The PCBs for my nixie tube clock arrived, and I even got twice as many as I ordered! Hurrah for Gold Phoenix.

At any rate after a marathon soldering session they are finally assembled and awaiting testing and programming and all that. The power supply works, and the AVR was programmable, so that's a good sign!

My design with cooperation with RepRapSource made it to world!!

LEO III circuit Board UK. 1963-1964. A complete LEO III computer installation, with magnetic tape decks, paper tape readers, printers and other peripherals would have stretched approximately 35 metres. The museum has 22 large cabinets from a LEO III, the biggest segment of one to survive in a museum.

This is a custom TQFP socket breakout board that I made specifically for programming chips before soldering them onto the board. This helps identify bad chips.

I also can breadboard the entire project before I make the board to ensure the schematic is correct.

The printed circuit board motif on the Specialized Turbo is a nice touch.

Specialized Turbo media event San Francisco California 4/24/2013.

We wore red capes and rode these electric bicycles around the touristy parts of San Francisco.

We were lucky enough to take a trip down to Panama City Beach for the week with some wonderful friends, and I decided to bring my camera along and see what I could do with the sunsets given to us. It was definitely a wonderful trip!

I'm using the GIMP and Eagle to convert a low-resolution PCB scan into a manufacturable clone. The target is a Sega Genesis cartridge that I made with Sigflup for running ROM images loaded by USB or Mini-SD.

Altium is a *great* tool. Design-wise, we used two Arduino Mega 2560's, a Synapse wireless module, Locosys LS20031, Chronodot, and a bunch of (fun) design time!

This PCB mounts under the incoming message deck. It contains the loudspeaker power amplifier (the transistors in heatsink clips on the right), the 'auto mode' switch, and the circuitry to detect tape motion, triggered by the reed switch in the top centre.

The auto-mode switch is operated by the linkage on the cassette mechanism that would have operated the record switch if it were just a simple cassette recorder.

As the electronics hobbyist one of knowledge that we have to be familiar with is how to make our own printed circuit board (PCB). Making our own simple single side PCB actually is not require a sophisticated technique and technology as you might think, instead most of the required materials is already available at your home. Thanks to a fellow GeekHack member, I was able to purchase a couple sets of PCB mounted Cherry Stabilizers.

Note the emoticon. a couple decades ago they'd have made a circular smiley face. Now it's a colon and a parenthesis.

The main PCB which mounts on the bottom of the chassis. The bias/erase oscillator transformer (centre) and relay bracket (bottom left) are unscrewed so I can investigate the wiring.

On the right are the D-series plugs to connect to the main chassis.

The transistor numbers on the PCB have been assigned to help the repairer (!) :

TR1-3 : Announcement Playback Amplifier

TR2x : Message Recording Amplifier

TR5x : Bias/Erase Oscillator

TR6x : Ring Detector

TR8x : Announcement Start

TR10x : End of Announcement

TR12x : End of Message

TR14x : Message Playback Amplifier
