"Feel the Force of the newest sunlamps - only here! The Force is with us!"
Ukiyo-e print by Ferris Plock, Artist in Residence Program, Recology Center, Visitacion Valley, San Francisco CA
"While at the dump, painter and character illustrator Ferris Plock has continued to build on a recent body of work that incorporates elements of Japanese ukiyo-e prints and iconography from world religions with other motifs that hold personal significance. Meticulously rendered paintings simultaneously contain an elegant reverence and Plock’s characteristic humor and playfulness. Much like Plock, who had to proverbially hunt and gather at the dump for materials to make his paintings, figures in the works are engaged in their own mythic quests. Plock has used scavenged and recycled paints on panels crafted from old shipping crates and other wood retrieved from the Public Disposal and Recycling Area. Background patterns were created from stenciling found materials such as planter trays and milk crates, and found fabrics and papers served as sources of inspiration for the colorful patterns that appear in the garments of his characters"
The Skye Bridge (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid an Eilein Sgitheanaich) is a road bridge over Loch Alsh, Scotland, connecting the Isle of Skye to the island of Eilean Bàn. The name is also used for the whole Skye Crossing, which further connects Eilean Bàn to the mainland across the Carrich Viaduct.[1] The crossing forms part of the A87.
Traditionally, the usual route from the mainland to Skye was the shortest crossing, with a length of around 500 metres (1,640 ft), across the sound between the villages of Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland and Kyleakin on the island's east coast. A ferry service operated from around 1600, run by private operators and latterly by Caledonian MacBrayne.
Design and construction[edit]
Road and rail connections to Kyle of Lochalsh were constructed towards the end of the 19th century and various parties proposed building a bridge to the island. Although the engineering task was well within the capability of the age (the crossing is shorter and shallower than that bridged by the Forth Bridge), the island's remoteness and small population meant that the cost could not be justified.
Increased prosperity in the islands and a healthy summertime tourist traffic led to ever increasing volumes of traffic queueing for the ferries. This brought renewed calls for the construction of a road bridge. In 1989 Conservative junior minister James Douglas-Hamilton announced a bidding round, requested tenders to construct a toll bridge. A variety of locations and designs were proposed, and the contract was awarded to Miller-Dywidag, a consortium composed of Scottish construction company Miller Construction, German engineering company DYWIDAG Systems International, and financial partner the Bank of America. The Miller-Dywidag proposal (designed in collaboration with civil engineering firm Arup) was for a single-span concrete arch, supported by two piers resting on caissons in the loch and using Eilean Bàn as a stepping-stone. The PFI plan was accepted, and received support from local MP Charles Kennedy and the local council in the full knowledge that it would be on a high-toll basis for a limited period. Although the bridge itself was built with PFI, the approach roads were the responsibility of the Scottish Office, which paid £15 million for the roads and associated improvements, and to cover the costs associated with decommissioning the ferry. Construction began in 1992 and the bridge was opened by Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Forsyth on 16 October 1995. Then the ferry service ceased, and the bridge and the Mallaig — Armadale ferry were the only year-round connections to the mainland.
The two caissons that the main span stands on were cast as hollow cylinders in the old Kishorn Dry Dock and floated to site where they were sunk onto the prepared loch bed. Kishorn Dock had been built for the oil industry, but only built the one rig - Ninian Central.

1945 aerial view of Heidelberg Altstadt (Old Town), facing south-east.
The fire on the right is one of the few damages Heidelberg suffered during the end of WWII. It is a building near Plöck, Sandgasse and Theaterstrasse.
This photo must haven taken the day or shortly after March 30th. There's already U.S. Army trucks parked on Universitätsplatz.
The photo shows the new and old University buildings in the middle of the photo. as well as the Holy Spirit Church on the left side. The big building in the middle (tagged) is the new university addition donated 1930 by american like the Chrysler family.
Heidelberg 1945. On March 29th, 1945, Wehrmacht troops blew up the old bridge (and all other bridges) in order to slow the advance of american troops. The american troops take Heidelberg one day later without any resistance.
Bei ihrem Rückzug am 29. März 1945 sprengte die Wehrmacht die Alte Brücke.
Am 30. März 1945 rücken amerikanische Truppen (3. US-Infanteriedivision, 7. US-Armee) in die Stadt ein ohne auf nennenswerten Widerstand zu treffen.

Beautiful and interesting place with its a thousand years long history of the beginnings of The Kingdom of Poland, first kings from the Piast dynasty. In my opinion - a kind of small "Cracow" of the central Poland.

The Magdeburg (Korsun, Plock, Sigtun) Gates are a Romanesque bronze gate from the mid-12th century, located on the western side of the St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod, where the main entrance to the temple was located.
The gate was made in 1152-1154 in Magdeburg and was apparently intended for the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Plock.
In the version published by F. Adelung in 1823, this gate is a military trophy of the Novgorodians (Karelians, Estonians, Izhorians and Northern Russians), who sailed by sea in 1187 to the then Swedish capital of Sigtuna.
