Landscape photographers are always looking for a good and interesting foreground that will add depth to the image. I was scouting this area the night before and came across this "Buried Treasure",as far as I was concerned. The light was poor so I would return when it was better.
My foot prints and tripod marks were still in the same place the next evening so I set up and nature took care of the rest. The evening got even better when 2 entertaining baby beavers showed up right in front of me. I then noticed their damm hidden under the snow just to the left of this image. It was a marvelous evening to say the least.
Agua Amarga es una localidad almeriense situada a unos 60 km de Almería y a unos 7 km de Carboneras, pertenece al termino municipal de Nijar (uno de los más grandes de España).
Dentro del Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar, constituye un centro turistico tranquilo. Su nucleo urbano está formado por un grupo de casas blancas.
En sus proximidades se encuentran la Playa de los Muertos, Cala Enmedio, y la Cala del Plomo
También tiene unas ruinas del embarcadero del mineral de hierro

These canoes lay in waiting for the summer to arrive. We have seen the coming of spring and the melting of the snow, only to wake up this morning to a new foot of it.
A shallow depth of field serves to symbolize what we look forward to and the darkness, what we leave behind.
Cala Enmedio es una cala que se encuentra entre dos cerros : el Cerro del Cuartel y el Cerro de la Higuera
Son los acantilados blanquecinos volcánicos de estos cerros, en contraste y contacto con el mar, los que por sus formas, se llevan el protagonismo y caracterizan el lugar.
Cala Enmedio está a unos 3 km. de la localidad almeriense de Agua Amarga (a 60 Km. de Almería).
Se trata de una cala de 130 metros de longitud, de arena fina con toques rojizos.
Estamos en un espacio virgen (sin urbanizar, sin chiringuitos, etc ). Un espacio natural protegido, una maravilla que debemos cuidar y respetar.
Ir hasta la misma cala en coche es imposible. Hay que ir a pie, haciendo una media hora de senderismo, subiendo y bajando.
Partiendo desde Agua Amarga, detras del lado derecho de su playa, hay una rambla ( un grandisimo descampado que se usa como aparcamiento ). Desde ahí, y junto a la carretera, hay un letrero que indica "Sendero a 450 metros ". Empezamos a subir, y tras unos pocos metros asfaltados, ya empieza el sendero. Durante el trayecto, hay pequeñas flechas rojas pintadas, que nos indican el camino.

This is my prize shot and the one that will be on the cover of my book. While the rest of the group moved on, I waited for that cloud to move into the ideal positiion. Numberous shots prior to this have the cloud to the right and result in a less balanced shot. No cloud and it's to plain. The shadows and the ever so slightly green toned foreground brush contribute to breakup the veins in the red sand.
It was Tom our guide, who presented this area to our group. Money well spent to get just the right light and an area only Navajo are aloud to enter.
The complete silence along with the peace and serenity of this place reminded me of a Chris De Burgh tune from years ago. In the song, those words are used to describe a feeling of utter bliss.
We went to Banff yesterday for a day trip. This is behind the Fairmont Banff Hotel and an awesome site. We walked for hours and took in the fabulous natural sites along with the local cuisine. (Junk food)
La playa de los Genoveses, es una de las playas más extensas (1.200 m.) y emblemáticas del Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Nijar (Almería - Spain). Es un espacio protegido y virgen. No hay edificios, chiringuitos, carreteras, paseo marítimo, etc,... Hay mar, playa, dunas, eucaliptos, pitas, chumberas, etc...
Acceso : una vez en San José ( a 35 km de Almería ), todo está muy bien señalizado. Se llega al inicio de un camino de tierra con barrera de acceso para vehículos. La mayoría del año se puede acceder en coche y llegar hasta un pequeño parking.
Si estamos en temporada alta, ojo, y para evitar sorpresas, muy probablemente no se permita acceder en coche, dependerá de la hora y la ocupación que haya. Sí se puede en autobus y a pie.
Si vamos a pie, tenemos dos opciones :
1. Seguir el camino de tierra principal, (con vehículos y más largo)
2. Enseguida vemos el Molino de los Genoveses, y desde él, seguir la servidumbre de paso (una senda, que en un paseo de unos quince minutos, entre pitas , pinos y chumberas, nos lleva hasta la misma playa)
La playa de los Genoveses, está comprendida entre el cerro del Avemaría (en la foto), y el Morrón de los Genoveses.
En 1147 los genoveses desembarcaron aquí para ayudar a Alfonso VII en la reconquista de Almería
