Slowly but sure where pushing towards Caen, unfortunately Jerry doesn't feel like running away just yet and we have to fight hard for every inch of ground.
Here at the back of the front line its pretty quite and we don't have to worry to much, our biggest fear is a mortar attack for the rest we have it easy compared to the front line. We can hear the noise of fighting in the distance, in between the moments, when we fire our rounds.

The original building (the assembly hall known as Kelzang Lhakang ) was built above a sacred sky-bural site, the stone slab of which is still to be seen on the floor within.

Tashilhunpo Monastery ,Tibetan: བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལྷུན་པོ་, full name in Tibetan of the monastery means: "all fortune and happiness gathered here" . Founded in 1447 by Gendun Drup, the First Dalai Lama. is a historic and culturally important monastery next to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet.
Pilgrims circumambulate the monastery on the Lingkor (sacred path) outside the walls.
Fortunately, although two-thirds of the buildings were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, they were mainly the residences for the 4,000 monks and the monastery itself was not as extensively damaged as most other monasteries in Tibet, for it was the seat of the Panchen Lama who remained in Chinese-controlled territory.

These refugee camps once housed millions of Afghans who fled after the Soviet invasion in 1979. The camps are massive and houses hundreds and thousands if not millions of people.
Some of the Afghans started returning after 2002, when the Taliban government fell.
The War on Terror was a reponse to the attack on the Twin Towers in New York on September 11, 2001. It changed the global scenario completely. George Bush Junior and his team wanted revenge and they got that by toppling the Taliban government in late 2001.
It did not end there. The Taliban started a guerilla warfare and many of them were pushed into the autonomous tribal belt of Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan. The tribes spoke the same language as the majority of the Taliban so they fit in well.
America and its puppet government led by Hamid Karzai complained that militants were crossing from Pakistan and attacking, then going back.
The Pakistani government led by Musharaf at the time did not take full action against the militants. They eventually became stronger and challenged the writ of the state in a number of north-western areas.
Public opinion against the Taliban in Pakistan was also turning. Pakistani intelligence organisations supported right-wing Islamic groups in Afghanistan as they were generally more pro-Pakistan. The current Afghan government is considered pro-India, Pakistan's arch rival.
The Taliban in Pakistan made some deals with the government but it began go back on its word and committed many human rights abuses.
Eventually it was not long before the Taliban tried to spread to other areas where most people did not accept them. This prompted the government and the army to take action against them and take control of the areas which had been taken over by the Taliban. Army action in the districts of Buner, Swat, Malakand, Dir and Bajaur led to millions of people fleeing their homes to other parts of the country. Most settled in nearby districts but some have travelled very far to be with relations.
These Internally Displaced People have a long road a head of them. In the short term most are not having their basic needs fulfilled. In the long-term the people will suffer because their properties will have been damaged, their livelihoods will have been disturbed and within the camps they will be exposed to all sorts of diseases.
Most of these people just wanted peace and being from poor backgrounds they want a decent income just to be able to feed their families. They are the real, silent victims of the War on Terror. They have been the ones to suffer the most because of the constant interference in this region by outside superpowers and lesser regional powers.
I hope people can donate some money to this very needy cause. We need to show them that they are not forgotten about and that one of them is just as equal a person to a life lost in 9/11.

Maras is a little town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 45 km outside of Cusco. It is well known for its nearby salt evaporation ponds, the Salinas de Maras, located at an elevation of 3,380 m. Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water from a local subterranean stream. The highly salty water emerges at a spring, a natural outlet of the underground stream. The flow is directed into an intricate system of tiny channels constructed so that the water runs gradually down onto the several hundred ancient terraced ponds.

A marsh grows in the pool outside the gym at the long abandoned Air Force base on the mountain above San Jose, CA. Mysterious animals were splashing and rustling around in the pool.

I just received my Canon EF 40mm 2.8 STM from Amazon today, so I had to test it out. Spring is here so I went outside to test out the lens, in the course of it I found this moss in the backyard growing between the bricks next to the fire pit. I had to lay almost completely flat on the ground for this angle but it was worth it.
Mike Olbinski and I went out monsoon chasing and saw this scene going on and had to pull over and shoot it. The sunsets in Arizona are nothing short of stunning. The monsoon clouds help a bit at adding interest, but even if they were not present, the colors and depth of sky are utterly phenomenal.
Though I mapped this here, I really have no idea where I was when we shot this. Mike, can you help out with this one? This was right next to the McDonalds if I remember correctly.

American White Pelican taken on Black Point Wildlife Drive at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Brevard County, Florida, USA. It's nice to see these magnificent birds in breeding plumage late in the winter before they leave for their spring breeding grounds.

The Obersee is an artificial lake outside the city of Bielefeld in East Westphalia. The local folks love the place and especially throughout weekends it is great fun to have a walk around the water. We used the perfect sunshine to enjoy November pleasures.
This lonely abandoned farmhouse outside tiny Meriden,IL. sits in near perfect isolation-no outbuildings,trees,or neighbors to keep it company.A Google Satellite view of it a few years back show barns and other outbuildings-all our gone except for this dead and nearly empty shell.A renovation of sorts was begun and abandoned awhile ago,and now vandals have had their way,breaking nearly every pane of glass and every remaining fixture in the house.But the elegant front double door,leading to a beautiful intact wooden staircase remain,as does the pocket doors and molded ceilings.That kind of makes the pain for this poor place worse-you see just enough to imagine what once was, instead of what is dying now....
I came across this poor house on a still,gloomy,and pretty ugly winter day.The sun was also in the wrong place(behind the house)so I'm not real happy with the way this turned out.Timing is sometimes everything,and time is unfortunately not what this place has much left off...

Florida designated the mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) as the official state bird in 1927. The Mockingbird is very famous. It even had a song written about it. "Listen To The Mockingbird" by Richard Milburn in 1855.
Full of personality, the mockingbird earns its name mimicking other birds, insects, animals and even human noises – like a car alarm! A male can learn up to 200 songs during its life, but the females rarely sing.
If you do find a female singing, notice that it is much softer than the male. Mockingbirds are quite common throughout the state and found in almost every habitat, including towns, suburbs, backyards, parks, forest edges and open land at low elevations. Mockingbirds eat mainly insects in the summer. During the fall and winter months they switch to mostly fruit and have been observed drinking sap from the cuts on recently pruned trees.
Many Floridians have experienced the wrath of the mockingbird defending its nest. Fiercely territorial, male mockingbirds have been known to recognize individual humans and will selectively attack them while ignoring other humans who pass by. Although we rarely intend to disturb nests, this behavior is not completely in vain. In southern Florida it has been noted that the strength of attacks against potential predators is directly associated with nesting success
The northern mockingbird is also the state bird of Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Surprised while hiking in the forest and sitting well protected in a little bothy I used the forced break to catch the short but heavy rain outside.
Because there was no chance to get the dancing droplets a little bit sharper I have used tilt shift to set the most interesting point in this image on the texture of the wooden picnic table.

Weil ich es nicht schaffte, die Tröpfchen schärfer abzulichten, hab ich Tilt Shift benutzt um den Blick auf die Musterung des Holzes zu richten.
Loggerhead Shrikes are found only in North America. They breed in open country, including grasslands and shrub-steppe areas, where there are scattered trees, tall shrubs, fence posts, utility wires, or other lookout posts. They tend to nest in northeast- or southeast-facing ravines. Loggerhead Shrikes prefer more open country than that preferred by Northern Shrikes.
The Loggerhead Shrike is most well known for its innovative use of barbed-wire and chain-link fences to impale its prey to cache for later. It is also called butcherbird or French Mockingbird.
Decline in population over the past years is not well understood, but may be due to decreased winter survivability and vehicle collisions, particularly involving juvenile birds. They are listed endangered in Maryland and Virginia and a species of special concern (SSC) in West Virginia. They are only still relatively common in Florida.
The San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike subspecies has been listed as endangered since 1977, with population numbers reaching as low as 14 individuals. Currently there are captive breeding and release programs in use to help increase their numbers.

It is five below zero outside today and two more snowstorms are coming our way. In two days it will be March and maybe things will warm up a bit. In spite of this, there are are a lot of interesting photo opps out there---regardless of the cold. I knew about this neighbors old truck that was parked out behind their barn for years and was waiting for the right conditions to make an image. The falling wet snow made the moment.
I used my Pentax K5, Pentax 18-135mm lens, Aperture 3, and Topaz to make this image.

Queenswood, Herefordshire. I stood around for at least 45 mins with camera on tripod hoping this gorgeous, little Squirrel would turn up. Couldn't believe my luck when he did ! AND the sun shone down on him through the trees at just the right moment too.

"Not all those who wander are lost"
This past week has been great! I found out I got 100% in my psychology a-level exam (!!!), i got my 5hr art exam out of the way (which included making a mini rain machine, which I am going to make in large scale next week), did a ton of editing of the pictures I took of all my sixth form at our spring ball a couple of weeks ago, and went to see Colin Fry live with my mum and dad! I've got two new photoshoots penciled in, one with the gorgeous Nhuc Tran, and one with a hairdressing salon. I am really really excited about both!
This was taken at Tittesworth Reservoir. It's gorgeous outside today, so it was really busy. That meant lots of people walking past whilst I was stood half naked in spanx shivering my butt off. I don't really get affected by doing shoots in public anymore, I would never have done this 6months ago, but now its not much of a big deal. I find people are usually interested and just like to have a look at whats going on. It's always made easier when you have people with you, though!!
