I read the articles at Scription concerning photo journaling with interest as Patrick describes his ideas about creating a digital solution to replace his trusty, but now unavailable polariod based journals. I was looking for a similar solution for an upcoming trip home to Scotland and wanted to try the techniques and ideas. I'm also taking my girlfriend with me this time and she's really excited. I would like to document our travel and her first experiences of Scotland and my home.
I decided to buy a PoGo pocket printer from Polariod to take with me. To be honest i wasn't that impressed to begin with at the quality of the print, particulary with the colour reproduction. I have to admit though, as time goes on, i'm becoming more impressed with this new toy as I realise and come to terms with it's limitations. The colours have a cast not unlike a Lomo camera. It's nowhere near as cool or 'artsy' but I still like it.
PoGo connects via bluetooth to mobile phones or can be used with USB and a Pictbridge compatible camera for on the go printing, however there was no mention of working with a computer. I tried to connect my Macbook Pro to PoGo but as expected was not recognised. I then paired the PoGo via bluetooth with the Macbook Pro and sent some images to the printer. The printer produced the prints on the 1st attempt with the colours being better and more accurate in the print. I did start to print files from aperture, RAW converted to JPG then sent the image to the printer with no resizing.
I think the PoGo will fit my needs for photojournaling on this trip when used with my LX3 and along side my Lomo LC-A. I'll keep you posted.
I've taken the plunge and started stitching. Nicole - looking at my reference photo, can you advise as to where you would go from here? Which colours or features would you do first?

Setting up me shit at Videotage 2010. I just can't describe the shear joy it gives me to hijack a venue's sound system and blast a live mix through it.

Pogo – 1969
With salt and vinegar chips
Pairing: 2009 Principe De Viana, Albret Crianza, Navarra, Spain
The third course featured a version of the carnival favourite consisting of an Andouille-like* sausage made with pork shoulder, fat and various spices coated in a batter that was deep fried and topped with cherry “catsup” (that was set with agar) and a moustarda “mustard.”
Both Steven and I were a little surprised at how mild the sausage was, both wishing for a little more heat. I will note that the texture of both batter and sausage was moist and soft, unlike the chewy, slightly dried out versions from the freezer aisle. Steven found the texture of the agar cherry catsup a little too agar thick. I'll admit, both "catsup" and "mustard" were more concentrated paste-like, but their sweet tanginess, complimented the mild homemade pogo. Would I crave this? Probably not. But I did love the plastic Hot Dog sleeve, the checkered wax liner paper and the fact we had chips! :) I don't think the latter was homemade. It's junk food, but with less junk than food inside. So that was a little comforting.
This was the start of our steady decent into junk food world. (Too fun.)

Pogo tries out his new “super hero” prosthetic leg after surgery at Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
This Ukranian is a die hard regular at XPLR. I mean literally die hard. A couple weeks ago Pogo was rushing to class on his bike and got "doored", broke his collar bone and now has a chunk of titanium in his left shoulder. And still this guy shows up at our photo rides.
I don't know what he does in photoshop or with his camera but his photos always come out with beautiful colors. They are out-of-this-world good! See for yourself at www.photoetic.com.
In the photo below, the blue light from the windows on the right and a flash from the left makes for very dramatic shadows and separates Pogo from the background.
I particularly like this portrait of Pogo (Evgeny Pogorelov) because much of his style and aesthetic is about interesting color. I like to think this picture with the contrast in light and dark and in particular with the difference in colour of the two light sources hints at his approach to photography. It's quite fun, perhaps a little ironic, photographing other photographers.
Strobist info:
A Canon flash 430EX handheld from the left zoomed all the way in, no gel. Power at 1/32? I forget. A natural softbox is provided by the blue tinted windows.

Shortly after this, ten one design let me know that there were some defects in a recent production run and that they'd happily ship a new one! Thanks!
