The port of Rotterdam

Port Jefferson, LI

...and this is why I love Long Island... it doesn't get better than this!!

Port Jefferson is a beautiful, historic town located on the North Shore of Long Island where the smell of salt in the air and the sound of the Long Island Ferry is never too far in the distance. This waterfront town was settled in the 1600s as a rural town, but transitioned into a shipbuilding center in the 1800s.

Many of the historic buildings and homes still standing in Port Jefferson belonged to prominent sailors and shipbuilders in the area. Visitors to the town can still take in a slice of history at buildings like the Village Center. The Village Center was formerly a shipyard, where builders worked tirelessly to create and immediately launch ships into the Long Island Sound.

Today, Port Jefferson is widely known as a popular tourist spot in Suffolk County, as well as a transport hub thanks to the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, which takes hundreds of passengers to and from Connecticut each day. Port Jeff is busiest in the summer, but it also draws many tourists for unique events like the Charles Dickens Festival, which is held every December.

The port of Scheveningen

The port of Scheveningen is located directly on the North Sea and centrally on the Dutch coast, allowing quick entry and exit.

The port of Scheveningen is divided into three ports.

First Port: fishing

Professional fishing takes center stage in the Eerste Haven, such as the shipping companies and the fish auction. The offices of the Port Authority and the Traffic Control Center are also located here. In addition, there is room for offshore vessels, large commercial vessels, the towage service and the Royal Dutch Rescue Company (KNRM). The quays are characterized by large industrial activity.

Second port: recreation

The second port is the recreational harbour. In addition to the marina, it offers space for charter vessels, small commercial fishing and recreational fishing. You will find many catering establishments on the quays, giving the area its characteristic atmosphere. The port is a mix of business and tourism.

Third Port: special ships

The third port offers space for special ships, such as those of Rijkswaterstaat. This port is partly being developed into a sea sailing port. There are also opportunities for commercial shipping. The quay can be used by commercial vessels and research vessels, but is also suitable for larger sailing vessels.

Adelaida, AUSTRÀLIA 2023

Port Adelaide, located northwest of Adelaide's city center, is the main maritime port of South Australia. Established in 1837, it played a vital role in the early development of the region, serving as a key hub for supplies and information. Originally nicknamed "Port Misery" due to its challenging conditions, the area underwent significant transformation over time. Today, it is renowned for its rich maritime heritage, historic buildings, and attractions like the South Australian Maritime Museum. Additionally, the area has been revitalized with residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, preserving its historical charm while adapting to modern needs.

La Tour de Peilz, my trip started from here

Port Isaac is a traditional fishing village in north Cornwall. It is set amidst rugged rocks and magnificent scenery. Many will know it from the TV series Doc Martin. It has narrow winding streets with granite slate fronted Cornish houses. A stream runs through the village on its way to the harbour wall and the sea.

Properties at the edge of the water, at Port Dinorwic Marina, Gwynedd, North Wales.

Arriving at Port Mayaca before the Turn, an agonizing three hour wait unfolded. Before continuing past the lift bridge, the crew of the westbound SCFE Fort Pierce Turn would take the time to completely re-block their entire 84 car train; this process involved grouping all the loads towards the front and empties on the bottom. A runaround siding north of the bridge would be used to complete the work. Boredom kicked in while waiting, Mason cleverly taking the opportunity to nap while I kept an eye on the train‘s movements.

Just before 17:00, with their re-blocking work complete, the Fort Pierce Turn inched up towards the signal guarding the north side of the lift bridge, allowing for the conductor to hop off and lower the span. With the span down and locked after a seven minute wait, #HLCX6341 [SD40R] eases over the century-old Port Mayaca lift bridge at 17:06, the engineer blasting the K3LA for SW Kanner Hwy grade crossing. Excitement kicked in once the shot was pulled off, but with no time to celebrate, the chase back to Clewiston continued.

Standing at the rocky entrance to the harbor of Port Orford, OR, a small fishing community. A beautiful vast landscape. A 3-image stitched 3:1 format pano. 4pm in the afternoon. What I like the most is being able to see the horizon before me, and knowing I will be there by the end of the day. This day began in Bandon, and ended with a night arrival in Gold Beach. One of the best days of the trip. Amazing coastline!

During this coastal journey, I had taken many photos from the saddle with my point and shoot. It wasn't convenient to unpack my a6000 from my luggage every time I wanted to capture a scene. Due to my Canon SD 790IS's limitations, the results don't always reflect the vivid memory of the locations. Recently, I looked through them, and realized there are some consecutive shots that I can try to reconstruct a wider, better composition from the small 10Mp files. I've been successful with this task before with higher res files. Two tries with the Canon's files were successful and better than I expected. (Big Sur and Cannon Beach.)

So, I will be combing through my archive to find more candidates for stitching. Hope you enjoy the results as much as I do.

When we have a subject as this small port we look for its appropriate characteristics, except its small size you all noticed these ropes which allow the boats to be moored by the front and rear avoiding them being tossed (not to say more) by stormy weather. How to emphasize them? We beat around the bush, we try several points of view and then we say to ourselves that it would be interesting to pass below. Here we are, I am propped up to shoot when suddenly in the field appear children who run on the pier. Stop !!!

Do I expect they stand out from the field or I take them into account. I do not have to think very long time, one of their parents shout at them to come to picnic with them. Of a single man and a single movement they turn back and go running in the other direction, I have to wait and to bend slightly to centre them between two ropes. Click, I am rather satisfied with me..

Port Bryson Jetty sits on the southeastern shore of Lake Ōhau, named after Vern Bryson, an engineer involved in the Upper Waitaki hydro works that shaped much of the region’s modern infrastructure. Today the little jetty is best known for its sweeping view across the lake to the Ben Ōhau Range and the taller Barrier Range beyond — a classic Mackenzie Basin backdrop and one of the most photogenic mountain vistas in the South Island.
