Made it into Explore :D #286 on 17/11/07 - thanks to all.

This is a distinctive row of poplar trees just outside of Street in Somerset.

An approaching storm blocks the sun but the changing leaves seem to make a light of their own.

We walked through these poplars - these have been used in films in the past, on the pretext of it being France. Obviously economy films!

I had to pass through Poplar underground station on the way to a location in London, so it was a good excuse to grab a few shots as it's such a photogenic place.

At right are marks made by beaver teeth when this poplar tree was gnawed in an effort to cut down and topple it. Eventually the structurally weakened tree broke from its base (which became a stump) and fell over, producing the broken fibrous texture in the core of the trunk, seen at left. Seen close to the shore of the Elbow River in central Calgary, Alberta, western Canada.

97304 and newly refurbished 97302 make a spirited attack on Battlefield Bank, climbing out of Shrewsbury and leaving the poplar trees behind in their wake.

They were working a ballast engineers train from Dovey Junction, back to Crewe Basford Hall, and running early; I just made it in time having thought I'd have at least half an hour to wait. Sunday 21.4.19.

Yesterday's outing with the 4x5 pinhole camera and some local poplar trees. I wasn't too sure how close to go - obviously you are working blind to some extent and there's a lot of guess work. Will probably return here for another go at these.

Mind you considering there is obviously no viewfinder or lens I'm quite pleased!

Looking forward to printing these pinholes in the darkroom
