Tully is a small town in Queensland, Australia, adjacent to the Bruce Highway approximately 140 kilometres (87 mi) south of Cairns by road and 210 kilometres (130 mi) north of Townsville. At the 2006 census, Tully had a population of 2,457. Tully Sugar Limited was acquired by Chinese owned agribusiness company COFCO, through its Australian subsidiary Top Glory (Austalia) Pty Ltd, in July 2011. Milling operations typically occur over the period June to November each year.
Tully Sugar Limited produces raw sugar for export through the Mourilyan Bulk Sugar Terminal. The amount of raw sugar produced each year depends on the quantity of sugar cane available for crushing, the sugar content of that cane and the efficiency with which our operation can extract the sugar.
From 1999 to 2009, Tully Sugar Limited averaged annual production of 260,000 tonnes of raw sugar. Peak production was in 2004 when 315,000 tonnes of raw sugar was produced.
