La Cattedrale Vegetale - Vegetable Cathedral

The sand dune systems protect the land from the sea, stabilizing the environment and allowing the tussocks and hardy bushes to grow in this harsh environment. But beyond the dune system and small cliffs is the beautiful, clean restless southern ocean. Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island. www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/assets/general-downloads/Sustain...

Apparently you are protected from dogs when you place yourself inside this ring..according to Sunny. We are sad today, we had to euthanize a feral cat at the ranch named Edgar, he ulcerated his eye in a fight and it was so badly infected there was nothing the vet could do for him. Please spay and neuter your pets that run loose, this could have been avoided.

It you would like to donate to his memorial fund to help offset cost to keep the other neighborhood feral cats healthy, and get the new ones spayed/neutered please visit:

Trumpeter Swans Protecting their cygnet. I had to stumble down a pretty steep rocky embankment. This put the parents on high alert. I realized after getting into position that they were actually paddling towards me. At that same time I realized that there was no easy or quick way to get away if they decided to attack. So I sat very still hoping they would determine that I wasn't a threat. This image was taken as they decided that I wasn't going to be a problem, so they swam away. Whew!

The Prothonotary Warbler is one of a kind in the Northeastern US, and it is so for a number of reasons. First of all, it is the only warbler in this area that nests in tree holes or nest boxes. The Lucy’s warbler also does so, but they are not found in the Northeastern US. The Prothonotary is a brilliant tangerine yellow, with a larger bill and head than most warblers. Found only in swamplands and near slow moving rivers and streams, these jewels of the avian world are declining in number due to habitat loss. Without continued protection of our wetlands from development, one of a kind could easily become none of a kind! #ProthonotaryWarblers

Older elephants surrounding the young one at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka.

The hills were steep and the mountain had plenty of avalanche protection fencing - just look for the white posts up high.

Iceland also was home to quite a large number of electric cars even though they are not too sure of how long the battery will last in cold conditions. There also seemed to be quite a few charging points even in the small villages like this - Siglufjörður.

Just a few more Iceland photos, then I'll move on to the Sheltalnd Islands leg of my trip.

I'm not sure what this is but I love the shapes and that it is protecting itself.

Appropriately this was seen along the path of the Madagascar Spiny Forest at the los Angeles County Arboretum - spiny indeed ! I believe this is the Madagascar Ocotillo plant.

la protection de ces petites boules jaunes est tres efficace. je ne connais malheureusement pas le nom de cette plante.

the protection of these little yellow balls is very effective. I unfortunately do not know the name of this plant.

I think this beautiful garden spider was protecting its nest from a wasp trying to steal her eggs.

Another early AM shooting session, experimenting with Arista Ultra 100 shot at box speed. Fairly wide light capture here with somewhat harsh shadows and cloudless sky. This combination doesn't quite pull out the details in the shadows as much as I'd like, despite some very favorable comments about this film with D76. Will likely go back to Xtol in the next round.
