Warning! As for this image (and many others), it must be said that psychology does supply narratives - but not explanations. Helios 44M-7 at F8, three LED lights.
Thai dogs
Thailand - A photo without human presence. It's rare. This time it is the dogs who are the stars of this scene which reflects the tranquility of the place. Stray dogs such as we come across throughout Asia. But in Thailand, I noticed that these animals are not undernourished. The reason ? They have long understood that fishing boats returning to port throw fish unfit for human consumption overboard. These fish are not lost on everyone.

There is an almost ethereal presence of light in this Infra Red shot. Shooting into the sun produces some great results.
In darkness we cannot see, but when light fills the void real illumination takes place. Shadows are only possible where there is light to cast them. Darkness is emptiness and void. Light is fullness and revelatory.
These statements are not just "phenomenological" (concentrating on the study of our consciousness of things and the objects of direct experience - in this case light), they are also "metaphysical" (fundamental to the nature of reality). It was the early Greek philosophers who taught us to think in such ways.
But it is also significant that many stories of creation, especially in the Book of Genesis, make similar statements about beginnings:
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness." (Genesis 1:1-4).
Psalm 139:7: “Where can I flee from Your Spirit? Or where will I run from Your presence?”
“Oh, God, why is Your peace so hard to find,
Like the answer to the questions that haunt my mind?
Oh, Lord, Your ways are not like mine.
Hear my cry of desperation,
As I see the wickedness of my ways.
For You alone are my salvation.
My heart longs to serve,
But wanders so aimlessly.
Oh, Lord, You deserve every part of me.
Lord, I've learned this one thing to be true,
Is that the closer I get to You,
I see I'm a stranger...
Al though I call You ‘Lord’ I must confess
I'm a stranger to Your holiness.
A stranger to Your holiness.”
Today was cloudy, but the low lighting was balanced--even. So I decided to follow-through on my plan to hopefully see and get some photos of the male Streak-backed Oriole (Icterus pustulatus) that has been visiting in nearby Montana de Oro SP for the last 5 months. A Mexico species with casual fall and winter appearence in Southeast Arizona and Southern California, this oriole is rare in our California Central Coast. (NGO Field Guide to Birds of Western North America). I had put in my time on multiple visits to find him, but to no avail or had just quick glimpses of a few fleeting fly-bys. Today however, I was alone, standing by the cactus plant whose fruits he frequently feeds upon. It was only a half hour wait before he flew in and I had 40 seconds with this beauty--an exceptional day for this bird photographer; Sony a9; Sony 200-600mm lens +1.4X at 840mm; handheld; 1/2000sec; f/9; ISO 6400; Topaz AI De Noise & Sharpen
Thank you all for your comments and friendship. This is a very busy month for me, I am studying for my PhD, the presentation will be at the end of June, most probably. Right now I am finishing the writing of my dissertation. My visits and comments will be a lot less frequent, but hopefully I will come back stronger ;) Keep shooting, dammit! hehe! :p

Even in my near presence, this Coyote was alert for any other objects of interest. I'm not sure what it was looking at. There was only the Coyote and myself in a 1/2 mile by 1 mile open field.

An early morning presence on the bayou that I was not expecting. I’ll admit to taking a few liberties with the processing, but there was nothing done to the eye. It was just after sunrise on Horsepen Bayou. One of my lumpy lizard friends rising up from the depths to greet me.

When you hurt under the surface
Like troubled water running cold
Well, time can heal but this won't
So, before you go
Was there something I could've said
To make your heart beat better?
If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather
So, before you go
Was there something I could've said
To make it all stop hurting?
Was never the right time, whenever you called
Went little by little by little until there was nothing at all
Our every moment, I start to replay
But all I can think about is seeing that look on your face
Would we be better off by now
If I'd have let my walls come down?
Maybe, I guess we'll never know

56091 makes its presence known hammering through frosty Daresbury with 4Z19 0800 Ravenhead Sidings to Chaddesden Yard empty box wagons. Could have done with it running half an hour later but beggars can't be choosers...!
This is the first time a DCR Class 56 has worked on this circuit and appeared because there was no Class 60 available; previously a DB Class 60 was hired in as and when required. The maintenance of the Class 60's has recently been transferred from Toton to Leicester (perhaps at the end of the warranty period) so this could explain the substitution.
Originally the path to return the empty wagons to Chaddesden Sidings was in the system for Tuesday but happily the 56 was required elsewhere so the train ran on Monday to coincide (for once) with a nice forecast.

Fish hatchery building at Fish Hatchery park Hastings, Mi
The community hatchery initiative began in 2001 with the realization that local trout fisheries in our area were declining. Previous stocking efforts had been providing large-bodied fish that did not reproduce well in our smaller in-land lakes, especially under changing climate conditions. Following several community meetings, a group led by Dennis and Mary LeFeuvre decided to create the North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery with the support of many sponsors and partners. Construction of this state-of-art hatchery facility began in 2007, and volunteers have been producing fish since 2008.
The hatchery is raising a unique local strain of Lake Trout (named the ‘jewel’) that has adapted over time to the conditions in our area and is more likely to sustain healthy lake trout populations into the future. In recent years, the hatchery has also expanded production efforts to include brook trout and brown trout.
This hatchery was the vision and dream of Dennis LeFeuvre. He was a founding member and driving force in its development. Dennis passed away suddenly on June 2, 2010 but lived long enough to see Jewel lake trout start their life cycle in the hatchery and be stocked into local lakes. This hatchery is his legacy to our community.

Woodlawn Cemetery, The Bronx
According to the internet seeing a deer in a cemetery evokes a sense of a spiritual presence or a message from the beyond. Personally, I think this beautiful deer wandered south of his home in Westchester and we happened to cross paths with each other.
Christmas isn’t about giving or receiving presents—it’s about God’s presence in our lives.
The message of Christmas is simple yet life-changing: “You shall call His name Emmanuel, which means ‘God with us’” (Matthew 1:23).

¡Cuidaos y manteneos saludables, queridos amigos y amigas!

Exhibition. Silence & The Presence of Everything.
Can you capture a ray of sunlight? Artists Sabine Marcelis (born 1985) and Boris Acket (born 1988) tried. The idea for this work arose when they saw a ray of sunlight shining perfectly in a puddle of water for five minutes. This artwork is a poetic attempt to preserve this usually fleeting image and thus briefly freeze time.Tentoonstelling. Silence & The Presence of everything.
