As the electronics hobbyist one of knowledge that we have to be familiar with is how to make our own printed circuit board (PCB). Making our own simple single side PCB actually is not require a sophisticated technique and technology as you might think, instead most of the required materials is already available at your home. The PCB for M2FC, Martlet 2's flight computer.

The flight computer features three K-type thermocouple inputs, three strain gauge half-bridge inputs, three 1A pyrotechnic outputs, a full IMU (±20g and ±200g 3axis accelerometers, 3axis gyro and magno, barometric pressure), a micro SD card for datalogging and a serial interface to the radio and other peripherals.

The PCBs were kindly sponsored by Cambridge Circuit company, thank you!

I'm bummed to report that my second round of prototype boards for my next kit upgraDDe (a battery charger) has turned into a redo. I was off on the drill size for many components. Actually I think I had the sizing right, but the barebones boards have been known to be off. The next round has been ordered with extra drill space for the pins.

After Green TRF applied over toner. I used Toner Transfer Paper from Pulsar (http://www.pulsarprofx.com/pcbfx/main_site/pages/products/toner_foils/toner_foils.html). I wasn't as successful getting it to stick evenly to the toner, but with more experimenting I think I can do better. I used a sharpie to coat the thicker sections to make sure they were well protected from the etchant.

From Dirty PCBs dot com. Dirt cheap, better than adequate quality, simple ordering, good web feedback, any shape you like, the panelising that enables and dirt cheap, yeah really dirt cheap... Which means you give your imagination a chance for minimal risk. One of these panelised boards was more of a rushed test than the other and having received them in the flesh I can instantly see how I might have done it better. But the total order price was $25 for 10 10x10cm of board, which I fit 2 boards into panelised. So it was $12.50 to experiment, get 10 functioning boards and a powerful experiential lesson. That's the real value of dirt cheap. Then there's the other 10 boards that I couldn't be happier with... for $12.50. My next order is already in...

Ah, it's been a while since I've had so many shiny new PCBs to work on :)

pictured here is the older ucHelper, and two more recent designs, the quad_esc and an experimental stepper motor platform.
