Early morning Sunday offered a wonderful view from Sharp Top of Round Top Mountain.
Thanks for taking a look! Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!!
A few miles outside the town of Drumheller is a small area with these very distinctive hoodoos. They are part of the badlands that surround the area. Hoodoos in Drumheller, Alberta, are a distinctive feature that continues to attract thousands of visitors each year. The sediments comprising these hoodoos were formed between 70 and 75 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period (wikipedia). The area attracts many tourists but these hoodoos are best photographed at Sunset.
Mother Osprey and baby are looking for the father to bring home some dinner. There is a second chick laying down out of view. Actually the male is busy fending off intruder birds, but eventually returned with fish for all.

This is Hardwick Hall estate in Derbyshire, England. A hard frost, and low level mist and fog made for some great photo opportunities this morning.
Another shot from last weeks trip to the Alabama Hills outside of Lone Pine, Ca.
A half-moon and a 20 second exposure provided the light for this image, with some minor adjustments in Lilghtroom.

Waders are quite usually shy birds, but this one common redshank (tringa totanus) was searching the marsh just in front of us.

here's another shot of that wonderful and ultrafast Golden Plover we managed to watch during a walk in Iceland. Again we can appreciate the perfect camouflage offered by his spotted plumage.

Just over the Nevada border from Death Valley is a "Ghost Town" called Rhyolite. It was a Gold Rush town that was estimated to have a population of 8,000 - 10,000. By 1919, the electricity to the town was shut off and it was abandoned.
These statues stand at the edge of town.

**Update - For those that have asked how I did it, I spot metered on the brightest part of the scene. Which in this case happened to be the white highlight surrounding the Wraiths. I didn't care if the sun blew out my highlights because I knew it would flare a bit. This just happens to be the unique flare that the Sigma 10-20mm gives.
This is the main street in East Looe in Cornwall. East and West Looe were once separate towns on opposite sides of the Looe River, but now they are simply Looe. They sit between two steep hillsides, so there has been little room for modern development, thank goodness. There are some really old buildings here, dating back to the 1600s and before, even though some have more modern shop fronts at ground level. There are also a number of buildings from the Victorian era. Fore Street looks busier than it really was because three of the guys in the picture - not the one with the tattoos, I hasten to add - were friends of mine and staying with me for a few days at my holiday home just outside the town!
What are the chances???
I was taking a whole bunch of photos around the outside of this old menswear manufacturing plant, and I decided to go for a steep angle. I got close to the wall and pointed the wideangle nearly straight up. I could hardly believe what I saw. The wind was carrying off the letters pretty quickly. I started shooting like a madman. This was the one with the least lens flare.

TO BE A TRAVELLING GYPSY PONY
That old adage springs to my ever questioning mind
“Look before you leap”
live life to the full before that final sleep
any promises you make; make sure you keep
the grass seems always greener to the unknowing flock of sheep
on the either side of that or any other divisive fence
one thing life has taught me
one thing truth has brought me
to count every blessing every single day
don't be complacent; do not relent
find the balance in the betwixt and between times
keep inside the joyful circle of the present tense
deep inside your beautiful heart's content
to be a travelling gypsy pony
a nomad; adventuress; princess of fairy stories
is a journey that I would love
no matter that the field is dry
tomorrow may bring a different sense
no need to settle in one place
no need to stop and wonder why
they are free to roam
and they have the instinct born in them
that always brings them home
the little one longs to play
with the neighbouring field of sheep
they eat green grass oblivious to his dreams
as he observes them so intense
what will tomorrow bring
does anyone really know
and does it matter really anyway
for any given moment is Heaven sent
and hope will get us through
and faith will bring us home
whatever happens to us
if we fall down in between
we will bounce like a rubber ball upright again
and the world will go on spinning
and some of it will go on sinning
but there is always hope of goodness winning
while the stillness within keeps us rooted to the ground
deep within our souls
where the echoes of our subconsciousness may be found
and like the gypsy ponies cycle continues round and round
we will find out where we belong
and our free spirits will sing loudly out their song
bolstering our courage; boisterous in our knowledge
that in this single given moment
we are young, we are free and we are strong...

“Finding Darkness in Rural America” is a new book I’m working on. I photographed this circa 1915 wooden granary in central Utah last week. Unlike today's round silos made of corrugated steel, the 100 year-old style of granary often looked like an unfinished building, with the framework on the outside for strength, and smooth horizontal planking on the inside to hold the grain. I love photographing the large animals ... elk, bison, bear, moose, etc., but there is also something very special about catching a little critter in a beautiful spot! I just loved the colors that displayed in this photo. He was atop lichen covered rocks with scrub oak in the background.

I finally got to get out of bed, wearing a back brace. Today I took advantage of the beautiful day and a mild climate, to take a walk outside, take the opportunity to do some shooting.
Finalmente ho potuto alzarmi dal letto, indossando un busto ortopedico. Oggi ho approfittato della bella giornata e dal clima mite, per fare una passeggiata all'aperto, approfittandone per fare qualche scatto.
Oakfield Park, Raphoe, County Donegal, Ireland
This beautiful calm lake is set in Oakfield Park. A privately owned house set in 100 acres of magnificent parkland, woodlands and gardens near the town of Raphoe in the heart of County Donegal.
Theres not alot of story to tell about the planning of this image as there simply was none whatsoever. I was feeling a little under the weather so as always I grabbed my camera bag and just drove my car unknowingly to where I would end up.
I decided on Oakfield park because it was nearby. I took a stroll around this calm little lake. Halfway around the sky suddenly changed to these vibrant colours during some light rain. This beautiful white swan seemed to have been following me whilst I was walking around so I got my camera out and here is the scene. Sometimes its just good not to plan anything and just see how things turns out...
Young cheetah in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.
He challenged the resident 2 brothers to take over the territory. He got involved in a big fight a few days before. The 2 males were relaxed as they are very experienced and in the majority.

Bidean nam Bian is the majestic range of mountains on the south side of Glen Coe.
This is The Three Sisters: Beinn Fhada, Gearr Aonach, and Aonach Dubh.
Glen Coe is a glen of volcanic origins, in the Highlands of Scotland. It is considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland. The glen, approaching by the main A82 road, is surrounded by wild and precipitous mountains. They are around 800-1100meters high, and popular for mountaineering.
This pano is stitch of 3 shots, processed from Raw. Sun was right opposite, so I have to wait for it hides behind clouds before I could shoot.
I took the shots after we returned from the hike to the Lost Valley what lays behind.
This is a full-frame shot of a Great Egret in breeding plumage. No wonder this bird is called great!

This 365 is TOUGH! Many days are a breeze as scenes fall into my lap.. other days I have to go out and do some landscape hunting. This one worked out ok.. but what the hell am I gonna do for tomorrow?
These two got into it in a big way. I couldn't believe I had the opportunity to photograph this clash. It was a pinch scary actually.
As wonderfully picturesque as the setting was with the beautiful wild horses enjoying the ocean breeze at water's edge, these guys reminded us all that yes, they are indeed wild.
My next few posts will highlight this side of that amazing day when two packs of horses took up residence near each other and several males decided to get it on.
