This juvenile gcg would soon be chased off to give it's smaller sibling a chance.

You have seen the chick earlier. Here is an aggressively protective parent.

A project for the winter.

I recently made a photobook out of all the old photos and negatives that I have of my parents. I did a bit of research on my grandparents and great-grandparents and built of the story of my parents lives as best I could.

I had a copy printed for each of my children and one for the nursing home where my mother now lives.

This is a project that opens a window on a less documented time and is an investment for the future.

I used Lightroom to make the book and Blurb to publish.

Most parents think that their primary task in parenting young children is to care of them properly and schedule their day. Of course, all this is important. But a child's life is not limited just to these actions, especially in the first year of life: developachild.net/child-parenting-from-birth-to-12-months/

Just found. This beautiful portrait of my parents. By the young age, my guess is shortly after their marriage, 1949.

We've been watching a couple of oystercatchers raising two chicks.

It's great seeing them from our house, taking turns and alternating between hunting worms and feeding the young.

The same Parent Bug as featured a few days ago. Her eggs are now whiite rather than pale green, and she has been attacked by a Tachinid fly as evidenced in that egg on her pronotum. At one point she was missing from her clutch and a Harlequin larva was approaching at speed. It got dealt with and she returned soon after.

An adult King penguin and chick share a tender moment at Volunteer Point on the Falkland Islands. There were many youngsters in the large group shown in yesterday's picture, all staying close to their parents for protection and food.

Two other chicks are visible in the background, huddling beneath their parents. The adults feed the young until they are able to fend for themselves, and on the average have only one chick every two years. Both parents share in feeding, and it's difficult to tell whether this is the mother or father. The chick in this picture may in fact just be looking for breakfast!

Here's a link to some interesting information about the King penguins.

Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary says parenting became popular in print, way back in 1958. What does parenting mean? Parenting is a serious committment and takes time. Time spent on a child is worthwhile time. Time dedicated to raising a child will pass in a blink of an eye. Parenting means avoiding statements like, "I don't have time to help you."

Sometimes, parenting brings great pride and joy. Other times, parenting will cause a parent to shake a head, cry, become upset, and even say, "Help!" But with continuous effort, parenting will bring great rewards to both parent and child!

I am in the teaching profession. We recently held "parent, advisor, student" conferences at our high school! The conference was student lead! The student practiced introductions, handshaking, and eye contact. Always, there was plenty of praise by advisor and parent! Nevertheless, the parent-advisor-student also talked about ways the student could do even better! The student was encouraged to plan and think beyond the 2-4 years remaining in high school.

Attending this conference showed GOOD parenting! Giving this time to the student was time well spent! Three cheers for these families! So sad, for the families that didn't show or bother to let the school know they couldn't come.

Parenting....to love, to shelter, to listen, to guide and support, to prepare, and to let go... Take time parents to practice good parenting skills. It's worthwhile... (January 23, 2012)

If your baby has a birthday near Halloween, you put that baby in a pumpkin.

My parents reminded me that I hadn't seen them in a long time, and invited me to hang out in the pool and eat some food and catch up.

Kevin Parent at the 2013 Festival d'été de Vancouver. Great concert. Kevin sang some of my favourites including Father On The Go, which was the song that first introduced me to his music.

After I spend a summer in Taiwan and before I start my last year of graduate school, I take a week to hang out with my parents and old friends in my favorite city for all time. Also, my mom gave me her year-old Canon for my birthday!

The Owls by the speaker.

Two spectacular aircraft: a DC-3 (disguised as a C-47), and a P-51D Mustang.

The DC-3 is probably the most dependable airplane ever built, some are still flying after 80 years.

The P-51 was the fastest fighter-bomber prop plane to come out of WWII. They were also used in the Korean War despite the recent advent of fighter jets, with some seeing service into the 1980s.
