I was surprised to find a grove of cypress trees in Price Creek, south of Chapel Hill's University Lake. Ubiquitous down east, they are much less common here in the Piedmont of NC.
Feb 2016: “A compact, c 1,000 sq ft Victorian chapel by the entrance to the former Our Lady’s Hospital, Cork is coming to market with a guide price for €250,000, via agent John O’Mahony of O’Mahony Walsh, Ballincollig”
Our Lady’s was wound down in the 1980s, and although Our Lady’s Hospital showed some interest it was sold with 50 acres in 1995 by the then-Southern Health Board for £910,000 to Dublin-based Lance Investments.
Some elements of the Our Lady’s complex have since been sold off, such as a number of apartments, town houses, mews houses and stables conversions and the old gate lodge by the Lee Road is now in commercial use, occupied by agriculture advisors the Brady Group.
My understanding is that there are two distinct sections to the main complex.
Our Lady's which was the Lee Road in Ireland. Locals are inclined to refer to the entire structure as St. Anne's and they and do not differentiate between the grey section, Our Lady's and the red section, St. Kevin's which is totally derelict.
A a section of Our Lady’s Hospital has been renovated as Lee Road.
Our Lady’s Hospital, formerly Eglinton Asylum [named after the Earl of Eglinton, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland], Cork was built to house 500 patients. It was the largest of seven district lunatic asylums commissioned by the Board of Public Works in the late 1840s to supplement the nine establishments erected by Johnston and Murray in 1820-35. Like the earlier buildings, the new institutions were ‘corridor asylums’, but with the emphasis on wards rather than cells. There was a change in style from Classical to Gothic.
Designed by local architect William Atkins, the Cork Asylum was one of the longest buildings in Ireland (almost 1000 feet), originally split into three blocks punctuated with towers and gables. Atkins made good use of polychromy, contrasting Glanmire sandstone with limestone dressings. The elevated site overlooking the River Lee, appears to have been chosen for dramatic effect rather than practicality, great difficulty being encountered in providing exercise yards on the steep slope.

“The pearl beyond price, the incomparable pearl, the personal aspect of Essence is central for many important reasons. It is actually the true essential personality. It is the person. It is experienced as oneself. When the individual finally perceives it, the contented expression often is "but this is me!" The sense is of oneself as a precious being. There is then a fullness, a completeness, and a contentment. It is as if the individual feels full and complete, realized. Nothing is lacking. No more search, no desire or wanting anything else. The person feels; now I have myself. I am a complete individual. I am full. I am fullness. I am complete. I want nothing else.” - A. Hameed Ali
****Temptation's Price****
The Angel he was, with intentions so pure,
His sole existence, a loved one's cure.
The Devil he was, with intentions so cruel,
His desires and charm, his only tool.
Through his eyes, a sensual object,
Through another, an angel so perfect.
One tried reaching to her skin so deep,
The other delighted her with sweet words to hear.
One would take advantage as soon as she sleeps,
The other would smile and carress her as she breathes.
Like the Angel and Devil, they truly were,
But who would win, who'll be worthy of her?
She carried herself with unbelievable grace,
A mind so pure, with a smile on her face.
Many would kill to hold her in their arms,
But the Angel and Devil rose with their charms.
One seduced her with jewels so pretty,
The other comforted her with innocent pity.
One revealed the taboo that lay ahead,
The other spoke of his heart instead.
The Devil, revealed his horns. The Angel his halo,
But somehow the correct path was a hard one to follow..
And to her companions, she eagerly presented,
Both the challengers for which her barriers have descended.
The Angel's purity was hard to believe,
And so he was judged as boring and naive.
The Devil marked his presence with a spell,
His occasional dark side was accepted well.
Companions:-
"Why not settle for The Devil instead,
When temptation's price was so easily held?"
The battle was so intense and long,
Nine months and she decided where to belong.
She chose the Devil, the Angel was in awe,
Where did he go wrong, where was the flaw?
"The purest of hearts will always bleed,
The tainted hearts they forever succeed." (7 Winters of Pain - Myros)
The Angel tried to deflect her affection,
Towards his arms that seeked her attention.
But the Devil's grasp was ever so tough,
She returned to him, never getting enough.
Days passed, and she trusted the devil more,
Allowing her senses and ecstacy to soar.
But the Angel was ignored, day and night,
For he was trying to set things right.
Months passed, the Angel's scar grew,
The pain was strong, because his emotions were true.
He confessed to her multiple times,
But she always managed to ignore his cries.
The Devil's charm was rather deep,
Haunting her to the dance of restful sleep.
Soon a day came when they were alone,
And that's when she realized something was wrong.
He touched her breasts, she screamed for him to stop,
But he just snickered, and pulled away her top.
He smiled in satisfaction, and grasped her hands,
Following desire, what his heart truly demands.
She cried, and cried, but no one came,
In desperation she cried out the Angel's name.
But he was too far away, to hear her call,
Soon, her screaming subsided, and so did her bawl.
The Devil touched every inch of her body,
Surrendering his senses to her skin's glory.
His ears were deaf to her wailing cries,
For his hand moved down to seal her demise..
Now the silent screams haunted her mind,
She felt his fingers, ever so unkind.
She felt his mouth, press against her lips,
Now the Angel's voice, she can truly miss.
Suddenly, she felt sharp pain in her lower body,
Minutes passed like hours, but he pierced her already.
He moaned in pleasure, she groaned in pain,
Never would her life be the same again...
Once her virginity was stolen, taken away,
"That was marvelous," was all the devil could say.
They were somewhere far away from the city,
But he was already satisfied, and showed no pity.
He slammed her head against the door,
Threw her out of his car, onto the floor.
He drove away, howling in victory,
But she lay there, pleading for sympathy...
To contact the Angel, she already tried,
His phone was off, and her sadness was revived.
She called her friends, and was soon back home,
Never did her tears leave her cheeks alone...
She wished for the Angel now so much,
Stayed up late, to try to get in touch.
She promised herself to visit him tomorrow,
Her only hope to soothe her sorrow...
The morrow came, and to the Angel's house she walked,
All the time recalling memories, the train of thought.
If beneath him lay evil too, she silently swore,
To the next life, she would yieldingly strive for.
She still carried herself with unbelievable grace,
But her mind was tainted, the smile vanished from her face.
She knocked, and his mom opened the door,
And pitch black clothing was all she wore.
Her heart pumped fast now, against her chest,
"He's dead", was all the mother had said.
His mother said in the bathtub he motionlessly laid,
With his wrists cut deep, and wounds too late to aid.
A name was carved, on his chest,
One that the mother wasnt able to attest.
She stood in shock, soaking in the pain,
Now her life was truly a hopeless game...
Her innocence was stolen, by one simple choice,
Her ears now longed for the Angel's placid voice.
She asked his Mom, for the location of his grave,
She ran while suppressing her heart's tormenting wave.
There it lay, his tombstone in grey,
She choked, trying to find the words to say.
Her tears now gently streaked her cheek,
Why did she feel so guilty and weak?
Now in the graveyard, she embraced his stone,
Speaking out the words that he waited for for so long..
"I love you," and she wept for hours, defeated,
The reply would never, yet she still waited.
Now in her home, to the bathtub she walked,
Smiling as she carved his name in thought.
Next were her wrists, and she silently prayed,
To meet the Angel in Paradise's glade....
(That was long... very long.
I actually intended for this poem to be a short one. However, I was touched by something phenomenal... and decided to continue.
Truthfully, I found difficulties continuing the poem halfway, since my eyes were on the brink of tears...
To write what the Devil actually did to the girl and to have actually won, and the Angel's purity and innocence towards her and and to be defeated,
was touching. At least to me, it was.
As sad as it is, I already experienced such a tragedy in my life, though it wasnt truly as tragic as this poem's events.
Let's hope one day, the Angels will truly know true happiness, and get what they deserve.
People like the Devil exist in our world today. Sad, but true. However, it is the girl (or guy's) decision for which path they take.
The answer is truly obvious, you just have to look BEYOND the magnet towards taboo and evil, and you're all set...
I hope anyone who reads this long piece, appreciates the deep thoughts that lay within.
Oh, and thanks for reading this far too. :-) )

Could this date from the depression following World War One ?
I could imagine my grandmother possibly buying this at the street door from some poor wretch down on his luck.
