These squirrels are certainly on the large side measuring up to 16 inches in length. This one photographed near the summit of Logan Pass in Montana was found in their typical mountain habitat.
At the time I took this photograph I didn't posses a zoom lens. As such even with a small crop it can be seen how tame the squirrel was.

By Land, By Sea, By Air....if the railroad can't take you there you take to the skies rivers and lakes to travel across the vast wilderness that is the 49th state. With more pilots per capita than any other state in the nation, Alaskans love to take to the skies.
Here a trio of float planes and a skiff are seen moored up at the small dock/marina at the south end of Upper Trail Lake as the northbound daily (in summer) Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic passenger train (210W) crosses over the Trail River at MP 29.5 on their 111 mile return trip to Anchorage from Seward with an SD70MAC/GP40-2 combo in charge. Rising beyond is the 5354 Solars Mountain here in the picturesque Kenai Mountain range.
On this day the sun rose at 4:22 AM and won't set until 11:39 PM so the passengers aboard will have a glorious view over the top of the mountains at Grandview and then along the shore of Turnagain Arm with a scheduled arrival back in the big city at 10:15 PM.

The Aberglaslyn Pass (Welsh: Bwlch Aberglaslyn) is a narrow gorge of considerable beauty in Snowdonia, Gwynedd, north Wales. The A498 road/A4085 road follows a relatively level route along the Afon Glaslyn through the pass from Beddgelert to Prenteg and then continues at the edge of the Traeth Mawr via Tremadog to Porthmadog.
As recently as the early 19th century, the river Glaslyn was navigable for small boats at high tide as far as Pont Aberglaslyn, which is just one mile south of Beddgelert, where a sixth-century monastery was succeeded in the twelfth by an Augustinian priory. In the Middle Ages Beddgelert was seen as a safe resting place before travelling further. The route from the coast via Beddgelert and overland to Caernarfon or Bangor via Llyn Cwellyn was often considered preferable to the long voyage round the Llŷn Peninsula.

You get times when getting up early has it's own rewards and this is one of those occasions, a flock of Canada Geese flying right passed the sun one of natures bonuses for me! a bit to do in PS with the contrasts though!

A surreal landscape on the edge of the sky
The Rikoti Pass (Georgian: რიკოთის უღელტეხილი) (el. 996 metres or 3,268 feet) is a mountain pass in the southern portion of the Likhi Range, a spur of the Greater Caucasus which divides Georgia into its western and eastern parts. The Tbilisi-Kutaisi highway connecting the two major cities of Georgia runs through the pass in a rock-cut tunnel of 1,722 m (5,650 ft) in length which was constructed in 1982.

Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

In a wicked display of smoke and sound, MRL #4400 emerges out of the west portal of Bozeman Tunnel after successfully scaling the pass. The current tunnel was completed by the Northern Pacific in 1945, replacing the original 1884 bore.

The House sparrow is an endearing, friendly little garden bird whose almost consistent year-round presence is always welcome. However, despite its notoriety as being one of the most sociable and gregarious birds in existence, it’s an understatement to say the sparrow has had a very tough time throughout history. It must be a decade since I photographed Winnats Pass at sunrise. I avoid it as it gets very busy, especially at weekends.
But I made the opportunity to visit today and it was quieter. Nice to bump into Phil Harrison again. the second time in as many months. Looking forward to your shots.
