"The measuring and mixing always smoothed out her thinking processes - nothing was as calming as creaming butter - and when the kitchen was warm from the oven overheating and the smell of baking chocolate, she took final stock of where she'd been and where she was going."
~ Jennifer Crusie, Maybe This Time
17 September 2011: Saturday afternoon was baking day for me. The result: a luscious chocolate cherry chip bundt cake.
Baking is something I love and also something I'm good at. It calms me to measure the ingredients, to cream butter and sugar, to sift together flour and baking powder, to pour silky batter in well-greased tins. I usually also pour myself a glass of wine (or two), set the CD player to Ella Fitzgerald, and enter a better state of mind. If this also ends in melty chocolate, cherry cake ... so much the better.

Today has been so much fun - Adam and Michelle came over to shoot and help me with this shot. On her way here, Michelle's car engine overheated and we had to drive in the POURING rain onto the motorway, onto the hard shoulder armed with coolant and a high vis jacket (safety first and all). It was quite the adventure! When we got it started again I knew I could finally consider a career as a car mechanic. Now I understand why people love to fix things! I felt unstoppable. Next time I see someone with a flat tyre I am totally stopping and learning how to change it!!
Just as I lay down for this shot I lay on a bee and got stung! :( There is an exact moment of the stinging though - head to FB for all the laughs on that ;)

Aggie is the queen of the bed in the morning. My son came to our bedroom for a quick visit this morning. When I got up to get my day going Aggie snuggled between him and my wife for a good long cuddle. She even stayed this way when I got my camera to document it. Hard to believe that she's the rescue puppy who was afraid of us humans when we adopted her.
Meanwhile Bruno the overheated and Eva the hungry had already left the bed to search for a cooler place to lie down and a chance for breakfast respectively.

When I decided to do the impromptu trip to Bishop to capture the last proper view of the Galactic core of the milky way galaxy, I was only planning to get there before complete darkness set in. So I took the drive in a leisurely pace and was happy when I pulled in to the parking lot of the Schulman grove while the sun was just setting. It was freezing cold and I quickly got covered up with my mid-layer, puffer, and wind jacket and hiked up the trail to this particular Bristlecone Pine tree. The weirdest part was I started to get breathless as I gained elevation and realized that I was overheating, the slope where this tree is located was actually pretty warm.
Anyways as I got to the tree, I noticed that there was still some light by the peaks in the Sierra and quickly set up an evening shot on the slopes. I used a fallen tree log as my foreground interest and set the focus point on the tree. I had to be quick with the shot as there were other photographers who were setting up shots all around me. So I didn’t get enough time to figure out the hyperfocal distance or to use Nikon's focus shift photography setting to get the foreground in focus. But since I wanted to stress on the interesting shape of the pine and the color in the sky, I am not too worried about the lack of focus on the foreground, but generally, as a rule, its always good to make sure the closest objects in the frame are in sharp focus.
Again, this is a very simple shot with no filters or any other complicated settings. This was taken in aperture priority with iso locked in the lowest setting. I metered the shot using the brightest point in the sky as the D850 has epic shadow recovery ability and balanced the light in the image by dialing in exposure compensation referring the RGB histogram.
A shot taken in the autumnal late evening sun of the Lake Hayes valley. This was taken while I was waiting for my car to cool off after overheating on the way up to Wanaka which I was on my way to for a photography meetup! Annoyingly I never made it so this is the result of my own one-person photog meetup.

One of the largest spiders in North America, the Golden Silk Spider--or Banana Spider--(Nephila clavipes) is practically harmless to people. While it looks terrifying with its long, tufted legs and 3" size, it is shy and will not bite unless severely provoked. Even then, the effects are typically less painful than a bee sting. These beautiful spiders of the southeast build their webs on the edges of dense woodlands. They feast on many insects--including flies, wasps, bees, and other flying bugs--that they immobilize through biting. Interestingly, they are also prone to overheating in the sun, and it is theorized that their silvery carapaces are used to reflect sunlight and heat!

If proof was required that the diesel locomotives could not pass through the Oskova Washery tipping shed due to their axle-loading, as suggested at the time in some circles, then this image disproves that theory. Steam traction was eventually relieved of their regular duties at Oskova, although the diesels did have a habit of overheating during warmer months allowing steam's return occasionally. As 760mm gauge ČKD 0-6-0 tank No.25-30 nudges forward to facilitate discharge of its rake of side tipping wagons, a former Yugoslavian Railways Class 740 Bo-Bo diesel-hydraulic propels discharged wagons through the shed and back up the grade to the reception sidings during the early evening of 24th February 2015.

In July 1944 a B-29 Superfortress aircraft conducted a series of flight tests at the NACA Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory (now NASA Glenn) in Cleveland, Ohio. The tests were part of a national effort to get the new bomber into combat as the Allies sought to turn the tide in the Pacific theater of World War II.
Boeing designed the Superfortress to make precision bombing strikes from altitudes out of reach of enemy defenses. The revolutionary aircraft could fly higher and farther than previous bombers. The rush to get the aircraft into the war, however, resulted in an array of problems.
One of the primary concerns was the overheating of the aircraft’s four engines as they struggled to reach high altitudes with their heavy payloads. The center directed employees in our test facilities to figure out the various aspects of the R-3350 cooling issue.
What they discovered was that design of the R-3350 piston heads did not allow for enough heat dissipation, resulting in exhaust valve failures. Researchers designed a new elongated cylinder head that had enough surface area to properly disperse the heat.
The R-3350’s carburetor was also not distributing the fuel evenly to each of the engine’s valves, so engineers designed a new impeller to increase the injection flow and create a uniform fuel supply to the cylinders.
During evaluations of the engine in our wind tunnels, researchers discovered there was insufficient cooling in the engine’s exhaust area, so baffles were inserted into the engine to direct the cooling air flow to that area. They also redesigned cowl flaps to increase cooling air without causing further drag.
A B-29 arrived at the laboratory on June 22, 1944 to flight test the NACA findings. Technicians installed the new modifications in the bomber’s two left-wing engines. Test pilots from Wright Field tested it in the Cleveland skies ten times with different combinations of the modifications.
Overall the flight tests corroborated the wind tunnel and test stand studies. With proper fuel mixture and cowl flap settings the engine attained its maximum range on each flight. The baffles and fuel injection impeller increased performance by 38% during periods of maximum cooling. The investigators estimated that this translated into an extra 10,000 feet of altitude or 35,000 pounds of payload.
Thanks to our researchers, the Superfortresses overcame their early travails and became a decisive weapon in the final years of World War II. B-29s went on to perform refueling, reconnaissance, and patrol duties in the post-war years.

This machine gun uses light composite materials to reduce its overall weight. It is belt-fed and comes with a standard 75-round box.
A mechanism in the receiver allows for the use to unlock the barrel assembly and let it slide out of the handguard, being an efficient method to change overheated barrels.

July came in with a Bang! Sweet storm setup with small tornado potential this day. We knew before we went that this would be an outflow dominate storm. A shelf cloud that stretched all the way from South Dakota into Kansas. 286 Miles long as we intercepted this beast storm about 8:15pm near Beaver City Nebraska for starters.
For some odd reason my Canon T3i overheated this late evening so I wasn't able to get all the pics that wanted from this day. With that being said, I have limited photos from this event.
Though what we did capture was simply Storm Chasing Eye Candy! High instability with a huge mammatus field stretching from horizon to horizon. One of the best photographic shelf clouds of the 2020 season.
Best thing was, we got out in front of it again by Alma Nebraska... Surreal!
With pics from my smartphone and some video help from Myles Nelson I was able to put this vid together! Took a few weeks but the end result is of course ....Epic! Storm Chasing out in the plains of South Central Nebraska to kick off the month of July was simply a hoot!

With night falling, a large flock of Canada Geese soared high above - silent for once, and heading towards open water. There were no stars visible through the overcast sky and the shoreline below would have soon been obscured in the darkness. I can understand why they fly at night - with less turbulence in the air, no predators to contend with, and cooler temperatures to avoid overheating - it makes perfect sense. However, I don't understand what makes them such good navigators.
Happy Furry Friday to everyone from a sunny and warm France...!

It really works...! And they have them in camouflage print too! (grin)
The feet caught my interest, the back two are in an odd position. They are mostly in the shade of the body, and this was taken on a very hot Arizona day. There is obelisk posture (like a handstand) dragonflies assume to prevent overheating on sunny days. Sometimes a little fancy foot work is what it takes to get by when things get hot!
The V-11 Arrowhead was the successor to the T-65 X-Wing and was used as a light fighter bomber, reconnaissance fighter or air superiority fighter by the New Republic and saw its first use during the Thrawn Crisis. The V-11 Arrowhead's were a massive upgrade to the X-Wings of the Rebel Alliance. The design had a built-up front in which a large number of new sensors and target equipment were installed. The pilot was supported by an Astromech unit as co-pilot and in each wing was installed half a battery of proton torpedoes, allowing the Starfighter to quickly gain the upper hand in battle. Like its predecessors, the Arrowhead had an "S-foil mechanism" that helped the target sensors of the proton torpedoes to fire. Unlike most ships, the fighter was not powered by Tibanna gas, but by a mixture of 20% Tibanna gas and 80% Ratan fuel, which gave the fighter a speed that was difficult to achieve up to the time. A complex air filter system ran through the ship which helped cool the fuel. In the vacuum of space, the air intakes at the drives were sufficient to achieve the appropriate cooling, but in the atmosphere the air intakes at the nose had to be opened in order to reach the maximum speed there as well. This complex air filter system made the fighter incredibly popular by New Republic pilots as the fear of overheating and other technical problems was greatly reduced. Most V-11s spent most of their days in the ranks of Vector Squadron, a squadron consisting of various starfighters, bombers and BAAT as well as BAAD landers, which often reached their destination with little casualties due to the help of these shiptypes. The Starfighter received some modifications over the years but were still seen at the time of the Sith Eternal Empire and the subsequent Yuuzhan Vong Invasion.
Lieutenant Keeling, recently arrived from the Naval Intelligence Office in Port Woodhouse, was overheating.
Brickford Landing was hot and the breeze that he'd enjoyed earlier in the day had died down.
He removed his tricorn hat as Captain Keats brought him a letter to encrypt with the current ciphers. While sworn to secrecy, he was still personally interested to see what new intelligence had been gleaned from the captured Lotii scout.

On a sweltering 6th August 1992, 73131 'County of Surrey' in 'Dutch' livery passes Sherington, in the Wylye valley, with a Winfrith to Gloucester working conveying two nuclear flasks.
Winfrith Atomic Energy Establishment hosted a number of experimental nuclear reactors over the years, but the flasks pictured here are probably conveying spent fuel from the demonstration steam generating heavy water reactor (SGHWR) which fed into the national grid and was shut down in 1990. The SGHWR design was not used elsewhere and hence the flasks used were unique to Winfrith trains.
In those pre-internet days, I had no on the day 'gen' and so was here based on the working appearing in the weekly special traffic notice. As I got back into the car another even more desirable working passed - 33114 in NSE livery, hauling a long rake of withdrawn EMU stock en route from Bournemouth to Margam. Needless to say, this was not in the special traffic notice.
Prior to re-building in the 21st century, trips by class 73s away from the 3rd rail were unusual and they had a reputation (at least amongst enthusiasts) for often failing to reach their destination. The 600hp English Electric engine was considered underpowered and prone to overheating. However, on this day the working was running to time. But... did the class 73 make it to Westbury?
MULTIPROPRIETA' IN PERICOLO

Oasi dei Quadris, management is in danger: a petition to save it.
An online subscription has been activated to convince the Municipality of Fagagna to renew the agreement with the Amici dell'Oasi dei Quadris association, which has been taking care of animals for years.
The volunteers of the association are very concerned because entrusting the animals to people who do not know the species, especially in this period of drought, is very dangerous. Their existence could be jeopardized by not recognizing the symptoms related to heat, dehydration and the proliferation of some microorganisms due to overheating of the water.

....of nature.
With Ricoh GR, "only" 16mp and not even a full resolution upload at that.
The haven that is nature when people are cooped up at home due to the pandemic.
Been patiently waiting for the Oly 100-400mm f5-6.3 IS but unfortunately it’s actually heavier than Panasonic’s version (1,120gms vs 985gms) while being slower at the wide end. At the rumored price, one might as well just get a lightly used Oly 300mm f4 IS which is built to Olympus’ “Pro” specs. Reason why I preferred m4/3 for super telephoto needs is weight savings and crop factor coupled with highly effective IBIS.
Thus far FF IBIS on Sony and Nikon while very useful (5.5EV at 50-70mm) are not nearly as effective compared to m4/3 especially at the long end. This dramatically changed with Canon’s 2nd Gen mirrorless (both EOS R5 & R6), all of a sudden FF IBIS is as good as the m4/3 gold standard. Many have said that this was not possible given the much bigger FF sensor, just like Nikon which told its users it was not possible to fit in 2 card slots for their Z6 and Z7 only to recently release a Z5 with very similar dimensions but yet has 2 card slots, the internet shills who went into overdrive back then justifying why that 1 card slot on Z6 and Z7 was better and 2 was impossible yada-yada, where are they now?!
Canon advertised 6 stops of synced IBIS and IS for the R6 with RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 L IS! Canon R6 with RF 24-240mm f4-6.3 IS gets 6.5 stops, same as what I get on Oly E-M1 Mkii mated with Oly 12-100mm f4 IS Pro (equiv 24-200mm).
Personally, the effectiveness of the m4/3 IBIS mitigates the lower performance of the much smaller m4/3 sensor vs FF but with Canon’s 2nd gen mirrorless, this mitigating factor is gone!
It’s great to see Canon making such a strong foray and hopefully this will push Sony. Sony will seriously need to up their game on their IBIS and once and for all provide lossless compression and no dropping from 14bits to 12bits on certain shooting modes like continuous, LENR and silent shutter modes, all of which are totally unacceptable by now.
The new Bionz XR processor 1st used in the just announced A7SIII might just have all these fixed, hopefully. The preceding Bionz X was released 7 years ago in 2013 and used since the 1st Gen Sony A7 mirrorless cameras all the way till the A7R4!
The Japanese corporations tend to compete nondestructively and this is probably why m4/3 had their space with more effective IBIS coupled with compactness and lightweight. The pie has been shrinking fast and with Covid, perhaps there’s only the pie crust left available now, all gloves are off.
FF brands have also began to release much smaller and lighter lenses with slower apertures; Nikon Z 24-200mm f4-6.3VR (570gms) vs the Oly 12-100mm f4 IS Pro (561gms), at a shorter range we have the Canon RF 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS at a mere 395gms and capable of an incredible 8 stops of stabilization on R5 and R6. Then there’s that unconventional Canon RF 800mm f11 (1,260gms) capable of 4 stops IS vs the soon to be released Oly 100-400mm f5-6.3 IS (1,120gms) which in effect is equivalent to 800mm at the long end and no faster than f11 on an m4/3 sensor.
Suddenly the Oly 100-400mm doesn’t seem all that attractive anymore. With Canon’s 2nd Gen R5 and R6, the mitigating factors for m4/3 being stabilization and lightweight substantially diminished in one fell swoop.
Just speculation on my part but it’s plausible that the departure of Olympus in the m4/3 space meant brands like Canon no longer need to hold back.
Hopefully Sony will also get off their ass.
Not everything is perfect with 2nd Gen Canon though, the R5 8k video recording has serious overheating issues, on full electronic shutter 20fps drops to 6.8fps on low battery but no single camera available today can do all of what the R5 can and Canon should be applauded for that.
Postscript:
=========
It appears that the R5 applies some kind of sophisticated noise reduction in the RAW files at ISO lower than 800 giving it an apparent 2/3 stop improvement in dynamic range, not a good trend. Canon sensors traditionally have lagged behind Sony’s especially at low ISOs, at ISO800 and beyond the R5 sensor seems to match that of the A7R2 or A7R3.
Ricoh GR3 is another recent camera that appears to bake noise reduction into the RAWs and in this case at all ISO beyond ISO159. Not much literature on this regarding the GR3 strangely. Most of us prefer to perform our own noise reduction in post processing.
Some reports indicated the R5 sensor read-out speed to be around 1/60s which is similar to the Olympus E-M1 Mk2, highly respectable for 45mp!
The local car show circuit is still in lock down and usually this time of year they start.
We are approaching the ability to fully reopen and so I have a lot of images never processed so in hope and to practice here are a few.

Hippos must find places to live with deep lakes and rivers that are within walking distance of grasslands. Since hippos eat about 130 lb (59 kg) of food each day, they must find pastures that can support up to 81 hippos per sq. mile (31/sq. km). Hippos must be submerged in water, especially on very hot days, in order to cool themselves since hippos have very thin, naked skin. Due to their thin skin, hippos can easily become dehydrated or overheated.

My new novel
B♭ (B Flat)
The summer light of Manhattan afternoons flared against the glass facades of the high-rises, and each time the heat of the asphalt wavered through the alleys, the massive building of the FBI’s New York Field Office seemed to draw in the clamor of the city, holding a grave and immovable stillness, while within its walls a taut tension and vigilance seeped forth. Beyond the thick iron doors set into its corner, the countless eyes of surveillance cameras interlaced with the motions of guards, proclaiming an order unshaken by the heat waves or the murmur of the crowd outside.
Special Agent Veronica Reeves, carrying the weight of long years of experience yet with a gaze still honed to an unerring edge, sat at the long desk by the window, quietly deciphering the thick bundle of reports spread before her—accounts of what had unfolded thus far. The shafts of heat-laden sunlight pressed through the glass, warping the air, and against that trembling her thoughts held fast, focusing upon the minutiae, drawing out, in three dimensions, the possibilities of the case and the breadth of its consequences.
The figures and map symbols inscribed upon the documents she reassembled in her mind, as though enfolding the arteries of the overheated city itself—the courses of traffic, the currents of people, the compression of the skyline—ordering the incident’s first movements with a hand imbued with a quiet, frigid certainty. The sterile white light of the ceiling LEDs cast swaying shadows upon the papers, and even those faint tremors at the edges of her sight seemed to enter her calculus, like unknown variables absorbed into the mesh of her analysis.
Her fingertip traced a single point upon the map, and in that gesture she drew together the city’s flows, the density of its crowds, the thicket of its structures, conjuring within her mind a three-dimensional rendering of the ground. The clash of red and blue signals at intersections, the exhaust drifting at corners, the tempo of footsteps, the shadows of cars idling at the curb—all converged upon the figures and symbols of the page, lifting before her the living geometry of New York.
Fragments of reports crackled from radios and telephones, slipping into her net of thought and fixed into the coordinates of time and place. At what moment, in what place, had the current of the crowd shifted? Who might have slipped within which building? The jam of traffic, the swell of onlookers, the frameworks of the structures—these she aligned, reducing error to its smallest margin, until the hidden contours of the scene emerged.
Her eyes remained calm, but the faint tightening of the muscles around them betrayed the sense of danger running beneath. With her finger pressing upon a point on the map, she drew upon the memory of old cases, of the city’s blueprints, calculating risk along each imagined path. The city’s shape, the crowd’s density, the placing of exits—all she set upon a grid of logic, hypothesizing every possible turn the future might take.
Her gaze halted upon a photograph in the file, parsing the expressions of the crowd, the disposition of guards, the position of obstacles. Cold though her eyes remained, they missed no dissonance, no trace of the unnatural, intent upon catching every variable within the net of reason, undistracted by the fever of the summer city.
In the office, where the cool of the air conditioning crossed with the heat outside, her thoughts gathered speed—silent, assured, relentless. What would unfold next? Which routes were safe, which led into peril? Each decision, measured in the span of a heartbeat, bore upon the safety of the crowd, upon the life of the candidate. Her logic did not waver, its threads weaving together in her hand like cords unraveling the complexity of the city.
Before her stood not only the files, but also the glow of monitors, the static of radios. Each was but a source of fragments, meaningless until passed through the filter of her thought. To bind data to the streets, images to reality, was the task at hand, advancing cold and quiet even as the heat of summer pressed against the glass.
The sweltering air outside rattled the windows; the distant sirens and the rumble of the city did not shatter her focus, but rather deepened her mental simulation, lending depth to the field she constructed within. Figures on the page fused with the living breath of the streets, reason drawing them together into clarity, and she readied herself to strike upon the next move.
Each sweep of her fingertip across the map made the city’s avenues rise in relief within her mind: the density of buildings, the movement of passersby, the gaze of cameras, the stations of guards. All chained together, cold and inexorable, suggesting the next action. Veronica drew a long breath, and with her exhale, wove the scattered variables into a single fabric, fixing her gaze upon the heart of the incident. In that moment, the distant sirens, the horns, the shuffling of feet at a crosswalk—all dissolved into her reasoning, each sound settling into place like a piece of a puzzle within the flow of logic. The city shimmered in heat, light and shadow in feverish scatter, but her mind cut through the glare, quietly tracing the full outline of the unfolding event.
At last, Veronica lifted the receiver of the internal line, feeling the cold resin beneath her fingers, and summoned Deputy Special Agent Elliot.
“Put me through to Jack Vance, Secret Service.”
“Understood.”
The black Ford SUV cut through the summer heat, racing down the streets. At the wheel, Jack’s profile was set with strain, while in the backseat Ana leaned forward, arms stretched protectively over the children, shouting in desperation.
“Keep your eyes ahead, Jack!”
The children, jolted by the car’s violent tremors, cried out with voices that wavered between cheers and screams, unable to discern the line between fear and thrill. Beside them, Mika bit her lip, struck dumb, staring in mute shock.
Behind them, the pursuing car roared, bullets sparking off the asphalt and leaving the acrid tang of gunpowder in the air. Jack twisted the wheel, his Ford scraping sparks along a wall of concrete, gunfire rattling through the city’s very skin. Ignoring lights and crowds alike, he veered the SUV up onto the sidewalk, plunging forward as screams scattered into the air, driving on as if to outpace the terror that pursued them.

The moto meter on our approximately 1925 Depot Hack Model T. It lets us know if the engine is overheating.

Here it is. I gave up on the editing.
Manned interplanetary exploration vessel "Melancholy Emperor". Four ion thrusters, two airlocks (near the center), two docking ports (at the tips of the prongs) and backup experimental solar panels that double as IR-emitters in case of overheating. Able to safely leave Earth orbit due to fusion reactor generating it's own magnetic field and shielding it from radiation. The boom between the prongs holds external experiments which can be handled with manipulator arms.
Four SD18s are down to a walk as they drag a S. St. Paul-East Minneapolis transfer up the hill near Westminster and past the location of Minnesota Transportation Museum. It was 102 F when I took this photo, and the traction motors on the second unit were already in the early stages of overheating. The engineer did get this train off the grade soon enough that the second unit did stay online for the entire trip. Had it dropped off line, this train would have stalled immediately.
Sometimes technical faults can turn out great. When I took this shot of a common branded skipper (Hesperia comma) on a thistle, I was using a Meike MK300 flash, which in itself was nice - but mine kept overheating easily and when I took this it did - resulting in too weak flash power to properly expose the subject.
For some reason it came out quite cool anyway with a sort of psudo-backlight effect!
Flying around Denali was, once again, incredible. This was the first time in a small plane that I didn't barf! I did, however, barf in the helicopter when I got overheated in my double-down coat. Ugh.
I took this 5-shot aerial panorama with my Nikon d810 & Zeiss 100mm.

Lore entry written by @crackinbonks
When it is hot in the nest, bees use their wings as fans to attract warm air and allow cooler air to enter. Researchers have observed that rather than spreading through the entire entrance to the nest, bees clustered in areas warmer and kept those areas, which had the highest outflow of air, separated from the colder areas with the highest airflow. It is important to note that they discovered that the different bees had different temperature thresholds beyond which they would start to ventilate, so that collectively they were better at responding to temperature changes. Overheating inside the hive does not occur because bees maintain a stable temperature of 36 degrees by flapping their wings. The heat can instead make the flowers wither and dry the nectar inside them or the honeydew found on the fir trees. The beekeeper must ensure sufficient and continuous availability of water for the bees.
Looking back across the blue green lake of Graenavatn towards the old farm from the previous shot. Graenavatyn is a 6,000-year-old explosion crater with a blue-green lake in it, formed when molten lava overheated
Last winter I bought myself a new flash, a Godox Thinklite TT685C to replace the Meike MK-300 which began overheating every now and then. This meant designing a new diffuser and here is a shot from an intermediary diffusion solution. I had a too thick sheet of polystyrene which, though it diffused very nicely, meant that the flash couldn't push enough light through it when needed.
Here it worked out nicely, but on much of the shots from this day they came out severly underexposed, especially when there was very little foreground like with a bug on a thin twig.
Not really sure what hoverfly this is, but I'll update if I manage to figure it out.
Very rare track for a Big ED after arriving on the leg from Southampton Ocean Liner Terminal via a photo stop at Romsey. Having arrived at Railtour Standard Time there was not much time for photos here with just a six minute turn round following earlier overheating. At least it is back on the juice!

replaced my 325a with a more nimble fighter.. so far I like its ability to fight and stay in one piece. Need's to get better coolers for those overheating guns tho...grrrr
This position often used for thermoregulation. The abdomen is raised until it points to the sun, minimizing the area exposed to solar radiation and helping to prevent overheating on sunny days.
You can see some of the color of the wing in it's shadow.

This Runaway Truck Ramp is one of the most used ramps in the State of Colorado. There are thirteen ramps in the state and from January 2016 – April 2019 ramps were reportedly used 57 times, but it is likely ramps were used more times than the reported figure. This image is westbound I-70 coming down from the Eisenhower Tunnel into Silverthorne. The Eisenhower–Edwin C. Johnson Memorial Tunnel is a dual-bore, 1.7 miles long, four-lane vehicular tunnel 60 miles west of Denver and carries Interstate 70 under the Continental Divide from 11,158 feet in elevation down to about 9000 feet in an eight mile stretch. If I did my math correctly, that is a little over a 5% grade - not the steepest but steep enough to cause problems for truckers.
Before I retired, we lived at the bottom of this steep hill along I-70 in a condo that had an interstate view, and at least once a year (sometimes more) we saw a truck on fire due to overheated brakes coming down this long grade!

Colden, Adirondack High Peaks, NY
It looks colder than it was; or maybe I was just overheated from the climb. But everything was coated in snow and rimed with frost when I stopped to gaze at Mount Marcy, just beyond the trail sign demarcating the alpine zone. Here, above tree line, the stunted plants are more delicate, and it is prohibited to camp this high to preserve the flora. With a few hundred feet of elevation left, I soon returned to my task, summiting Mount Colden.
