Phlegm, Headford Street (2024). Headford Street, Sheffield.
Back in 2019 Phlegm painted a huge mural on the end of the Eye Witness Works building. This was as part of his Mausoleum of the Giants exhibition. The building has since been redeveloped, and as a result Phlegm’s original mural lost. However, the artist returned for some of the coldest days of 2024 (so far) to create and even bigger mural on the same wall. We think it is incredible and will prove extremely popular amongst Sheffielders and those from further afield.
Here is some more street art that can be found in our city - this can be seen in Osborne Road, Southsea (Portsmouth).
Renowned for his self-published comics and books, as well as his creative street art worldwide, Phlegm’s latest exhibition, the exceptional ‘Mausoleum of the Giants’ in Sheffield, was a testament to his artistic prowess. His name ‘Phlegm’ comes from ancient Greek medicine’s four temperaments, with Phlegm being attributed to an apathetic and unemotional temperament.
You can find Phlegm’s awe-inspiring wall in Southsea, Hampshire’s coolest place to live, known for its countless eye-catching street art and graffiti, independent shops, bars, and restaurants. The bustling area is also home to the festival curator My Dog Sighs, with many eyes watching you as you explore the vibrant streets.
Phlegm’s creativity and attention to detail are truly inspiring. His initial idea was to create a merman-type character for the Southsea seafront wall, especially with the facade already having half its wall painted in a turquoise colour representing the sea.
The sea creature designed by Phlegm looks like a unique interpretation of the Merman Triton, a Greek sea god who has come to be associated with a class of creatures similar to mermaids of either gender, who served as followers of other sea deities.
Thank you for viewing my page. I would like to point out that I am not the artist of any of the work shown. If you are the artist and would like any images of your work removed from my photostream just flickrmail me and I will remove it for you.

Phlegm is an internationally renowned street artist and has contributed many murals to Sheffield’s walls over the years. His surreal illustrations are normally monochrome, although Sheffield has had some rare multicoloured murals painted by the artist.
In 2019 Sheffield hosted Phlegm’s Mausoleum of the Giants exhibition in the city centre. Phlegm created a collection of sculptures that were temporarily housed in the old Eye Witness Works building on Milton Street between the 15th March and the 6th April. The exhibition was hugely popular, attracting visitors from around the world. You can read about Street Art Sheffield’s visit to the Mausoleum in our blog.
From Wiki-
Phlegm is a Welsh-born Sheffield-based muralist and artist who first developed his illustrations in self-published comics. The name 'Phlegm' came from one of the four temperaments in ancient Greek medicine: blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm. Phlegm was believed to be responsible for an apathetic and unemotional temperament.

Ostend. Oostende

2018
For the third time running, Belgian’s largest coastal city forms the backdrop for the popular art festival The Crystal Ship. Specially for this unique event, over fifteen (inter)national artists created large scale murals and art installations using the City by the Sea as their canvas. The new artworks became a permanent addition to the fifty larger and hundreds of smaller creations which resulted from the past three editions. Together they form an impressive artistic trail throughout Ostend.

Phlegm (England) is a world-known cartoonist and illustrator. He is also well known for his self-published comics and highly creative street art.
Here: Giant bugs dueling it out
Phlegm’s work is distinctively detailed composed of odd figures and a narrative structure. His work inspires greatness and is even often inspired by graffiti where Phlegm transforms run down urban spaces and factories.
The majority of Phlegm’s artwork is strictly illustration-based. He leaves his street artwork and murals for his cartoon-based art. In fact, that majority of his large characters originate from his comics and they are often spray painted onto very large walls. Phlegm prefers to paint his comic work with black Indian ink and a dip pen. He uses color only when he is screen-printing or painting large murals and other objects.
