This past weekend the girls took center stage as they competed in the Surfer Girl Pro annual competition at Oceanside. Perfect waves and weather for the event.
Established in 2007 as a showcase for women in action sports, the Super Girl Pro Series is the only large-scale all-women’s action sports, esports and lifestyle series in the world. It was hard to find something to scale her against, but this was a very large -- and fortunately friendly and curious -- female who came up to our jeep to check us out as we explored the northern Mara's Olare-Motorogi Conservancy. I'd say she was a body length away. To get her all in, I had to resort to the iPhone at its widest angle. My bad back kept me from leaning out the window as far as I'd have liked to get the low angle she deserved, but under the harsh midday light I still had a wonderful opportunity to capture the texture of the dried and cracked mud that covered her. (We were near the Talek River, where she'd likely got her skin-protective coating.) Every lens has its potential and its limitations. This is particularly true for the Samyang telephoto (mirror) lens with a range that is on my Fuji X-Pro1 the equivalent of 450 mm. Like every very long lens, this one does compress the perspective and shows quite nicely that my village, Markyate, is situated in a valley and is surrounded by hills. This is the region of the Chilterns, a limestone plateau into which rivers have cut their beds. The village lies along the bed of the River Ver and we are looking from one side of the valley to the other. The problem with this lens is that when set to infinity, its resolution power is weak (as you can see). And that is why I prefer to use this lens for "close-ups", anything away by two to twenty meters. And for that purpose the lens is just fine.
Längst vorbei! "Mit der DB wird alles besser!". Wie in Gottes Namen soll das funktionieren, wenn man 2024 noch einen Verkehr planmäßig mit längst Ausmusterungs bedürftigen Loks bespannt? Man sieht es ja. Es funktioniert gar nicht! Vor ein paar Jahren, als "DieLänderbahn" noch für den RE 2 zuständig war, hat man sich zumindest sicher sein können, dass der Zug irgendwann kommt und man früher oder später am Ziel landet. Mit den 218er als Zugloks, ist das ganz und gar nicht der Fall. Heut zu Tage muss man froh sein, wenn der Zug überhaupt kommt und nicht während der Fahrt liegen geblieben ist oder die Lok erst gar nicht angesprungen ist. Eine Katastrophe sonders gleichen. Ich verstehe bis heute nicht, was sich die "Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft" dabei gedacht hat. Offenbar aber nicht viel. Nun Läuft der Verkehr schon über zwei Jahre und ich würde behaupten, es gab noch keine einzige Woche, in welcher der Verkehr komplett planmäßig gelaufen ist! Ein Armutszeugnis...
Im Winter 2022 war die Welt noch in Ordnung. Ab Schwandorf verkehrten der Zugteil aus Hof und der Zugteil aus Prag zusammen nach München. So konnte man alle zwei Stunden einen Alex pro Richtung bestaunen. Mit den deutlich moderneren Eurorunner-Zugmaschinen kam der Verkehr auch deutlich besser in die Gänge und so rauschte Mitte Dezember dieser ALX 79864 durch Maxhütte und zog eine große Schneewolke hinter sich her. Die Zugnummer existiert auch heute noch und ist damit ein letztes Überbleibsel der einst so goldenen Zeiten, welche ich mir sehnlichst zurück wünsche.
