...so here's a shot from a couple summers ago as a precursor.

A Kyle railways slow-freight creeps towards the railroad's western terminal at Limon, CO at what had to be about 10 mph. Good news for me, as I had a 16 mile round trip to the nearest exit and back when I spotted him from I-70 while headed eastbound.

A precursor to the CN getting to Chicago was the operation of a pair of trains between the BN Northtown Yard at Minneapolis and CN's Symington Yard at Winnipeg. CN subsidiary Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific connected the BN and CN between Duluth and the Canadian border at Ranier/Fort Francis. So DW&P SD40s were in the pool as well.

Here one unit each from the pooling roads nears BN's Northtown Yard outside of Minneapolis.

The CN later went on to operate trains between The Twin Ports through the Twin Cities and on to Chicago via BN haulage rights. Then wanting a route of their own to Chicago from the northwest they acquired the Wisconsin Central in 2001.

A precursor to the PA-18 Super Cub, the PA-11 Cub Special incorporated many features that would find their way into that later variant. From Wikipedia; "The PA-11 was based on the earlier J-3, but with the engine cowling fully enclosed (as on the earlier J-5), the windshield sloped at a shallower angle, and the fuel tank placed in the port wing root.[2] Both seats were slightly moved back, and solo flying was usually from the front seat." _DSC7248

The Gūr-i Amīr or Guri Amir (Amir Temur maqbarasi‎‎‎), is a mausoleum of the Asian conqueror Timur (also known as Tamerlane) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It occupies an important place in the history of Persian-Mongolian Architecture as the precursor and model for later great Mughal architecture tombs, including Gardens of Babur in Kabul, Humayun's Tomb in Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra, built by Timur's Persianised descendants, the ruling Mughal dynasty of North India. It has been heavily restored.

Gur-e Amir is Persian for "Tomb of the King". This architectural complex with its azure dome contains the tombs of Tamerlane, his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah and grandsons Ulugh Beg and Muhammad Sultan. Also honoured with a place in the tomb is Timur's teacher Sayyid Baraka.

The earliest part of the complex was built at the end of the 14th century by the orders of Muhammad Sultan. Now only the foundations of the madrasah and khanaka, the entrance portal and a part of one of four minarets remains.

The construction of the mausoleum itself began in 1403 after the sudden death of Muhammad Sultan, Tamerlane's heir apparent and his beloved grandson, for whom it was intended. Timur had built himself a smaller tomb in Shahrisabz near his Ak-Saray palace. However, when Timur died in 1405 on campaign on his military expedition to China, the passes to Shahrisabz were snowed in, so he was buried here instead. Ulugh Beg, another grandson of Tamerlane, completed the work. During his reign the mausoleum became the family crypt of the Timurid Dynasty.

Beautifully subtle colours before dawn at Saltwick Bay. A 3.30am start for this morning shoot. The last dawn excursion before summer didn't disappoint with some great colour in the sky. After recovering from the shell shock of the early start being here at this time of day was quite magical. I can see why people get hooked on sunrise photography.

The charming village of Barbizon nestling on the edge of Fontainebleau forest owes its fame to the 19th-century landscape painters Théodore Rousseau, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Charles-Francois Daubigny and Jean-François Millet who lived there. Their artistic movement, the Barbizon School (1830 to 1875), was considered a precursor of Impressionism. The artists appreciated the tranquillity of this peaceful village and the beauty of the surrounding nature.

Walking along the main street, you'll find a succession of beautiful homes, shops, restaurants and art galleries.

However, this wasn't to be on this day. It fizzled out and turned grey not long after I shot this photo. Very disappointed...

The rufous-naped lark (Mirafra africana) or rufous-naped bush lark is a widespread and conspicuous species of lark in the lightly wooded grasslands, open savannas and farmlands of the Afrotropics. Males attract attention to themselves by their bold and repeated wing-fluttering displays from prominent perches, which is accompanied by a melodious and far-carrying whistled phrase.[2] This rudimentary display has been proposed as the precursor to the wing-clapping displays of other bush lark species.[3] They have consistently rufous outer wings and a short erectile crest,[2] but the remaining plumage hues and markings are individually and geographically variable. It has a straight lower, and longish, curved upper mandible.

The Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA), which is held every two years, takes place in 2021 in Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, from 23 April to 10 October. The main exhibition areas are the egapark and Petersberg hill with the Petersberg Citadel, and the size of the exhibition area is 430,000 m². Erfurt's history is closely linked to horticulture. Even Martin Luther referred to the city as "the gardener of the Holy Roman Empire". In the 19th and 20th centuries, companies such as Haage, Schmidt, Benary, Heinemann and Chrestensen ultimately ensured Erfurt's international fame as a "flower city".

A first International Agricultural and Horticultural Exhibition was held in Erfurt from 9 to 17 September 1865. The "General German Exhibition of Agricultural and Horticultural Products" attracted over 30,000 international guests to Erfurt and is considered the "Precursor of the BUGA".

The Pannonian Plain is a large plain in Central Europe that remained when the Pliocene Pannonian Sea dried out. It is a geomorphological subsystem of the Alps-Himalaya system.

The river Danube divides the plain roughly in half.

The plain is divided among Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

The plain is roughly bounded by the Carpathian mountains, the Alps, the Dinaric Alps and the Balkan mountains.

Although rain is not plentiful, it usually falls when necessary and the plain is a major agricultural area; it is sometimes said that these fields of rich loamy loess soil could feed the whole of Europe. For its early settlers, the plain offered few sources of metals or stone. Thus when archaeologists come upon objects of obsidian or chert, copper or gold, they have almost unparalleled opportunities to interpret ancient pathways of trade.

The precursor to the present plain was a shallow sea that reached its greatest extent during the Pliocene, when three to four kilometres of sediments were deposited.

The plain was named after the Pannonians, a northern Illyrian tribe. Various different peoples inhabited the plain during its history. In the first century BC, the eastern parts of the plain belonged to the Dacian state, and in the first century AD its western parts were subsumed into the Roman Empire. The Roman province named Pannonia was established in the area, and the city of Sirmium, today Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, became one of the four capital cities of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century.

We had been watching the various Aurora Apps all day as a storm was predicted. As I returned home from work the red alert went off. A hurried tea and a dash to a local location that we had decided would give us a good chance of seeing the Aurora. As I arrived I was surprised to have the location to myself, a quick check of the sky with my phone got me scrambling to get across the field whilst trying to whatsapp Geoff to say there was an aurora going on. As soon as I could I plonked my tripod down and hurriedly took this shot, just in case it was a fleeting moment, I needn't have worried, what followed was stunning

It is located in the heart of the San Carlos neighborhood, in the Plaza de Argüelles. It is a harmonious set formed by four totally independent houses conceived with a unitary spirit, it was built between 1736 and 1745 at the initiative of the merchant born in Damascus in 1656, of Greek nationality, named Juan Clat Fragela, who arrived in Cádiz in 1683 and who did a great fortune participating in the Race of the Indies.

The building with the four towers has a baroque layout, a rectangular floor plan and its facades concentrate the decoration in the corners based on paired pilasters with overlapping orders. These towers form, without a doubt, the most accomplished and most monumental of all the towers built in Cádiz.

In this square stands the monument to General Francisco de Miranda, known as the Precursor of American Emancipation.

“This artist’s concept shows what the 4-man GE space station would look like in space. The supply crafts hovering around the station are Gemini vehicles.”

So, this is possibly a MORL precursor? Or, is it MORL without being called MORL? Despite varied literature I came across it's sort of muddled...at least to me. Especially, with this being a General Electric entry/submittal & them being out of the running by the time "MORL" was the common jargon. I think. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I assume the station is spinning. 😉

A wet and windy weather front is approaching. Here's the precursor

Located in Delhi, India, Humayun's tomb or mausoleum was a precursor to the Taj Mahal but with major differences. Humayun's tomb was commissioned by his wife, and the facade uses mostly red sandstone with white marble highlights topped by a white marble dome. The Taj Mahal was commissioned for the emperor's wife and uses only white marble for the facade. Also Humayun's Tomb is located in a large garden setting and is symmetrical and almost the same from all four directions. It also has no minarets.

—from Wikipedia

Humayun's tomb (Persian: Maqbara-i Humayun) is the tomb of Emperor Mirza Nasir al-Din Muhammad commonly known as Humayun, the second Mughal emperor. Situated in Delhi, India, the tomb was commissioned by Humayun's first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum under her patronage in 1558, and designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad, Persian architects chosen by her. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, and is located in Nizamuddin East, Delhi, close to the Dina-panah Citadel, also known as Purana Qila (Old Fort), that Humayun founded in 1538. It was also the first structure to use red sandstone at such a scale. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993, and since then has undergone extensive restoration work, which is complete. Besides the main tomb enclosure of Humayun, several smaller monuments dot the pathway leading up to it, from the main entrance in the West, including one that even pre-dates the main tomb itself, by twenty years; it is the tomb complex of Isa Khan Niazi, an Afghan noble in Sher Shah Suri's court of the Suri dynasty, who fought against the Mughals, constructed in 1547.
