The Ebb And Flow Of Life - Poem by Edwina Reizer
The ebb and flow of the deep blue sea
is the same as it is for you and me.
Sometimes we're at peace with tranquility.
When life seems to move and lets us be
soothed by the rhythms that keeps us quiet
giving what we need to beautify it.
Sometimes we're turbulent as the stormy sea
wondering how troublesome times can be
upon us so fast, destroying harmony.
And nothing we do keeps us free
as we rock back and forth and to and fro
like strong winds from the north that won't let go.
And finally we learn to accept the change
of the ebb and flow and we rearrange
our thinking and the drift and debris
that comes to us like the sand at the sea.
For this is the natural order of things
that comes to all be they paupers or Kings.

That's life (that's life), that's what all the people say
You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June
I said that's life (that's life), and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life (that's life), I tell you I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life (that's life), that's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothin' shakin' come this here July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball a-and die
Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus 'cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town
Levon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days counting
In a garage by the motorway
He was born a pauper
To a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times
Said God is dead and the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Levon
Levon's sells cartoon balloons in town
His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
Leave Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing,
While Levon, Levon slowly dies
He was born a pauper
To a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times
Said God is dead and the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan, woo
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Levon
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan, woo
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man

Landscapes are usually about simplification of a scene and this shot of the Westertoren in the Grachtengordel neighborhood is a riot of detailed activity but for me it somehow works and is one of my favorite shots I so far have taken of Amsterdam.
The Ouwe Wester built in 1638 stands 87m high and is the tallest church tower in the city, the blue crown you see topping the tower represents the Imperial Austrian crown of Maximillian but from 1906-2006 it was the golden yellow of Rembrandt to honor him 300 years after his birth until recent renovations brought back the original blue color.
The Westerkerk that the tower is attached to is the largest protestant church of Holland and was designed by chief city architect and sculptor Hendrick de Keyser who had previously built the Zuiderkerk and the East India house, unfortunately Hendrick did not live long enough to see the completion of his greatest work but he did usher in the Dutch Classicism architectural style of the 17th century and left his mark on Amsterdam.
Rembrandt van Rijn was buried in the Westerkerk hence the color change to crown on the 300th anniversary of his death but nobody is sure where they buried him as he died a pauper and as is customary to the time the poor would be laid to rest in numbered kerkgraf or stone grave which would be emptied and the contents disposed of after a 20 year period.
Though they may lost the exact location of Rembrandt’s grave they honor him every year on his birthday July 15 with a concert of music from his period and flowers are hung on his memorial marker from 1909 taken from his famous painting the Nachtwacht or Nightwatch in English.
I took this on Sept 9th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 36mm 1/320 sec f/11 ISO1600 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

Grim Reaper
I am death. The one who collects. I make no amends. I have no regrets. Reap what we sow. Grim Reaper your soul. I am the keeper; I creep in the cold. Chill in your bones, your mind's mine to own. Die all alone, coins on your eyes pay the toll. From the Ferryman's boat, pauper to throne. They all pay the piper, no light where they go. Life might be fickle; death makes us equal. In front of the All they fall from my sickle.

This old guitar
seen dusty roads and smokey bars,
back seats of all my old cars,
city lights and southern stars.
This old guitar
it's told the truth it's told some lies.
Sometimes it sings, sometimes it cries.
It's who I am, it's my disguise.
This old guitar
it's just wood and strings and steel.
This old guitar
always knows just how I feel.
This old guitar
it's seen it's share of broken hearts,
it's got cracks and broken parts,
it's a symphony of scars.
This old guitar...
hell, I have even gone and named it,
I have cursed and blessed and blamed it.
Still my fingers have not tamed it.
This old guitar
guess you could say we show our ages
from all the songs and whiskey rages,
crazy stages final pages.
This old guitar
it's just wood and strings and steel.
This old guitar
always knows just how I feel.
This old guitar
it's seen it's share of broken hearts,
it's got cracks and broken parts,
it's a symphony of scars.
This old guitar
has played for kings and played for paupers
It's all the gold that's in my coffers.
Still I can't give it all it offers.
This old guitar

I had skin like leather and the diamond-hard look of a cobra
I was born blue and weathered but I burst just like a supernova
I could walk like Brando right into the sun
Then dance just like a Casanova
With my blackjack and jacket and hair slicked sweet
Silver star studs on my duds like a Harley in heat
When I strut down the street I could hear its heartbeat
The sisters fell back and said "Don't that man look pretty"
The cripple on the corner cried out "Nickels for your pity"
Them gasoline boys downtown sure talk gritty
It's so hard to be a saint in the city
I was the king of the alley, mama, I could talk some trash
I was the prince of the paupers crowned downtown at the beggar's bash
I was the pimp's main prophet I kept everything cool
Just a backstreet gambler with the luck to lose
And when the heat came down it was left on the ground
The devil appeared like Jesus through the steam in the street
Showin' me a hand I knew even the cops couldn't beat
I felt his hot breath on my neck as I dove into the heat
It's so hard to be a saint when you're just a boy out on the street
And the sages of the subway sit just like the living dead
As the tracks clack out the rhythm their eyes fixed straight ahead
They ride the line of balance and hold on by just a thread
But it's too hot in these tunnels you can get hit up by the heat
You get up to get out at your next stop but they push you back down in your seat
Your heart starts beatin' faster as you struggle to your feet
Then you're outta that hole and back up on the street
And them South Side sisters sure look pretty
The cripple on the corner cries out "Nickels for your pity"
And them downtown boys sure talk gritty
It's so hard to be a saint in the city

You are the dream that sets me free,
You give me wings to soar above the mundane and mediocre.
You allow me a moment in time where we can forget all reality.
You allow me to play both the Empress and the Pauper. Meek, fearsome and everything in between.
Thank you for being the dream.

The answer to John D. Delaney !
Image of the poverty of people living, in your reality
it is a picture of the pauper, ragamuffin,
It is usually dirty and stoned.
In Poland this poverty looks a little bit differently.
There is high unemployment, someone loses a job, have kids and bills to pay,
is an alternative, roll up even more,
or ask for help, begging on the street.
These are the people neat and clean.
As you can see, Your deduction is incorrect
"Prince or pauper, beggar man or thing
Play the game with every blow you bring
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion..."

So much has been said about the fork in the road. Yogi Berra said take it. The one on the left looks like it goes to the barn and thats it. It’s your choice if you want stability. But at the same time it's limited on opportunity. Going to the left ensures a life of hard work and little rewards. A good life nonetheless with the joys of family, satisfaction you get from hard work. Going right leads to the unknown, with more possibilities but more risk. You could end up president of company, or a pauper on the streets. Your future is in your hands and depends on how well you adapt to the changing conditions that meet you along the way.
This well-named little bird is found in the Andean foothills and adjacent lowlands from Venezuela to northern Argentina. Males and females are both equally drab, entirely medium brown with no distinctive markings. Very similar to females of several other seedeater and grassquit species, but note Dull-colored Grassquit’s bicolored bill. Uncommon and sometimes tricky to find as it forages inconspicuously in shrubbery at the forest edge or in gardens and second growth. Usually in pairs or small flocks. Listen for buzzy sputtering song that seems rushed.
Some research suggests that this plain little bird is the ancestor of the Darwin finches found on the Galapagos Islands.

Haw Tabor once owned the Matchless Mine in Leadville, Colo. It was one of the most productive silver mines in the US. With his great wealth, Tabor built this opera house for the city. He went on to become US Senator for Colo.
Along the way, he divorced his sensible wife, Agusta, for a girl called Baby Doe for her beauty.
Silver eventually went through a bust time and the Tabors became paupers. A new Colo Senator took pity and had Tabor named Postmaster of Denver.
After his death, Baby Doe went to live at the Matchless Mine. She was discovered dead on the floor in the form of the cross, arms outstretched. Haw had always told her "Don't sell the Matchless", believing silver would come back and save her from her extreme penury. It's believed there are millions more of ounces in that mine but time and flooding have made it too difficult and expensive for now.
. . . in the hills east of Beinn Dorain.
A rather depressing trait of modern technology is just how rapidly things evolve & improve. (I'm a pauper & can't keep up!)
I also took a similar photo with my cheap Chinese phone of the same scene. Compared to my 8-year-old SLR (model is more like 11 or 12 years-old) the smartphone handles the dynamic range with far better aplomb, retaining shadow detail & brightly lit clouds in tandem. The SLR's overall resolution & structure cannot be competed with, of course. (A much larger lens & image sensor will never be beaten by something almost microscopic, thank goodness!)
This flower reminds me of those fairy tales where the powerful witch dresses up as a pauper and asks a noble for help. When the noble scoffs at her, the witch puts a curse on them as punishment for their arrogance and lack of compassion.
This is the smallest of flowers, about an inch in diameter, that grows like a weed by the side of my driveway. It's only when I take out my macro lens that I see its magnificent beauty. Is it the witch, dressed as a weed, wondering who will notice something so small and insignificant? Or is it the noble, cursed to be the tiny flower of a weed, waiting for someone to set them free?
My macro lens takes me into the land of fairy tales :)

DOORKINS: THE REAL STORY
It was on one cold December morning in 2008 that a feral cat was found sitting on the doorstep of Southwark Cathedral, waiting for one of the Vergers to let her into the warm. At first she was an occasional visitor, alternating between the comfort of the cathedral and the leftover scraps from Borough Market. It didn't take long, however, for her to make the cathedral her permanent residence and she could be found waiting by the door each and every morning. Her spot by the entrance was what earned her the name "Doorkins".
Travellers, traders, "princes and paupers, prelates and prostitutes, poets, playwrights, prisoners and patients have all found refuge" at the church that has stood on this site since around 606 AD.* This culture of openness and inclusivity to all people (and cats) is at the very heart of Southwark Cathedral and its community.
The stories in this book are all based on true events from Doorkins' life. Visitors often find her napping in one of her many spots around the cathedral. Being a cat with both a well-developed sense of her own importance and little regard for formality, Doorkins has no compunctions about sleeping on the grandest chairs, and it was on one of these that HRH Queen Elizabeth found Doorkins when Her Majesty visited on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee.
Doorkins has integrated herself into every aspect of cathedral life. While the Vergers are responsible for feeding her, all the other staff and volunteers know that Doorkins will inevitably stick her nose into their business, and so accept her as part of the team. Like any devout member of the cathedral community, Doorkins regularly attends services and congregants are often surprised - and pleased - by the sight of our feline attendant.
Doorkins' story is not unlike many of those at Southwark Cathedral, in that she came through the doors one day and never left. Like many of us, she felt at home here - safe, loved and accepted for who she was (even if we did think "she" was a "he" for her first few years). Like most of us, she's had a few bumps in the road, but despite all her foibles - or perhaps because of them - she has become a cherished member of the cathedral community.

Got food here with some friends during my visit to Toronto a few years ago. This was in the before times, when going places without worries was a thing.
Edging the Boundary.

" That's life (that's life) that's what people say
You're riding high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June
I said, that's life (that's life) and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life (that's life) I tell ya, I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump…".
This clock tower in a Yorkshire asylum has what I think the best natural lighting of anywhere yet. The whirring of the working clock mechanics made for a real nice ambiance too.

Gonna be a penthouse pauper (Whoa)
Gonna be a millionaire (Whoa, yeah)
I'm gonna be a real fast talker (Whoa)
And have me a love affair (Whoa, yeah)
Gotta get my timing right
It's a test that I gotta pass
I'll chase you all the way to the stairway, honey
Kiss your sassafras
This body is similar to Ken Fashionistas but the end of the neck is different it is rounded, and it allows the head to have more rotation, the body belongs to Pauper Ken as Prince Dominick 2004...and the color of the body is different it is lighter, and Maxx head has a more orange tone.

Omg yay made it! Time to beat these hoes down one by one!
for the first theme, us Veterans had to be paired with a rookie, and I got paired up with Felicia. Our theme that we got chosen was "Princess and the Pauper", and I got the pauper. I really liked working with Gagabratz, shes so easy to work with, and since we were off from school, we decided to work on this to get over it. I'm not gonna lie I did most of the work, Felicia's owner took the photo and I took the rest from there, and Im happy with the final result! I added a vintage effect to make the "princess/pauper" feel make more sense.
I hope this is alright!~ (:
