In a scene familiar to generations of police officers, this group of Lancashire Constabulary officers stand to attention before their sergeant in the parade room at Leigh Police Station. In the background lurks the daunting figure of their inspector and woe betide any unfortunate constable who failed to live up to his, no doubt, demanding expectations.
The process of ‘parading on’ prior to duty was a feature of police like for many decades, as was the ritual known as ‘producing your appointments’ during which the constables held out their notebooks and whistles to prove they were properly equipped for patrol.
This image come from a set in the collection of the Greater Manchester Police Museum and Archive labelled Lancashire County Constabulary Training Slides and depict various officers on patrol in the town centre, at work in the police station or undertaking a variety of other duties. We think the images date from the late 1960s.

Members of HMS Daring's ships company model the Royal Navy's new Personal Clothing System (PCS), which is being trialled onboard the Type 45 destroyer.
A brand new uniform for the Royal Navy is being trialled by sailors on board HMS Daring while on operations in the Gulf.
The six month trial, which is also taking place on board HMS Westminster and HMS Talent, will test the shirt, trousers and boots known as the Number 4 uniform, traditionally a light blue shirt and navy coloured combat trousers which are worn all the time the ship is at sea.Photographer: LA(Phot) Keith Morgan

The library lends out 24 Tablet PCs to students for use in the buidlings. You can borrow a tablet for 4 hours at a time; it can be re-checked out if no one is waiting to use it after that. The Tablet PCs will let you get on the library's wireless network, which reaches from the lower level through the 3rd floor.
Fighter built in around 3 hours of constant building. Ship armament is 4 heany laser cannons and 2 Air to air misssles. Has fully fnctional landing gear and only has a maximum of four complete studs showing. Probably one of my better sapce themed builds. C&C appreciated.
