F3 viewfinder includes at the top of the frame an ADR readout of the aperture setting on all Nikon F-mount lenses that have an aperture ring (basically any pre-G lens will work on the F3). To the left is an LCD display of the automatically or manually selected shutter speed, in full stop increments. One thing that I don't like about the F3's manual exposure mode is the compact-style manual exposure indicator display in the viewfinder. When in manual exposure mode, correct exposure is shown by small +- indicators to the left of the shutter speed display. You adjust the exposure until both the + and - indicators are visible at the same time. This system, while extremely accurate, is not as clear or quick as the match needle setup in the Nikkormat EL/FE/FE2/FM3A or the three diode (-o+) setup in the F2AS/FM/FM2n system. The F3's viewfinder display is illuminated by ambient light. However, you can push a small button on the prism to electronically illuminate the display in the dark.

The F3 is the last F-series body to have manual film wind, unless you attach the optional MD-4 Motor Drive (with up to 6 frames per second performance). Starting from the F4, the F-Series evolved to built-in automatic film advance. This is great if you need to often shoot rapidly. However, if you just want a high-end film camera for slower, more deliberative shooting, manual film advance provides quieter film operation, much better battery life, and a smaller and lighter package compared with the auto-advance F4, F5 and F6. Unlike the semi-pro bodies like the FE and FM, the film advance lever on the F3 may be operated in one complete stroke or a series of shorter strokes. The F3 can be used without a battery in an emergency. Just push the mechanical shutter release lever on the front of the camera, although the mechanical shutter speed is limited to only 1/60 second. That is certainly a far cry from a full range of shutter speeds, but at least flexible enough for many situations, if needed. Nevertheless, lack of power is almost never going to become an issue. My F3HP battery and shutter have never died throughout decades of use, and a single battery seems to last forever with the camera's low power usage.

The meter coupling lever on the F3 can be locked up to allow mounting of prehistoric non-AI lenses, although most users probably converted their non-AI lenses to AI decades ago. As a pro-level camera, the F3 has a proper mirror lock-up feature for certain specialized lenses and for slow exposure times. Of course, multiple exposures on a single frame are also supported.

Since the camera has an electronic shutter, it also has an electronic self-timer, complete with a flashing red light, just like modern SLRs.

The eyepiece has the usual shutter lever, but still no adjustable diopter. This is no problem, however, since Nikon still makes screw-in diopter lenses for the F3. Actually, the F3HP works fine with diopter lenses for the F90X, F100, etc. These diopter lenses have screw-in rings that are slightly thinner than harder to find ones that are actually designed for the F3. The large F3HP viewfinder eyepiece is relatively easy to use with glasses. On the F3 without the HP prism, use diopters that are designed for the FM/FE series of cameras.

In order to use an electronic flash unit, just like the earlier generation F and F2 bodies, the F3 still requires that an accessory shoe be mounted over the rewind knob, or that a special Nikon F3 flash unit be mounted directly onto the camera in the same position. (Of course, you could also use a side-bracket flash with a synch terminal cable.) Interestingly, the maximum flash synchronization speed is 1/80 sec., slightly slower than the 1/90 sec. maximum synch speed on the Nikon F2. The new advance is that the F3 offers TTL automatic flash exposure, although the F3 can't simultaneously meter ambient light. The powerful F3-era Nikon SB-16a Speedlight is a perfect match for the camera. Newer Nikon flash units can also provide TTL flash functionality with the F3, when used with the special adapter AS-17, which also allows convenient flash exposure compensation.

If you don't have the AS-17, you can do balanced fill flash the old way, as follows. First, set the background exposure manually, with a shutter speed at or below the maximum electronic flash synchronization speed. Then set the appropriate camera distance based on the film ISO, selected aperture and guide number. Finally, fill flash is achieved by further shutting down the aperture by 1-2 stops, and correspondingly adjusting the shutter speed. You can also set the SB-16a to TTL and adjust the flash exposure down by 1-2 stops using the exposure compensation dial. The compensation dial does not adjust the background exposure in this case because both shutter speed and aperture are set manually. All that being said, for fill flash, it would frankly be easier and faster to use a more modern body such as the F90X, F100, F5 or F6, which all provide various forms of 3D matrix automatic balanced fill-flash, Nikon's most advanced flash system. The F4 also has a pretty good flash capability, but it is still one generation older pre-3D technology (i.e., no communication of subject distance from D-type lenses.)

The basic Nikon F3 and F3HP were available in black. The Nikon F3 was also available in a few special variants, all of which had the High-Eyepoint viewfinder, such as the Nikon F3/T with a titanium exterior, the Nikon F3 Press, and various limited edition models. The F3/T was produced in both champagne and black colors.

As a pro-level camera, the F3 offers the benefits of aperture priority auto exposure, basic TTL flash, and a more compact and elegant design than the prior-generation F and F2 bodies. Compared with its later descendants, the F3 does not provide such benefits as matrix (multi-segment) metering, automatic balanced fill flash, multiple exposure modes, and built-in automatic film advance. On the other hand, the core F3 is significantly smaller and lighter than those later pro-level bodies. And, when used properly, the F3's exposure metering system can be just as effective, or even more so, compared with the early-generation matrix metering systems in some later Nikon cameras. For deliberative photographers who still like to shoot film, the F3 and F3HP provide a highly-refined and relatively compact manual focus platform for the extensive universe of "Pre-G"-type Nikon F-Mount lenses.

Highways provide access to visual, timeless treasures that you can't often experience from the Interstates. This single photograph provides a richness of rural flavor, from the alluring curve which leads through the community, to the rural school zone on the highway, to the homestead with the detached garage and larger barn. You may be able to see the old pickup truck in the left-side stall of the barn.

For those who have a few minutes the attached link provides a most interesting read into the background of the World War 11 Gloster Gladiators of Malta. In essence when Italy entered the war on the side of the Axis powers Mussolini's airforce commenced airborne attacks on 11th May 1940. Seemingly without any air cover the British who governed Malta found themselves in a particularly tough place and could expect nothing more than an Italian invasion. Thankfully a number of crates were uncovered that had been left behind by a visiting aircraft carrier. Inside were the components of six Gloster Gladiators. These six ancient biplanes were hurriedly assembled and used in such a way that any three were always available to defend the island. Any combination of three (three of the six) became known as Faith Hope and Charity. At times literally hundreds of Italian bombers were used to bomb the island. All the time being harassed by the Gladiators. Somehow these old Gladiators managed to stave off the aggressors until at some point in June the RAF were able to replenish their defences through the arrival of a number of Hawker Hurricanes.

To put into perspective how important the island was to both sides, later in the war during the siege of 1942 Valletta became the single most heavily bombed place on earth.

This photo depicts the only one of the six aircraft to have survived. It is displayed without its wings inside the museum at Fort Saint Elmo in Valetta.

Snow capped Kilpatrick Hills provide a spectacular backdrop as 37407 canters into Dumbarton Central with 1Y13 on Wednesday 12th February 1986. The 0840 from Fort William misses this 1220 Oban service at Glasgow Queen Street by 10 minutes requiring a 48 minute wait here with plenty of time for lunch-typically a bag of greasy chips with salt & sauce washed down with a bottle of Irn Bru. Talking of girders, the locomotive is passing over Church Street as it enters the east end of the station while on the left are the ornate battlements parallel with Bankend Road-the whole station being sited high above the town on an impressive viaduct, the Up Passenger Loop on the left has now been lifted. The plate above 37407's drawbar is noticeably higher than on most of the class giving a distinct notch in the bottom of the bodywork, both ends were like that. This view concludes my short interlude of photographs taken exactly 29 years before posting.

Crocosmias provide a burst of colour late in the season, when most other flowering plants have faded. There are hundreds of crocosmia varieties to choose from, flowering in red, orange or yellow from June to late summer, above ornamental, strappy, bright green leaves.

Crocosmias are also known as montbretia, although this tends to refer to the common species Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora. This has naturalised in many areas and is considered to be invasive. The cultivated varieties are less likely to become invasive.

Place Polonaise Drive in Grimsby, Ontario provides a clear view Northward across Lake Ontario (and yes, that is a faint Toronto on the horizon on the left of the frame). As sunny and warm as it may appear, almost tropical, this was taken on May 8 and the current lake water temperature was 6.2C/43.6F. Not very inviting. A fire hydrant was under repair and covered with a big bundle of orange construction fencing. But the colours worked for me, particularly the orange-blue combo. Now to wait a few more weeks for a more civilized water temperature. - JW

Although some facts on 2001 flood in Gdańsk were given at other photos of that "event", I have promised I would provide more enhanced story, so here it is.

July 9, 2001 in Gdansk was a pretty nice day, at least it started that way and lasted until noon. Dark clouds rolled in around midday, being the first signs of another violent summer storm. When the first drops of rain fell, no one suspected that twice as much water would pour over the city during this one afternoon than during the entire typical July. Each square meter of ground received almost 130 liters of water, and 90 liters have poured from the sky only between 3 and 5 p.m. Because the city is not only the seacoast, but also moraine hills, the streets lying along the slopes of the bottom moraine turned into the riverbeds of the streams flowing down. And down below, mainly to the south of town, a lake began to form at the flat land.

The small Radunia river flowing in from Cassubia from the south interrupted the canal in several places and flooded the southern part of the town, mainly the districts from Orunia (Lower), through Lipce to St. Adalbert. The flood also affected the embankments of the railway, damaging the mainline tracks in several places. Gdańsk Główny main passenger station tracks were all under the water. Railway traffic between Pruszcz Gdański (or actually rather Tczew) and Gdańsk stopped for a few days.

However, since we are talking about the times when the railway was one, great and indivisible (although divided into sectors), a solution was quickly found - all long-distance passenger trains were diverted to detour routes. And so the trains from Gdynia to Bydgoszcz traveled along the old Coal Trunk Line via Kościerzyna and Wierzchucin and further to Łódź or Katowice. Trains towards Malbork and further Olsztyn or Warsaw went via Kościerzyna, Bąk, Czersk and then by the old "Ostbahn" line to Tczew, where they met back the usual routes. Of course, diesel traction was necessary to provide all diverted traffic, while the electric locomotives pulling trains weren't detached (with a few exceptions), but were hauled with "their" trains.

From the traveler's point of view, these detours weren't reasonable - today a bus communication from Tczew to Gdynia would probably be the best solution, what would extend the journey by perhaps an hour in total. At that time however, due to the detours, the trains experienced delays of 3-5 hours, and degradation some stations to passenger stops on old one-track line surely worsened the capacity of the diversion. On the other hand, a passenger in a couchette, sleeping since the beginning of its journey from the outskirts of the country, reached the destination in the same bed, only 3-6 hours later.

The emergency situation lasted a few days, after which traffic on the main line was partially restored, with some restrictions (speed limit in places where the embankment was washed away). A few days after the traffic was restored, yet some freight trains ran on a non-electrified detour due to capacity problems at mainline.

Here SU46-045 with the hotel night train no. 35701 "Tetmajer" from Zakopane to Gdynia Główna, that has left Gdańsk Osowa station and now is heading towards Gdynia Wielki Kack.

After the leading loco, now the "cold" EU07-215 is transfered, which originally pulled this train to Bydgoszcz. The one before the last wagon is so-called auto-couchette, because this train offered the transport of cars between Zakopane and Gdynia. And finally the last one - an orange post-wagon. Besides, the core part of the train consisted only of sleepers and couchettes, as in a hotel. July 11, 2001.

Enid Hinkes provides another report in memory of Weequahic’s fallen war heroes.

In major catastrophes at sea, two Weequahic students were killed enroute to their assignments. They were both awarded Purple Hearts as their deaths were the result of enemy action. Arthur Kucharski, who, according to the 1940 census lived at 168 Goodwin Avenue completed one year of high school (1938 0r 39) before entering the workforce.

Pictured here, Martin Pedinoff’s (1/41) Legend entry read “A feeling of much, a feeling of ease, Makes position secure, on life’s trapeze;

Orchestra, Ping Pong, Printing Workshop, German Club, College Prep, F & M.” He resided at 223 Schuyler Avenue.

Two Weequahic students were killed en route to their assignments in major catastrophes at sea. They were both awarded Purple Hearts as their deaths were the result of enemy action.

MARTIN PEDINOFF

From the Legend, January 1941:

223 Schuyler Avenue

“A feeling of much, a feeling of ease, Makes position secure, on life’s trapeze; Orchestra, Ping Pong, Printing Workshop, German Club, College Prep, F & M”

He was born on January 3, 1923. His parents were Louis and Ida Pedinoff. His father was a photographer. He had three brothers – David, Phillip and Seymour. His nephew and namesake, Martin Pedinoff is married to Ellen Wiener. (Weequahic June 1965)

Martin was a Corporal, USAAF 32nd Photographic Squadron, Reconnaissance Group.

On April 20, 1944, Pedinoff was a passenger on SS Paul Hamilton which was in a convoy enroute to Italy. The ship had a cargo of explosives and bombs as well as military personnel. The convoy was attacked in the Mediterranean Sea 30 miles off the coast of Cape Bengrit, near Algiers by 23 German bombers. The SS Paul Hamilton was struck and the ship and crew disappeared in 30 seconds, losing 580 lives. He and the other victims are memorialized at North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial, Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia, Tablets of the Missing.

ALBERT KUCHARSKI

Kucharski was born in 1921 in Ohio. – November 27, 1943, declared dead while missing..

The1940 census showed that he lived at 168 Goodwin Avenue with his father Joseph, mother Celia, older sisters Irene and Virginia, and younger brother Francis. He completed 1st year of high school and was employed in the manufacture of electrical machinery and accessories according to his enlistment record.

Albert was a Staff Sergeant with the 31st Signal Corps, Construction Battalion. He was on the troopship Rohna that left Oran, French Algeria in a convoy of 24 ships carrying troops and supplies on the way to the China-Burma-India theater. On November 26, 1943, off Bejaia, Algeria, the convoy was attacked by an estimated 30 German Luftwaffe Heinkel 177’s. One of the 177’s released a radio-controlled glide missile that hit the Rohna on her port side and she eventually sunk.

Three ships stayed behind to pick up the survivors, but it was dark, the water was cold, and the waves were high and rough. There was oil on the water and fire from the explosion. There were only 22 lifeboats, most of them nonfunctioning. They were able to rescue 986 men, but 1038 were killed, including 1015 US military personnel. It was the largest loss of US troops at sea due to enemy action in a single incident. The bodies of most of the men who died were never recovered. Albert was declared “Missing in Action” on November 27, 1943.

Because of the severity of the loss and the new technology used to sink the Rohna, the disaster was covered up, unacknowledged and remained classified for decades. The survivors were ordered not to discuss the attack under penalty of court martial. The full story was finally released in 1967.

Albert was memorialized at the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial, Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia, Tablets of the missing.

“Greetings, Empress. As I am sure you are aware, I have contacted you early. This is not to provide our monthly report but to call your attention to negligence on your part of our deal.”

“Negligence? I have provided your kind with the living sacrifice you demand, without fail, every month. What sort of negligence is that?”

“You have failed to provide them in the measures specified by the agreement! Our...contract, as you call it, specified that once a month, you would transport two humans, male and female, to the vicinity of our colony. We asked that you confirm some sort of emotional attachment between the two of them and ensure that they possess no advanced technology when they are taken here. This last batch you sent was good. Not only did they meet the requirements, but they were both in good health and the attachment was very strong...

However, somehow you failed to prevent your guards from also transporting another batch, this one not completely human, and armed with all sorts of advanced weaponry.”

“And you can't handle them? I seem to have overestimated your capabilities.”

“No, I am taking measures to control the results of your shortcoming, but it is the principle that matters. I will “let it fly” this time, but if you do not exercise more caution in the future I will not see it as inappropriate to withhold some of the technology my part of the deal specified I give you. We have given you the components only to enable the merest spawn's play...you have no advantage over us.”

“Wait! I thoug-”

“Thank you, Empress. That will be all.”

“I hate having to exaggerate simply to confound that stupid she-human. What progress has the batch made?”

“Your greatness, the he-human has found the she-human. She was unconscious but with the help of-”

“That detestable Union spy! How I wish she was here now...

The advanced technology she possesses is of no considerable import; it is the fact that she knows what we are and can sense us as well that makes her such a danger. It is fortuitous indeed that the he-human is so malleable. Your manipulation of him has suppressed the spy's physical influence and prevented her from telling the he-human of us most effectively. But I have not forgotten your previous failure...”

“I apologize profusely, O Queen. I-”

“Enough. I do not hold you responsible for the Humans' idiotic leader dropping her and her partner here, Commander, but why, exactly, were they allowed to discover our presence here? You know as well as I do that had she never seen that renegade replacer, she would never have exerted such energy to detect us since then. Our mental shielding would have barely held up, but it would have. She would have been as ignorant as the she-human is now...which is why our next move is to isolate her from the others.”

“I patiently await your command, O Queen.”

“Do you not know what to do? Have you not done it before?

Ah, but I see. This is indeed a unique occasion...two batches at once, two subjects with considerable knowledge of us, and advanced weaponry as well...

I am Queen, the only of all the castes with imagination...

Very well, listen carefully:

The he-spy is already under control. You have done well in destroying his gate-making device and confiscating his weapon; he will be stranded in hyperspace until we desire his release.

The she-spy is another matter. Despite your aforementioned successes, the only thing that separates the good batch from knowledge of us is a very thin piece of fabric...not ideal. She will have to be removed immediately, along with the he-human. Even he knows too much about us. You know, of course, that all the previous batches were wholly ignorant of us throughout their duration in our domain.

By the way, I am pleased with how you carried out my previous command to give the he-human a false image of our presence...his impression of us is of unnatural, nonsentient shapeshifters that simply replicate whatever dreams or thoughts they sense. When you remove him and the she-spy, see if-”

“Your Greatness, forgive me for interrupting, but the he-human has just killed the officer tasked with guarding the cave...the one disguised as a native invertebrate. Shall we incorporate this?”

“Yes, quickly! Place in the she-human a desire to get away from the officer as soon as possible. Make sure, at least, she turns her back. Then place a vacuum field around the officer, he-human, and she-spy to prevent her from hearing the officer unshield in death. As this happens, completely unshield the hive walls around the he-human and she-spy so they see our true structure. The he-human will realize it was us all along, and it will hopefully invoke some terror in him. A delicious but unhealthy emotion-a shame we cannot subsist upon it alone.”

“It has been done, O Queen.”

“Good. Now generate some upshoots to take the he-human and she-spy to to the holding caverns. Make sure you disarm the he-human. And if possible, try to loosen the bonds on the she-spy so she can remove her gag and finally deliver her message to the he-human...I do enjoy irony.”

“Is there anything else?”

“Hold on...why does the she-human have the bag? Aarrgh! The he-human gave it to her before we took him...no matter. Send in the two replacers as planned. Make sure both have analyzed the mannerisms of the two we have taken so they can best emulate them...we will feast well on the she-human's “love” for her friend.”

“It has all been done! It is all as you have said. Your plans are ever flawless, O Queen.”

A nice autummy shot to provide abit of a change from the cold weather were having. One from Birchen Bank Wood, near Woodhead in the Peak District on a sunny afternoon last October. I hadn't done anything with this at the time as its a series of portrait images, about 8 or 9, blended together to make the panoramic and I was never happy with how it looked. But, flicking through my files I saw it again and decided to make an effort to finish it ... hopefully it looks okay.

I love little streams like this, probably more than big waterfalls as you always find something interesting with how the water flows over the rocks making its own patterns. And the bonus is, it changes pretty much every time you visit when the rocks have been moved by the fast moving water :)

Thanks for looking and commenting on my shots everyone :)

Nikon D5000 & Sigma 10-20 @ 10mm, 4secs, F16 and no doubt some fitlers, but since its about 6 months ago I can't remember what haha! :)

Mr. Kelly and staff provide a display of motor cars outside the premises on Catherine Street, Waterford. Can we take it that Mr. Kelly is the distinguished gentleman in the centre with bowler hat and top coat? The man second from the right looks like the doppelganger of Simon Harris, Irish Minister for Health! I wonder if the dealership is still around?

With thanks to input from several Flickroonies today (including Niall McAuley, sharon.corbet, B-59, BeachcomberAustralia and others) we were reminded that we've visited Kelly's dealership before, that it is the "purpose-built motor garage in Ireland", is still a motor dealers, though the Kelly's themselves (still in the trade) operate from a premesis outside the city proper....

Though Palo Duro Canyon did provide water and shelter to native Americans for eons and the ranchers that followed, it is still a harsh environment. Much of the vegetation and wildlife is well-adapted to the extremes of the microclimate within the canyon and often has its own variety of self defense, from thorns and needles to bites and venom. Summers can be extremely hot within the canyon (the record high was 120F/49C) and winters quite cold with subzero temperatures. It was 78F/26C the day I visited and it was still February (2-25-2025). It is generally a dry heat (low humidity) but I have been in Amarillo and the surrounding Panhandle region many times when moist Gulf air can bring in sticky air. There've been many heat-related illnesses and even deaths within the canyon for those not prepared.

Erosion in the form of the Prairie Dog Fork of the Red River created the canyon, exposing many geological layers over millions of years. These boulders are also eroding but at a far slower pace than the surroundings (similar to the badlands I frequent in the Dakotas and eastern Montana). Circumstances beyond my control forced my trip to be made a wee bit earlier in the year than what I would have preferred, for I have a feeling Palo Duro Canyon must be beautiful when the fresh spring greens begin. Midday light is NOT when I would recommend shooting, of course (one works with what they have when one must), but if one wants to shoot the golden hours here, keep in mind that the canyon rim is roughly 800 feet above the canyon floor in many places. Palo Duro IS quite wide in many places, though, helping to mitigate such light angles, I'm sure.

As was described in the previously posted Aji Tataki photo, the Japanese word "tataki" means "to chop".

The Maguro in this dish is actually sliced, not chopped. However, the term "tataki" also refers to the style of preparation, in terms of the sauce (ponzu) and garnish, like momiji oroshi (daikon radish with chili pepper) and negi (spring onions) served with the dish.

The maguro pictured here has been lightly seared. It's set upon a bed of shredded daikon radish and raw onions. The fore mentioned ponzu sauce is used to baste the dish prior to serving.

Finally, it's garnished with tobiko (flying fish eggs) and sesame seeds.

First-time sushi eaters tend to love this dish.

What is beauty? We could spend years trying to provide and objective and universal definition and will keep on failing because beauty is subjective. The standards of beauty vary from age to age, culture to culture and person to person. We talk about physical (exterior) beauty and inner beauty when referring to a person, but we must be aware that what is beautiful for some might not be for others. Granted that there are some standards from which we can try to measure beauty, we will never be able to find universal beauty in our material world.

In the online communities that we have built in all social networks, “beautiful” is an adjective that is commonly used and those who are considered beautiful take pride while those who think they are not are always pointing that out to others with some kind of shame. Does it really matter if I am beautiful or not? If it does matter, by which standards should we measure it?

As men trying to present as women, we are not pleased to look like a woman and pass for a woman. We want to look like and pass for, a beautiful woman! Once again, talking as a heterosexual CD, what is what I need? Do I need to wear women’s clothes, play the role of a woman and be perceived as one or is it all about being beautiful as a woman? As I have matured in my life and having cross-dressed since I have memory, beauty is not how I look but how I feel when I am Cristy. Beauty is enjoying the few opportunities I get to be her and even more beautiful if I can go places. As my dear friend, Nora Simone, pointed out to me recently, beauty is giving and caring about others and making others feel good about themselves.

Over the years I have gotten countless comments, on my photos, mentioning that I am beautiful or saying something like “I wish I looked as beautiful as you”. Even though I welcome such comments, the ones that I treasure the most are those who let me know if have been inspiring or helpful while sharing my feminine side and thoughts with likeminded people. I’d rather inspire with words and advice than with looks, sense of fashion or tricks of the trade. I’d rather motivate people to find beauty inside of them because when they do it will automatically reflect on the outside. Beauty comes from inner peace and when we are happy and at ease, we are the most beautiful we can be.

What I am trying to say is that we must put all our effort in feeling beautiful for ourselves and not looking beautiful to others. Stop worrying about what the other girls will say and focus on how you feel. If you ask me, I would rather be perceived as a very average looking woman who is happy in her own skin than as a gorgeous woman who is wearing so much padding, constraints and makeup that make me feel so uncomfortable that it reflects in my carefully made up face.

I never felt more liberated than when I decided to tone down my makeup and wear loose A-line dresses that do not require me to put on corsets or padding. At the same time, I never felt more naturally feminine! Maybe I do not look beautiful, but I certainly feel beautiful.

Do you dress to feel beautiful or to be beautiful?

¿Importará realmente si soy bella o no?
