Here in the Philippines, the city or transit buses used here are coach–type, in which there is a lack of access for persons with disabilities, especially for those who use wheelchairs.
There is always an answer, a low–floor or low–entry bus with PWD ramp. Columbian Manufacturing Corporation – through its Daewoo Bus brand introduced the new bus model in their product catalog, the Daewoo BS120SN or BS120S, which was launched during the 2016 Philippine Ineternational Motor Show
The Santarosa Motor Works–made body incorporates its design from its early Daewoo Bus models like the BS106, BV115 and BF106, and even from PKB212 body. Some of its body features are also used in their latest coach–type bus, the Daewoo BH117H.
Since the government are now requiring all brand–new vehicles to have an Euro 4 and above–compliant engine by January 1, 2018, the engine – Doosan DL08K is a Euro 5–compliant with 7.6L of displacement, a maximum power of 305 hp at 2200 rpm and 1127.76 N.m peak torque at 1200 rpm. While the Doosan DE08TIS and DE12TIS engines used in BF106, BS106, BV115 and BH117H are only Euro 2–compliant.
It also features an Allison T350R automatic gearbox with retarder and auto–neutral feature. The suspension used here is Electronically Controlled Air Suspension, same as the BH117H.
The seats are front–facing at the mid to rear part, side–facing at the mid to front and the first 2 rows are front and back faced. and the mid–door has a kneeling PWD ramp.
Philippine Touristers, Inc. or Phil Tourister's, the city bus subsidiary company of JAM Liner is the first bus operator to have the BS120S, as part of its return to Navotas–Pacita Complex line and they are the first non–P2P low floor/low entry city bus that will run along EDSA. Initially, it has 19 units, expanding to 20+, as of November 2017. As of February 2017, it is currently running on Phil Tourister's only route, Navotas–Pacita Complex and in Cubao/Kamuning–Cabuyao via Balibago route, operated by JAM Liner. This exact unit that was displayed on PIMS 2016 is currently operated by JAM Liner with fleet number 1615, running in Buendia–Balibago line.
While MyBus, a joint venture of JAM Liner and SM Prime Holdings started operating its BS120S, as of March 2018, plying on routes within Metro Cebu, particularly in SM Seaside City Cebu, SM City Cebu, and Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
Transaire Development Holdings Corporation, the private operator of Boracay Airport (RPVE/MPH) also acquired some BS120S units, serving as an Airport bus.

Back in the late 1980s and mid 1990s, this kind of bus dominated the Metro Manila roads, specifically its main thoroughfare, the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue. The MetroBus, founded in 1989, was a consortium of several bus companies operating on several routes plying primarily in EDSA. It was an initiative of the then-Department of Transportation and Communication (now Department of Transportation), together with Metro Manila Transit Corporation known for its Love Bus during the tenure of Ferdinand Marcos, PCI Bank (later Equitable PCI Bank, now BDO) and Columbian Motors Corporation, the distributor of UD Nissan Diesel buses from 1987 to 2015.
Some of the bus companies that carry the MetroBus brand are Mafel Trans, Inland Trailways, Aladdin Transport, Mayamy Trans, Philippine Rapid Transit, Santrans, Dela Rosa Transit, Columbus, Napat Transit (now Dimple Star Transport) and Citytrans, among others. Tritran and Five Star which primarily operates on provincial routes also used to operate under MetroBus brand for its city bus operations.
The non–airconditioned Santarosa Metrostar, equipped with UD Nissan Diesel Condor CPB87 truck chassis powered by UD Nissan Diesel FE6B engine was one of the most common units of MetroBus. Other units used are Santarosa/Columbian Manufactuing Corporation's SDX, an unknown model of Cosco bus imported from China - prior to exi, and more.
Over 730 SR Metrostar units (as of 1990) were built for MetroBus, and acquired by operators thru Bus Installment Purchase Program (BIPP).
Today, MetroBus no longer exists as they operate on their own names. Some SR Metrostar are rebodied for extended life and later decommissioned due to the 15-year age limit for PUBs set by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board or LTFRB. For the 2016 edition of Philippine International Motor Show CAMPI in which Columbian Manufacturing Corporation - the distributor of Daewoo Buses is a member, they give honor to the one of the most famous city bus back then, in line of introduction of the new standard city bus, the Daewoo Santarosa BS120SN. This large image above of a SR Metrostar unt is used as a Freedom Wall.
