Well.....our potential "winter event" for 2019 was a total bust. Local meteorologists and iphone weather apps whipped the whole city up into a snow induced frenzy. In reality, we got a light dusting and will get a whole bunch or rain. Alas, I will have to look back on images from last years snow storm and hope the temperatures drop.

Sometimes I don't see the cropping potential in a picture, and LightDancePhotography (thanks Ed) suggested a crop for this, so I thought I would see what you think... I think it worked rather well.

I used to play a little chess. Like most of the boys my age at the time, I got caught up in the Bobby Fischer craze when he beat Boris Spasski for the world championship. I bought a set, got a couple of books, learned a couple of cheap tricks, and was set to crush my opponents. At first, my opponents were mostly my friends who knew diddley squat about chess, and were easy pickings for a kid with some book knowledge and a few memorized opening traps.

Full of a false sense of invincibility, I decided to take my skills to the local chess club. I showed up at their meeting on Thursday night and the first thing I noticed was the room was full of old guys. How hard could this be? I'm not going to say anymore about this other than I did have some potential. Just not at chess.

This waterfront next to the Canadian Parliament...what can I say? Maybe it looks somewhat better at sunset? Maybe it looks better by cropping out the unimaginative Claridge condo buildings on Lebreton Flats? Just imagine what could be there...

Kids are amazing. The more time I spend performing for them, the "amazed-er" I get.

A child really can embrace the notion that something can magically appear in a bag that was empty just a moment before. They laugh with abandon. Looking cool isn't all that important to a kid.

I like kids.

When I am on stage doing a show, I look out at the all those little eyes looking back at me in the happy expectation that something wonderful is going to happen.

Do you know what I see? A sea of potential. These little people could become anything: writers or lawyers, serial killers or politicians (same difference, I guess.)

The world hasn't written on their souls with that indelible marker yet.

They could become anything.

Which is something else I find really cool. Who knows? Maybe one or two of them will wind up on flickr.

You're looking at a picture that I think has the potential to be one of the best shots I'll ever take.

Not this go around obviously, frankly this is pants, you can see that. But if you can look past the obvious deficiencies of this attempt, you'll surely see what I mean.

Look at the location, a reasonably straight run at you albeit with a roller coaster-esque feel, a couple of small dips and bumps followed by a much longer climb towards you. The semaphores to the left, the track literally disappearing from view in the foreground.

I've often thought of trying the shot from the bridge I've used to frame other shots from this location, see www.flickr.com/photos/darkprince66/16857442410/ .

Trouble is, doing so is going to lose that edge that those tracks disappearing gives, so that's out.

Position-wise, this is near perfect, I've got train, tracks and signals lined up well. Ideally, I'd like just a little more to the left side, so that you get both tracks of the down line that Tug 66 is on plunging away from you.

No matter this time, this is another epic fail. But one day, I'm going to nail this f***er. And you'll be the first to know about it.

I think neither me nor Ece could put out her full potential in our shoot- there seems to be a sleeping volcano below the surface--but in some terms we were able to touch the lava. But maybe for our next session, we may discover more..I know these sort of concept might be ''unfamiliar'' for my own concept, for those who are used to see more static images--but still the dark emotions can be felt..and going into some experimental is always mind-opening..

The main idea of this session is what Kate Moss did in the White Stripe video- ''I just Don't know what to do with Myself''; those who have seen the video will understand what this image really means..

When you're young, your potential is infinite.

You might do anything. Nearly. You might be Einstein... you might be DiMaggio.

Then you get to an age when what you might be...gives way to what you have been.

You weren't Einstein. You weren't anything.

...That's a bad moment.

It is the possibilities that excites me about photography.

Regardless of the subject matter, the possibility to discover something creative or unique inspires me to no end.

I believe that regardless of the subject matter, landscape, people or other studies

the creative potentials are the same.

It is very exciting to live the moment discovering the possibilities.

Nā Mokupuni o Hawai‘i Nei - translated: The islands of our beloved Hawai‘i.

A couple of years ago I was driving along the Windward coast in search of loko (ancient Hawaiian fishponds). I was hopeful that I could make some interesting images during a bit of inclement weather.

I came across this collection of rocks just offshore in Ka‘a‘awa. Although I didn't think this was an ancient fishpond, I saw the potential for making a compelling photograph. I liked how the waves were washing over the exposed wall of stones. The stationary black volcanic rocks stood in strong contrast to the turbulent white water and cloud-filled skies.

I took a number of different exposures from different angles, and with varying wave action, confident that the location and subject matter were good, but unsure if I was "getting" a worthwhile image.

It was only after I had the film developed that I saw something meaningful (to me) and which I hadn't pre-visualized at the time of exposure. It dawned on me as I gazed at the contact sheet how much the rocks appeared as a chain of islands rising above a primordial soup.

Had my pinhole camera somehow gone back in time to photograph the moment the god Maui pulled up the islands from the bottom of the sea with his magical hook?

The image also immediately reminded me of early maps of the Hawaiian Islands, with their rough island shapes surrounded by a stained deep sea. In fact, the image evoked a distinct memory I have of a specific map from a few years prior.

In 2005, I had the opportunity to visit the Library of Congress (LoC) in Washington DC. As a guest of a friend who was a LoC map librarian, I got a personal tour of the world's greatest map collection.

My friend showed me a number of early and significant maps of Hawai‘i, but the one that really stood out and made an impression on me was dated 1837 and attributed to Simona Kalama. This rare map, one of less than a handful known to exist, is noted as the most detailed map of the Hawaiian Islands up to that time, and the first map of the Islands drawn by a Hawaiian.

My pinhole photograph borrows the title of Kalama's map for its own.

The waterfall that named a town! Taking a quick break from the Lake 22 Trail to bring you this sunbaked image of Granite Falls located in (you guessed it) Granite Falls, Washington. This is likely the most unique waterflow I have achieved due greatly to the open sky sun above. It rendered these powerful waters all shades of color. This is truly not the time to usually be taking waterfall images but I stacked my circular polarizer & nd filter together, crossed my fingers that I wouldn't get crazy vignetting, and did everything I could to maintain a crisp image with my settings. I really enjoy this image more so for the difficulty it provided in capturing it. I had heard so many so so things about Granite Falls, I disagree, I believe it is a cool little waterfall. Thanks for checking this out. Enjoy!

Potential wild goose chase, they started to look interested and begin heading my way.

Bento Gonçalves: potencial turístico do Brasil!

Bento Goncalves is a Brazilian city of Rio Grande do Sul is located in Rio Grande Northeast, specifically the Serra Gaucho, has a population of 107,341 inhabitants (IBGE/2010) and is considered a medium sized city. It is known as a pole while wine, furniture and tourism, with an outstanding performance in these national and international sectors, constituting one of the largest economies of Rio Grande do Sul

Moreover, it is important to host events on the national scene as Fenavinho, ExpoBento, Brazil and Fiema Movelsul, all held in the Park Event Bento Gonçalves, the second largest of its kind in Brazil.

The settlers found a favorable climate in this region, similar to Europe, to establish the culture of the vine, which is still predominant in the region, the so-called Valley of the Vineyards.

The city receives thousands of visitors every year due to the number of options for tourism, but also because of its economic potential, due to the quality of its wines and the large number of furniture industry based in the city, which correspond to 40% of the state production sector and 8% of national production.
