This week's assignment for Macro Mondays is "Lost/Found". At first it was a bit of a struggle to find a subject, but last weekend I was shooting pictures in my garden and I found this cochlea. The owner was lost and it even had a hole in the shell in the shape of a heart. Then it became a challenge to take a picture that was good enough to post on Flickr and Macro Mondays. I am totally satisfied with the outcome. I hope you like it too.

Legend has it that Pirene was the most beautiful daughter of the god Tubal, then owner of these lands. She had been named caretaker of the waters and she lived among the immensity of the forests, where she walked and enjoyed nature.
When Hercules was on his way to perform one of her twelve labors, she passed through one of the forests. At the meeting, the two fell in love and loved each other in the warm night. However, Hercules soon forgot his promises of love and decided to continue on his way, abandoning Pirene.
Rumors of the beauty of Tubal's daughter had also reached Gerion, a three-headed monster who lived in Erytheia. Gerion went to meet Pirene and tried to take her, but when she refused, he decided to burn the forest that burned in the flames.
The news reached Hercules, who retraced his steps to help Pirene. But when he arrived it was too late. He only found a lifeless body. Pirene had died in the fire.
Destroyed and sorry for her loss, Hercules decided to bury her among some enormous and beautiful stones, giving rise to the mountain range that would bear her name, the Pyrenees.

Cuando Hércules se dirigía a efectuar uno de sus doce trabajos, atravesó uno de los bosques. En el encuentro, los dos se enamoraron y se amaron en la noche tibia. Sin embargo, Hércules pronto olvidó sus promesas de amor y decidió continuar su camino, abandonando a Pirene.
Los rumores de la belleza de la hija de Tubal también habían llegado hasta Gerion, un mounstro de tres cabezas que vivía en Eriteia. Gerion fue al encuentro de Pirene e intentó tomarla, pero ante su rechazo, decidió quemar el bosque que ardió entre las llamas.
La noticia llegó a oídos de Hércules, que volvió sobre sus pasos para ayudar a Pirene. Pero cuando llegó ya era demasiado tarde. Solo encontró un cuerpo sin vida. Pirene había muerto en el incendio.
Destrozado y arrepentido por la pérdida, Hércules decidió enterrarla entre unas enormes y hermosas piedras, dando lugar a la cordillera que llevaría su nombre, los Pirineos.

I decided to go with a shot taken this week. Woody just finished nibbling on the ornamental grass and is now waiting to throw it up. My wife and I waited for him to throw it all up outside, but we obviously didn't wait long enough. His mommy had to clean up after him. It's a good thing she loves her baby. Happy Caturday!

Back In February I got the chance to do a winter meetup in the Canadian Rockies and it was a lot of good times and even better conditions. This image is from the Two Jack Lake area and we got a really nice sunrise but the lake was frozen and not much going on in terms of foreground so this image was taken inches from the ground to make the tiny little s-Curve look larger due to the distortion of the wide angle lense. Then used the transform tool to extend the length with the highlight dodge tool to extend it into the middle ground. This helped the image with the foreground and connecting the background.

This is the Marken lighthouse, given its name due to its shape ('paard' means 'horse' in dutch). The original was built in 1700, then reconstructed on top of the early foundations in 1839. It's still in use today for the recreational watersportsmen and woman.

I do recommend to see it large size. I myself was surprised to see the owner entering his house. Photo was taken when the evening falls. The lighthouse can only be reached by a half hour walking from Marken town. I went by bike ;-)
Het Paard van Marken is een vuurtoren van Marken. De vuurtoren is gebouwd in 1839 en staat op de oostelijke punt van het eiland. De toren heeft een hoogte van 16 meter en een lichtbereik van 16,7 km. De toren is begonnen als een vierkante vuurbaak in 1700. Later werden er gebouwen aan de vuurtoren gebouwd. Het beroep van vuurtorenwachter was ooit bijzonder zwaar omdat het voornamelijk bestond uit het voortdurend de hoge toren opslepen van hout of kolen, om het vuur op de juiste wijze brandend te houden. Vuurtorenwachters woonden vaak vlakbij de toren, eventueel zelfs in een aangebouwde woning zoals hier bij het Paard van Marken en het beroep ging over van vader op zoon. Pas met de komst van olielampen en dan met name de Argandse lamp in de achttiende eeuw kreeg de vuurtorenwachter het wat lichter.
Het beroep vuurtorenwachter bestaat niet meer. Er zijn nog een paar vuurtorens bemand, maar de mensen die daar zitten zijn eigenlijk verkeersleiders voor de scheepvaart. Zij hebben nog wel de functie van uitkijk, maar hebben geen bemoeienis meer met het licht. In de volksmond heten zij echter nog wel vuurtorenwachter.
