Going down the road towards Piedmont, the phrase 'Magical Istria' makes full sense: suddenly a breathtaking view appears. In the foreground stands a medieval town perched on a summit overlooking the valley of the Mirna, while in the distance, beyond the river, one sees Montona which, from the top of its hill, seems almost suspended in mid-air. Here the story comes to life: the castellieri, the presence and human activity on the Quieto river navigable to the deep hinterland, the trade that took place in its ports, the centuries-old struggles between the various contenders, the mystical atmosphere of the Motovun Forest ... The settlement, built on the basis of a prehistoric castle, was also inhabited in antiquity as confirmed by inscriptions and reliefs. The first attestation of the toponym appears in the sec. XI in a deed of donation to the patriarch of Aquileia. Already at the time it appeared to be a sort of fortress that was restored and strengthened at each change of ownership: first the counts of Gorizia, then the Habsburgs, the lords of Duino and finally the Austrian Empire. The most detailed intervention was carried out by the Contarini family, who in the century XVI bought the feud at the auction together with that of Castagna.
Scendendo la strada verso Piemonte, il sintagma 'Istria magica' acquista pienamente senso: improvvisamente ci appare una vista mozzafiata. In primo piano spicca una cittadina medievale appollaiata su un cocuzzolo sovrastante la valle dei Quieto, mentre in lontananza, oltre il fiume, si scorge Montona che, dalla cima del suo colle, sembra quasi sospesa a mezz’aria. Qui la storia prende vita: i castellieri, la presenza e l’attività umana sul fiume Quieto navigabile fino al profondo entroterra, i commerci che si svolgevano nei suoi porti, le lotte secolari fra i vari contendenti, l’atmosfera mistica della Foresta di Montona… L’insediamento, sorto sulle basi di un castelliere preistorico, fu abitato anche nell’antichità come confermano iscrizioni e rilievi. La prima attestazione del toponimo compare nel sec. XI in un atto di donazione al patriarca d’Aquileia. Già all’epoca risultava essere una sorta di fortilizio che venne ristrutturato e rafforzato a ogni passaggio di proprietà: prima i conti di Gorizia, quindi gli Asburgo, i signori di Duino e infine l’Impero austriaco. L’intervento più dettagliato fu compiuto dalla famiglia Contarini, che nel sec. XVI acquistò il feudo all’asta assieme a quello di Castagna.

This time Lena gave birth to only one puppy.
Yes, only one. This female puppy was born last night.
The previous Lena's litters were 7/8/9/5 puppies and this year just 1 pup.
Both are doing well.
They are Lagotto Romagnolo dogs.
This is the only breed of dog that is officially recognized as specialized in truffle hunting.
She is Anita Garibaldi.

Dopo aver caricato la comitiva di appassionati svizzeri, il P/fo "Piemonte" lascia il pontile di Luino (VA), il 13/04/2013, per una rilassante crociera che lo porterà a costeggiare la sponda piemontese del Verbano fino alle Isole Borromee, per poi risalire, dall'eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso verso Luino, costeggiando la sponda lombarda.
