A male Red-winged Blackbird calls and sings, defending his territory and letting everyone know he won't allow them to mess with his mate and her nest.

Truly a wonderful experience watching an Eagle family. The chicks are just two weeks old born 3 days apart. Both are eating well as you can see there are meals lined up around the edge of the nest. The male was bringing fish at regular intervals. I have tons more photos to go through, I will be posting a lot more of this family.

This canada goose was protecting her two goslings from a hawk that had tried twice to take one of her babies! The first time the hawk tried a bunch of black birds came to help by attacking the hawk. The second time, the goose took her goslings and came closer to me. I had to smile at the thought that she felt I would protect her and the goslings! There was no father goose around and I wonder if the reason she only had two goslings was because of the hawk!

Storing it on a porch behind bars... it ought to protect it from some weathering. It still managed a nice patina with a touch of history with the faded lettering (Ridley)

The bud shoots of Pink-Flowered Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis 'Rosea') look like little soldiers marching through the gardens. They're unique among other shoots in the gardens with their leaves wrapped protectively around them as they grow. If you look at this in the larger view you can see the details of the leaves.

The mountain lake south of Dobbiaco, which is irrigated and drained by the Rienza, was formed a long time ago by rockfalls and is today one of the few sewage fields (wetlands) that still exist in the Alps. Five bunkers were built around it, with which Mussolini wanted to protect the access roads to Italy in 1939: The buildings belong to the so-called Alpine Wall in South Tyrol, a protective wall from the time of the 2nd World War. Today, the Lake Dobbiaco nature trail winds its way around the 4.5 km shoreline of the lake. In a leisurely two-hour hike, it leads past various information boards that provide information about the flora and fauna: The body of water is located between the Three Peaks Nature Park and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park.

I was a bit confused if i should load the color shot or the B&W. Maybe will load the color one another time :)

In life we always have this path ahead of us surrounded by danger. Nature's force somehow has this protective railing in each of our paths to protect us from falling depending on the choices we make. If we take the right path, we may just end up alright with beautiful memories. Have a good day all!

He wasn't happy with my being in the garden hoping to catch the cubs playing and barked at me until I went inside. This was taken from inside my house and I still felt guilty..

Escape from Lockdown.

I ventured out for the first time in months in search of the owls. Whilst the owls were nowhere to be seen, there was plenty of other wildlife to entertain me.

This curlew (presumably mum) didn't make the usual bolt into the distance. I soon found out the reason as she was protecting her young chicks. Sadly no pics of the chicks as I was unable to get a pic from the car.

Nice to hear my first cuckoos of the year as well. All in all a nice night out despite the lack of owls.

This Assyrian relief comes from the royal palace in Nimrud and is made of alabaster. The area in the middle of the piece looks like it is damaged, from this distance, but it is actually an area covered writing (in cuneiform) about the king Ashurnasirpal II, reigning 883-859 BC. He built Nimrud as a new capital of the Assyrian kingdom (in Assyrian called Kalḫu).

Now on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

A mother elk stands watch over her precious little one. She is also standing between her calf and the raging Big Thompson River in the background as snowmelt had swollen the river to bank full.

We are headed back up to the Park in a few weeks for the elk rut and fall colors - should be amazing!

More stuff from the archives...we are hoping to have workable weather by the end of the week. It has been good to go through all my stuff at the end of the year and glean photos worth saving. The bird facing away is a Wurdemann's Heron which is out of its range and breeding with the local GBH population.

The slightest movement from Marts' headtorch can cause such immense friction that the air literally catches fire. Luckily for him, he wore his flameproof spectral suit.

S/he came right up to where I was taking the photos of the chick on Friday. I am glad there was a fence between us, they can inflict some pain with their wing spurs.

It was raining this evening so we've bring out this cute pair in the covered arena for them to move their legs a little. Look like that little filly have galloped too much and fell down in the sand, her mama came straight to her to comfort, what a protective mare.
