Protecting innocence~ They arrive to this earth relying on our coded ability to host them as they take human form. They are born tiny and helpless and it is up to us to support, care for and nurture them till they can care for themselves. They carry in them the promise and possibility of a better tomorrow. They are our most valuable assets. [ 28 more words ]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulphur_Mountain_(Alberta)

ELEVATION 2281 m 7486 ft

Sulphur Mountain (Nakoda: Mînî Rhuwîn) is a mountain in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains overlooking the town of Banff, Alberta, Canada.

The mountain was named in 1916 for the hot springs on its lower slopes. George Dawson had referred to this landform as Terrace Mountain on his 1886 map of the area. Sanson's Peak was named in 1948 for Norman Bethune Sanson who diligently attended the observatory recording equipment atop Sulphur Mountain for nearly 30 years.

Two hot springs have been commercially developed. The lowest is the Cave and Basin National Historic Site and the highest is the Banff Upper Hot Springs.

A gondola on the eastern slope goes to the summit ridge which has an upper terminal containing three restaurants, a gift shop, and multiple observation decks. The summit ridge provides views both westward up and east down the Bow Valley. A boardwalk can be followed on the north side to the top of Sanson's Peak (2,256 m or 7,402 ft).

The original, and more scenic, summit access is along an old fire road (Sanson Road) on the Southwest face of the mountain with a distance of 5.8 km from the Banff Sundance Canyon trail system near the Bow River. Another 5.4 km switchback trail route exists under the gondola with trailhead access from the Banff Hot Springs parking lot near the gondola terminal.

The mountain has been the site of two research facilities. In 1903, a meteorological observatory building was completed atop Sanson Peak. This building still exists and visitors can look through a window to see its interior complete with rustic furnishings. In the winter of 1956-57, the National Research Council built a small laboratory on Sanson's Peak in order to study cosmic rays as part of Canada's contribution to the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station remained in operation until 1978 and the building was removed in 1981. A plaque now marks the site's location.

The hot springs at the base of Sulphur Mountain are home to the endangered Banff Springs snail and the now-extinct Banff longnose dace.

Ants and aphids have a symbiotic relationship whereby the the ants protect the aphids in exchange for honeydew which the aphids secrete as waste.

Château Les Bernardières (or des Bernardières) was built in the 12th century, overlooking a trade route that ran along the Nizonne valley.

It was fortified on a defensive level in the 14th century, during the Hundred Years War, in order to protect itself from the English who claimed Aquitaine.

It was here, in 1377, that Bertrand du Guesclin defeated the English troops.

In the 16th century, Antoine d'Authon, lord of Bernardières, after having sold his castle,

armed a ship in 1518. First privateer, he finished in 1546 as pasha of Algiers and admiral of the Ottoman fleet under the name of Barbarossa II.

Rebuilt in the 17th century, the Château Les Bernardières gradually evolved into a Renaissance-style residence.

If you get to spend a bit of time in the high altitude Himalayas you soon start to appreciate the old Nepalese pilots adage that “we don't fly when there are clouds, because the clouds have rocks in them”. Peaking though the clouds here is the incredible spire of Ama Dablam at 6,812 metres (22,349 ft). Ama Dablam translates to "Mother's necklace" as the long ridges on each side are said to resemble the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. The Marin Highlands and especially its protected watershed areas around Mt Tam are delightful experiences, but be prepared for some steep terrain, and that's just the trails. In winter, during our typical non-drought rainy winters, the mosses and ferns provide a soft backdrop to the cascades tumbling down Cataract Canyon.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and fave my photo.

What started off as a joint project with Transnistrian military firm SniB to produce a well-protected 3rd-Generation Main Battle Tank eventually split in two directions. The Chenchnan-made turret was too large for the Transnistrian chassis and accommodatory railroad transportation (particularly, many bridges and tunnels), and the Transnistrian project eventually became the SniB-90 series. The turret sat in a warehouse for nearly a year before a new military ordnance request dug it out. A new, domestic chassis was fitted with great assistance from the Sangheili officers and engineers from the crashed ship "Liturgy of the Sacrament". Whist an absolutely massive vehicle, the extremely durable polymer armor and incredible speeds from the repulsor-based propulsion system gave it an uncharacteristic speed and power. Floating a foot above ground, the Maschith can glide above rough terrain with ease. However, it is not without its issues. A plasma-based fuel system eats fuel for breakfast and is highly volatile, and an interior designed with primarily Sangeili in mind does not suit human ergonomics especially well. However, testing has concluded it is not only an effective warmaking vehicle, but one whose presence on the battlefield should not be taken lightly.

Based off of the Type-26 Wraith, from the Halo franchise. Turret was a Black Eagle/Obj. 640 project I had been making with Ian, but the turret turned out too large for a realistically-scaled chassis. So now there's this.

Also, can this count as Mechtober?

I've forgotten the angle of this photo, but that's either Grand Teton or Teewinot hiding behind the mists here.
