This statue in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, is named Chavin, after a young woman of the name (1910-1966). Though she was nearly entirely paralyzed, Chavin swam some 40 laps daily. She met her love, George Wally, in this house during World War II, when she served in the Red Cross as a volunteer, using her wheelchair. Her widower dedicated this statue to her in 1983. The inscription ends, "May Chavin's beauty, intelligence, and courage be an inspirational light to us all."
