This morning I was privileged to see this spoonbill at close quarters! A pair have nested at abberton for the past 2 years, and although I have seen them, never this close. It was flying from the nest to the dam wall to collect nesting material. I keep my distance as not to disturb it, but it just walked along past me as if I wasn’t there! Back to have another look tomorrow! Abberton reservoir.
Two days in a row, I was privileged to see an Indigo Bunting. The second has less colour, maybe a bit less mature.
Castle of Venus
It is located on the top of Mount Erice, in an absolutely privileged position.
In ancient times, Erice was known for its temple, the sacred thémenos, where the Phoenicians adored Astarte, the Greeks Aphrodite and the Romans Venus.
Mount Eryx served as a reference point for navigators of whom Venus soon became the protector.
At night, a large fire lit in the sacred area served as a lighthouse. The fame of Venus Ericina became such that a temple was also dedicated to her in Rome and her cult spread throughout the Mediterranean.
What remains today of the ancient fortress was the work of the Normans who seem to have reused, for its construction, the material coming from the reconstruction of the pagan temple.
In ancient times, the castle was enclosed by towers, advanced fortification works connected to each other by two crenellated curtains and above all by a drawbridge.

… coffee al fresco, reading while taking in some rays, traffic on the road, not a mask in sight: privileged life almost as usual in Hampstead. One could almost forget about the pandemic for a moment…
After having had their lunch, one lion and one lioness stand in guard while the rest of the pride rests on the shade, unseen. From the top of the boulder the “guards” are on a privileged position to defend their territory and to identify potential “candidates” for a joyful dinnertime. They certainly seemed to be resting and enjoying life!
Lions (“Panthera leo”) sleep for 16 to 20 hours a day. They most often hunt at dawn or dusk, but can adapt to their prey to change their schedule.
The lion is the most social of all wild felid species and a lion pride consists on average of 15 lions, comprising a few adult males, related females and cubs. Females form the stable social unit in a pride and do not tolerate outside females. Membership changes only with the births and deaths of lionesses.

I am beyond grateful for the loving, kind and generous hearts of these beautiful women I am privileged to know and call friend & sisters of the heart💕
It was a beautiful day and the herons were engaged in their courting ritual. They are so beautiful in the spring with their gorgeous plumage and colorful eye and to be able to capture some of the intimate moments was a great thrill for me. Nature is just awesome and I am so glad to be privileged to see some of these special moments !
Wishing you aw awesome and blessed day !!!!!!!!

Happy little Sea Otter.
On a whale watching adventure tour boat...Oh, my!
There were literally dozens of these beautiful little guys just hanging around in the kelp forests, here. Most of them didn’t even wake up when our boat got close. So privileged to see this. They were almost extirpated in this whole area but were reintroduced in he 1960s.
This was lovely!

Castillo Sohail
Sohail Castle
Sohail castle is located in he heart of Fuengirola river mouth, on a small isolated hill that rises 38 meters above sea level. This circumstance makes it a privileged viewpoint of a wide coastal strip surrounded by the Sierra de Mijas and included in the present day town of Fuengirola.
The magnificent geographical conditions of this place have allowed, since ancient times , the continueous settling of Punic and Roman population. On the ruins of their settlements in the Caliphate period a first tower was built, perhaps a watchtower.
Later, in the twelfth centry, the Almovarids built a defensive enclosure against the Christian army, that was in full offensive against the Moorish kingdom of Granada.
From that moment the military fortress underwent an inevitable process of readjustment of its architecture that would gradually give way to its present appearance: replacing the turning entrance by a direct one, demolishing one of the east towers to built up a platform for the placement of guns, or rearranging the southwest corner of the wall to turn it into an archer's wall after its blasting by the Napoleonic army during the war of independence.
A few years later the castle lost its military function and was sold at public auction. The transition to civil use took it a period of abandonment that would not be interrupted onto the second half of the last century.
The works carried out in recent years by the school workshop have enabled the Sohail Castle to be recovered as a historical meeting point for the people of Fuengirola and as a space where different cultural events are currently held.

The castle of Frías, officially the castle of the Dukes of Frías and also called the Velasco castle, is located in the town of Frías in the north of the province of Burgos in Castilla y León (Spain).
It is located on the rock of La Muela, around which the urban framework of the city of Frías develops. From its privileged location, it controls the Tobalina valley and the Ebro river pass through the bridge, also fortified, which is located at its feet. This is one of the main routes that have historically linked the Castilian plateau with the Cantabrian coast.
It is considered one of the most spectacular rock castles in Castilla. The current complex is made up of a mixture of buildings from the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th centuries.
Built in well-preserved masonry and with the interior exempt from auxiliary constructions, it is dedicated to tourist uses and for the realization of recreational and sporting events. The castle together with the church of San Vicente crown the urban framework that surrounds the hill of La Muela and are referential vertices of the silhouette of the city.

Whenever I am privileged to see a grizzly bear in the wild I am estactic. Such was the case on this day. Photo is not as pristine as I would like it to be as we were so far away but it was a joy to see her. Ranger said it is Grizzly #793 for those of you who follow the Teton bears.
THANKS, just wanted to share
It was so awesome for me to see the golden hooded tanager Dad busy sharing in the feeding of his chick . Not all Dad;s take part in this such as the hummingbirds. The mother does it all. The interaction between chick and parent is a moment that I find so special and I always feel privileged to have had the opportunity to see this part of nature !!
Wishing a great new week and a very blessed one too !!
Those who can grow up here on the beach are truly privileged. The children here live and play on the beach among colourful fishing boats from sunrise to sunset, while the parents and aunts squat on the edge of the forest and talk together. Watched this morning in the rising sun.

The Marô is a wetland which extends over two departments, Vendée and Loire-Atlantique, 18 municipalities and more than 36,000 hectares. A rich natural and traditional heritage to discover in the Marô. Observe the wild fauna and flora of the Vendée. The marsh is a privileged observation ground for lovers of fauna and flora. In spring, it is an intense place of nesting. And in the fall, brant geese, oystercatchers, white egrets, elegant avocets take up residence in the Bay of Bourgneuf. Oysters and salt in the heart of Marô. The salt marshes fascinate as much by their implacable geometry as by their harvest! Between the 11th and 13th centuries, the first saltworks were dug at the instigation of the Benedictine monks. Even today, this tradition continues. Beyond the canals and marshes, you must also go to the coast to appreciate the atmosphere of the fisheries and discover oyster farming.

Another foggy morning on the Annapolis River. I always feel privileged to be there when the light breaks through the morning mist.
Taken at smokey mountains National Park a while ago. This park is a photographers paradise with great landscape views and misty coves. I once again realise that I feel privileged to have visited these places while staying for a couple of years in Chicago. It is difficult not to make a fine shot of this scene :-). Hope you enjoy and have a nice day!
Having just watched the first of Chris Packham's excelllent series, "Dogs In The Wild" I was prompted to post another photo of the Maned Wolf which I felt so privileged to see and photograph in Piaui, North East Brazil in 2016.
Thank you all for your kind responses.
I was hoping to see a mother polar bear with cubs on my trip and I was privileged to have some amazing sightings of this beautiful family.

HAPPY WEEK
It was exactly three years ago that I was privileged to see this polar family. Mama bear had two cubs and she would do anything to protect her babies. Here she keeps them warm on a frigid cold day. I saw this family every day that I was there :-).
All three chicks sitting together before they fledged the nesting tree. I was privileged to watch the first chick fledge one evening :-)!
HAVE BEEN PRIVILEGED to stay on SKOMER island off the south of Wales, for the past few years, so this is a tribute to all my feathered friends, who will not be seeing me, as all visitors have been cancelled, which is very upsetting !!! THE MANX SHEARWATER is a summer visitor to the region, May to September, spends most of its life at sea and only visits land to breed, and then only after dark. Nests in underground burrows, so to see one in broad daylight, tells you there is something wrong, looked very healthy , maybe a black-backed gull was patrolling his nest sight, hope he made it back after dark.

"IT HAS BEEN SAID that faith may move mountains, but prayer moves God. Amazing, isn't it, that our prayers, whether grand and glorious or feeble and faint, can move the very heart of God who created the universe ? "
In 1821, when Lillesand became a privileged port, it had a population of only 300 and had nine shipyards. By 1895 the merchant fleet was 95 vessels strong. But the death of the sailing ship caused severe economic difficulties for Lillesand. Sailing ships had been inexpensive and could be built from local timber. Steamers were built of steel, were expensive and required more capital than locals could muster. Shipyards were closed. Many of the residents emigrated from there to the United States. Lillesand remained a fishing village, though even this area suffered when the herring left the coast.
I have been privileged to have a family of Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's hang around my house for a few days. South Australia.
One of the young White Tailed Eagles we were privileged to see in the Danube Delta. The light was awful and it has just started to rain as the Eagle gave us a close up view of its impressive wingspan perched on a tree stump at the edge of the water.
Many thanks to everyone that views and comments on my images - very much appreciated.

In approaching summer, which is finally about to arrive here in Croatia, I keep thinking about how thankful, privileged and blessed I am to have an old friend of mine who lives in this gem of the Adriatic coast... thereby my many stays and many sights seen each time with a new and fresh outlook ... :)
