While the world sleeps, Varanasi wakes up way before sunrise to the chants of Ganga Aarti, like it has for thousands of years.
Devotees storm the ghats to witness the Aarti which is followed by prayers performed on the banks of Ganga.
It's crowded yet so isolate, it's noisy yet so peaceful - simply put, If its life, it's 'Varanasi'
"River Prayer" [1/52]
Here we go again :) I said I was going to do a 52 week project again and I'm going to try my best to keep to it again.
This image was taken during Promoting Passion convention last year in Buffalo, NY on a gorgeous property. I've posted a few pictures from it, like the red tree and the moon in the lake.
This image was taken during Joel Robison Photography's workshop. After I watched his demo, I helped others with their conceptual ideas. Something about this lady caught my eye and really drawn me to the idea of prayer. Maybe I was looking for a way to be creative again, maybe I wanted to work with someone new to me, or maybe I just saw a pretty spot and wanted someone there. Doesn't matter. I scooped her up as soon as she was done with another photographer. I brought her over to the side of everything. Someone was generous to hold a big tree branch back as I caught the angle I wanted for my image. I sat on this image for a while. I couldn't quite figure out what I wanted it to say yet but I'm finding more often now that my work has given me stories over me creating stories and forcing my images to show those stories.
It's a new adventure for me to give up being in control of certain things. Everything has to be how I like it or it's nothing to me. I see myself as a very controlling person in some regards. I suppose it's fear of the unknown, fear of possibly not being able to adapt, or fear that I'm not good enough.
My entire life has been about trying to control certain situations so that I can look as good as I possibly can. Being bullied as a child has long term aftereffects. I want to stop blaming these past traumas and hold myself more accountable. I'm not my past and my past will never be who I am today.
Prayer flags flutter in the wind this afternoon as aperture and focal experiments are made using the C Sonnar 1,5 / 50mm ZM Carl Zeiss lens on a Hasselblad camera with a digital sensor attached to the back of the unit.
The grass is always longer (and greener) on one side of the fence... !
The photo was taken in Brussels at the Rouge Cloitre.
The lake reflecting the awaking trees, its trembling surface is like the pray: the waves of the spirit towards the universe. The vibration of soul transformed to thought then translated to word that ripples into the Infinite, Divine, God, into the One.

“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
These sticks were also at the Fushimi Inari Taisha. I think they too have prayers written on them but I am not 100% sure.

Along the trail up the mountain at the Fushimi Inari Shrine were some smaller shrines. Here two people are offering prayers. I haven't been able to find out if these are Shinto priests or not, but their dress suggests a special role.
Inari is the Japanese kami of foxes, of fertility, rice, tea and Sake, of agriculture and industry, of general prosperity and worldly success, and one of the principal kami of Shinto.

Ishmaelites Prayers - Tribute by Daniel Arrhakis (2023)
At least two people have died after a man wielding a knife attacked attendees at an Islamic religious centre in Lisbon. A third victim, reportedly an employee of the Ismaeli Centre, required treatment in hospital after being stabbed in the neck.
My deepest feelings and prayers for the victims of this barbaric attack to the Ishmaelite Centre in Lisbon, Portugal.
More than ever, the World needs Peace, Tolerance and Sharing in a new dawn that brings Light back to the darkness that has settled in our times...

A scripture from God's Holy Word for this time:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
Boudhanath Stupa (Kathmandu, Nepal) is home to one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, built during the 5th century AD.
For centuries, Boudhanath has been an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists & local Nepalis. It is located on what was a major trade route between Nepal & Tibet. Many traveling merchants used it as a resting place. It is also a popular tourist site. In 1979, Boudha became a UNESCO World Heritage Site
