The Painted Redstart nests in Arizona and New Mexico, and they are ground nesters. I found this bird in a very bird road in the mountains up the road from Portal passed the Sunny Flats campground. If you bird in AZ, you have to bird along this road.
From Portal on up, you will find several warblers, the Blue-Throated mountain Gem, and Elegant Trogans, as well as many others species.
I haven't been there in several years, and I look forward to one day returning.

Painted Hills, in the northwest United States, is one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in Wheeler County, Oregon. It totals 3,132 acres (12.67 km2) and is located 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Mitchell, Oregon. The Painted Hills are listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon. Painted Hills is named after the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geological eras, formed when the area was an ancient river floodplain.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park as the sun is setting. The Black Canyon in Montrose, Colorado, is one of the lesser visited national parks. The Painted Wall is one of the more photographed sights in the park.

Sometimes you don't have to go far to get a half good shot, spotted this Painted Lady butterfly in the garden this afternoon.

The only Painted lady butterfly i've seen so far this year. Last year was a bumper year, they were everywhere.

I've always thought The Painted Bunting to be one of our most colorful birds! But, not until I took this shot from above did I realize just how striking they were!
A painted lady butterfly nectaring on a field scabious along the Cotswold Way public footpath between Aggs Hill and Prestbury Hill nature reserve in Gloucestershire.
Vanessa cardui is a well-known colorful butterfly, known as the painted lady, or formerly in North America as the cosmopolitan. This is one of the butterflies that are always around our gardens.
Sometimes the best bird of the day is close to home. After making the trip to the coast in search of migrants and having little luck I spent the last couple of hours of sunlight birding very near my home where I encountered this Painted Bunting. I’m sure glad he seems to have set up a territory and to be here for the summer. Lucky me!!

On Our walk up to the Iconistria Monastery we were on the lookout for flowers Niqui could embroider. We didn't really find any, but we did come across this beautiful Painted Lady, which was a bonus!

After not seeing any of these beautiful butterflies for a few years, it's been heartwarming to see a few Painted Ladies this summer.

This Painted Bunting was a nice way to start the day. I accidently flushed him from the side of the road while driving around in Brazoria County. I was pretty thrilled when I saw the perch he chose to land on.
