Day 229/365:
Thanks to these dead roses (good job I keep things like this) and my iPhone, I'm still in the game.
I used the stage light in the portrait setting, quick simple composition that involved no difficult manoeuvres.
One day at a time.
Another one from Chester Cathedral. Quite the mixed bag of light sources to really mess with the colour balance but a happy result in the end.
This past weekend the girls took center stage as they competed in the Surfer Girl Pro annual competition at Oceanside. Perfect waves and weather for the event.
Established in 2007 as a showcase for women in action sports, the Super Girl Pro Series is the only large-scale all-women’s action sports, esports and lifestyle series in the world. It was hard to find something to scale her against, but this was a very large -- and fortunately friendly and curious -- female who came up to our jeep to check us out as we explored the northern Mara's Olare-Motorogi Conservancy. I'd say she was a body length away. To get her all in, I had to resort to the iPhone at its widest angle. My bad back kept me from leaning out the window as far as I'd have liked to get the low angle she deserved, but under the harsh midday light I still had a wonderful opportunity to capture the texture of the dried and cracked mud that covered her. (We were near the Talek River, where she'd likely got her skin-protective coating.) Every lens has its potential and its limitations. This is particularly true for the Samyang telephoto (mirror) lens with a range that is on my Fuji X-Pro1 the equivalent of 450 mm. Like every very long lens, this one does compress the perspective and shows quite nicely that my village, Markyate, is situated in a valley and is surrounded by hills. This is the region of the Chilterns, a limestone plateau into which rivers have cut their beds. The village lies along the bed of the River Ver and we are looking from one side of the valley to the other. The problem with this lens is that when set to infinity, its resolution power is weak (as you can see). And that is why I prefer to use this lens for "close-ups", anything away by two to twenty meters. And for that purpose the lens is just fine.

"Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become an iconic symbol of London. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. Before its restoration in the 2010s, the bridge's colour scheme dated from 1977, when it was painted red, white and blue for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. Its colours were subsequently restored to blue and white.
The bridge deck is freely accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians, whereas the bridge's twin towers, high-level walkways and Victorian engine rooms form part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition, for which an admission charge is made. [...]"

The Carina Nebula and Running Chicken Nebula from my Adelaide metro (Bortle 6) backyard. This is a combination of 13 stacked shots with a Optolong L-Pro filter and 1 shot with an Astronomik 12nm Ha filter as a luminance layer. Lots of issues, no lens collar meant I was getting trailing from differential flexure despite autoguiding. The light pollution meant even with the filter the blue channel was maxing out way too early. Horrible gradients over the frame (this is a crop). After huge amounts of adjustment the star colours are somewhat red. I will try the L-Pro again with a longer focal length (see if that stops the gradients) and will see if it helps when used without light pollution. Otherwise I am doing something very wrong here!
