The last of the winter ice clings to the canyon surrounding Overlander falls as spring takes hold. The falls are named after the Overlanders expedition of 1862 when a group of around 150 men with one woman (and her three children) travelled across the prairies and through the Rocky Mountains to BC, intending to reach the Cariboo goldfields. The falls are in the early mountainous stretches of the Fraser River which subsequently flows 1,375 kilometers (854 mi) downstream towards Vancouver. The twice-weekly 'Overland' service from Adelaide to Melbourne drops downgrade near Callington, South Australia, on the morning of Thursday 1 December 2022.
The train is operated by tourist operator Journey Beyond and survives through subsidies provided by the Victorian and South Australian state governments.

Not long into its journey, VLine owned, EMD powered loco N462 leads The Overland Adelaide to Melbourne overnight passenger service through the Adelaide suburb of Lynton on 24 December 1993.
At this time the train was still running nightly in each direction, but loadings had decreased so that usually only one locomotive was required. These days the service has been reduced to just two return daylight workings per week.

For only a few minutes on our trip to Upper Antelope Canyon, the light rays came through, then a cloud came over and the light was gone. I was so lucky to be set up when the light came shining through. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend going here. Mom and I took our tour with Overland Canyon Tours and we went on the extended photographic tour. Our guide was great and pointed out nice spots to get pictures.

Ossa is the island's highest mountain. While not that high by global standards, worth considering that the whole Jurassic dolerite cap of the island was ground flat by sheet ice in the Pleistocene.
Among the gums with their white trunks are the skeletons of fire ravaged Pencil Pines (Athrotaxis cupressoides). Once a fire has gone through a stand of pines it's game over for them and the Eucalypts take over.

A bit of V/Line dominance in the Hills on a wet and miserable morning at Belair, South Australia, sometime in 1989. C509 and two S class locos (S301/S312) on MA5 intermodal freight has been looped to allow the overnight Overland passenger service from Melbourne, with N458/S310 in charge, to overtake. A lone Australian National 700 (706) tries its best to hide as fourth unit on MA5 - June 1989.
Small but a tough little bird…………
The Whippet was built by the Willys-Overland Corporation of Toledo, Ohio and was introduced in 1926. With a wheelbase that measured 100.25-inches, it was America's smallest car. It was also 200 pounds lighter than the equivalent four-cylinder Overland. Two engines were available including a four and a six. The engines were so durably that they eventually evolved into the powerplant for the Jeep more than a decade later.
In 1927, over 110,000 units were sold, making Willys-Overland third in the United States sales. However, with the onset of the Great Depression, Willys-Overland focused on a single low-cost car that would become the Willys 77.
The Model 98 was powered by a six-cylinder engine and was available as a Roadster, Coupe, Touring, Coach, and Sedan.
Production of the Whippet lasted from 1927 until 1931.

Hope you enjoy folks. Didn’t take the time or make the effort to extract the car out of its background and ran out of steam after spending hours to remove the sign that was plastered on the windshield (and on the windshield of every car at this concourse. Between the signs, placards, mobs of spectators, reflections, and dappled shadows from overhanging tree branches, trying to get unobstructed pictures of these cars was a “challenge” to say the least. And oh, did I also mention the blazing heat and humidity ………….. (just call me the complaining photographer ;)
