The majestic Grizzly bear! 🐻 Known for their immense size and strength, Grizzlies are one of the most iconic symbols of the wilderness. Found primarily in the western regions of North America, these magnificent creatures are characterized by their distinctive hump on their shoulders and their fearsome set of sharp claws. Despite their powerful appearance, Grizzly bears are typically peaceful and prefer to avoid human interaction. They primarily feed on vegetation, berries, and fish, and their role as apex predators helps maintain the ecological balance of their habitats. Let's cherish and respect these incredible animals and their natural habitats.
An Alaskan brown bear at a wildlife sanctuary, in Alaska funnily enough. Textured background added in post
I've posted a few from Catherine Hill Bay and it's "secret rockpools", but never looking south down the coast. The red conglomerate (I think that's what you call them) rocks caught my eye, being such a contrast to the blues and greens of nature here.
Fun fact for the day ... why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?
Have a great week ahead, and as always, thanks so much for your comments. They're genuinely appreciated.

Here is another different view from Tomahawk Beach. The rocks here were like walking on a pile of angry razor blades. They were deceptively sharp, loose, and full of hidden rock pools. Every step was a gamble, especially with the wind enthusiastically trying to blow me into the icy embrace of the cold dark Tasman Sea.
I loved every wobbly, wind-blasted second of it.
In other news, my wife just told me she broke my favourite lamp. I'll never be able to look at her in the same light again ;)
Happy Friday all! Thanks to everyone who takes the time to comment on my photos, they are greatly appreciated!

Waterscape 10/100 for 2025.
Looking across Middle Camp Gully yesterday toward Catherine Hill Bay Beach, on the way to the secret rockpools and Shark Hole via Baldy Cliff and the rock shelves. I think that just about maxes out my geographic feature noun quota for the day!
The water’s dark but clear, thanks to tannins from the gully’s runoff - as the title says, nature’s own tea brewing away.
A sunny 30°C today—perfect beach weather! But I’d probably say the same if it were 10°C and cloudy. 😉
Have a great latter part of the week and thanks for your comments, they are always truly appreciated! 😊
This view is what greets you when you emerge from the secret bush track, on the way to the secret rock pools at Catherine Hill Bay. They are just around that corner. You just need to scramble down the couple of layers of rock shelves and, tide allowing, and wander around the corner.
So here's something to think about that I find very cool: When you were born, you were, for a moment, the youngest person on earth :)
Thank you for any comments and likes, they are always greatly appreciated!

This result was taken on a very fruitful day in November 2019, when lots of fog was hanging around on the hills and valleys. If you are going to visit the woods as well, leave nothing than your footprints and do not take anything than your impressions.

Stunning capture of Georgian Mountains in summer! The snow-capped peaks and lush valleys under a clear blue sky are breathtaking. Your talent beautifully showcases nature's grandeur. Great work, truly inspiring!
Autumn is slowly sneaking up on us over here. The nights are starting to get cool, and longer. Thank goodness the ocean is still as warm as ever when you get in :)
This isn't the ocean though, obviously, and I didn't swim here. I'm not big on weed. I'd prefer to jump out of a boat in the middle of the ocean than walk through weed in a lake. Who knows what nasties are hiding in there!
Have a great weekend out there. Not sure about everyone else but we have a 4-day long weekend here for Easter. I saw the easter bunny last year, he was wearing a hat. I guess he was having a bad hare day ;)

Another from the back catalog. This is Haruna lake in Gunma prefecture. Usually a getaway spot during the hotter months.
Things were intense as I stood at Shore Acres State Park during a ferocious king tide event, battered by one of the most intense storms in recent memory. The night before, relentless winds roared through the trees, snapping a massive limb that crashed just feet from where I was camped—it could have been the end of me. Despite the chaos and a sleepless night, I went up to the shoreline the next day, spending hours in pounding rain and wind for the perfect moment. Finally, the ocean delivered—a towering wave exploded against the rocks, spraying skyward with immense force. In the frame, a lone figure in a red coat stood transfixed, a bold witness to nature’s raw power.
A male Bullfinch perched on a branch covered in moss, its vibrant colors contrasting against the cold winter backdrop. Trøndelag, Norway.
The hens are just as beautiful as the mallard drakes in my humble opinion!
Have a pleasant weekend everyone.
The sun is currently shining, so it's starting out wonderfully here! :-)

As a thick cover of fog laid over the hills and valleys around, this day in November offered superb opportunities for woodland photography throughout the day.

The Treska River carves its way here like a quiet breath through the heart of the Matka Canyon. High above the water, the rock walls rise steep and layered, shaped by time and patience. Their shadows drift slowly across the blue-green ribbon below, as if the mountains themselves are watching while the river continues on its course. The water lies calm, almost untouched, held between steep slopes dressed in autumn tones. There is no sense of haste here, no noise — only the suggestion of movement, far beneath you. The canyon opens layer by layer, each bend revealing new depth, new silence. Beyond the Saint Nicholas Šiševski Monastery, it is worth walking on a little further. It is there that the most beautiful view of the gorge unfolds: the river sinking deeper between the rocks, the walls gradually pulling apart, and the landscape revealing its true scale. A place where you do not just look, but pause. This is a landscape that reminds you of proportions — how small we are, and how vast nature can be. And how the river, unwavering and timeless, binds everything together: rock, light, and memory.
Matka Canyon is located in North Macedonia, just west of Skopje, near the village of Gorna Matka. The Treska River winds calmly through the heart of Matka Canyon, where steep limestone walls, shifting shadows, and deep silence define the landscape.
Once every century; or maybe just every weekend; the Paddle Oracle emerges from the mist. Wide-brimmed hat shielding ancient wisdom, silhouette sharp as prophecy, they glide across the water in search of answers. Not from the stars, but from the ripples. Legend says they can read your future in the wake of a well-timed paddle stroke. Others say they just enjoy the quiet and have a really good hat.
This black-and-white image captures the Oracle mid-journey: a solitary figure etched against shimmering water, distant trees watching like silent witnesses. It’s serene, mysterious, and just a little absurd, like all great legends. Whether you see a kayaker or a waterborne sage, this is a moment worth framing.

Kielder Water Pumping Station is a critical part of the Kielder Water Scheme, located in Northumberland, England. It forms a key component of one of the largest artificial lakes in the UK, Kielder Water. Built to support water management in the region, the pumping station plays a vital role in transferring water from Kielder Reservoir to rivers and other reservoirs across the North East, ensuring a reliable supply of water for both domestic and industrial use. It is situated near the Kielder Dam, close to the shore of the reservoir, and its modern, utilitarian design blends into the scenic, forested landscape surrounding the lake.
The station is part of a sophisticated water management system that operates in conjunction with the dam and other reservoirs, helping to balance water needs across a vast area. While it is an operational facility not generally open to the public, the surrounding Kielder Forest and water-based activities at the reservoir draw many visitors. Kielder Water and the pumping station are emblematic of how infrastructure and nature coexist in this remote, picturesque region of the UK.

Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. The hike to Toti Waterfall leads through a rugged mountain landscape with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and deep valleys. The trail winds along steep slopes and rocky paths, surrounded by dry grasslands and scattered shrubs. Along the way, impressive cliffs and natural formations add a unique character to the scenery. The fresh mountain air and the tranquility of nature make the journey an unforgettable experience. At the end, the spectacular Toti Waterfall awaits as a rewarding sight after the challenging climb.
This photo shows a beautiful view on the way back from Toti waterfall to Arsha waterfall. The golden autumn colours of the trees contrast beautifully with the rugged, rocky slopes and the snow-capped mountains in the background. The sun illuminates the leaves, giving nature an almost magical look. Such landscapes make the walk between these waterfalls impressive not only because of the water, but also because of the surrounding nature and the ever-changing views. A truly picturesque moment in the mountains!
