Some ragged prayer flags on location at the Kagyu Mila Guru Stupa near Questa, NM. My daughter and I were able to take a little time to stop and enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds at this beautiful and holy place. The flags almost were singing as wind made them flutter in the cool breeze. I was also able to get an opportunity to work on a little DOF with this photo.

I put up some new prayer flags recently! This is a test shot from the new traveling camera project.

These are inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, which Buddhist monks hang on the high steppes so the prayers printed on them can be whisked into the universe with help from the elements. I wanted something more culturally relevant than Sanskrit sutras, so I made my own with icons of the hand-made and the natural world. Flags are 9x6 inches each, cut from repurposed bedsheets, and zig-zag stitched to selvage from rolls of upholstery fabric. Images are painted with hand-cut stencils in water-based, low VOC spraypaint.

This was the first WIUX PRESENTS show of the new, 2010 spring semester. The bill was Cast Spells with local bands Prayer Breakfast and Osteoferocious.

This is a two shot HDR of some prayer wheels at the Lamayuru monastery. For some reason, I spun the wheels, and then tried to take this bracketed exposure, fortunately Photomatix was smart enough to deal with the movement. I've gone with the square crop here because there was a lot of out stuff on the edges that was out of focus.
