The other night there was a hard frost and when I went back to the park's garden, the dahlias were toast - they'd turned black and had keeled over. To cheer myself up, I thought I'd brighten this scene by modifying colours and adding an effect in Topaz Studio. HSS!

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving me a comment! I love hearing from you! Have an amazing day!

Cattails are a native plant species commonly found in fresh-water marshes. In many areas they are being displaced by invasive species such as Phragmites. At Lake St. Clair Metropark (and many other areas), aggressive measures have been taken to re-establish Cattails and other native species.

Cattails have "male and female" flowers. The large brown head (seen in the picture) are the pistillate flowers containing the seeds. The staminate flowers (male) would be found above the brown head during the summer, later falling off leaving the bare stem as shown in the picture

Somewhere or other there must surely be

The face not seen, the voice not heard,

The heart that not yet - never yet - ah me !

Made answer to my word.

Somewhere or other, may be near or far ;

Past land and sea, clean out of sight ;

Beyond the wandering moon, beyond the star

That tracks her night by night.

Somewhere or other, may be far or near ;

With just a wall, a hedge, between ;

With just the last leaves of the dying year

Fallen on a turf grown green.

My previous post, which I called “To the Dark Side”, was of a tunnel leading under a busy street in Windsor, Ontario. Well, this photograph is from the other side of that tunnel, as the sun began to rise at John’s Pond. Sometimes the dark side turns out to be something beautiful.

* We made a trip to Filey the other day I have not visited this little town for some time . It sits between Bridlington and Scarborough it's also at the end of the Wolds Way trail. This is a shot of the Brigg or as it is known locally Carr Naze. It was used in many of East Yorkshire cowboy films .

When you stand on the beach at Filey you can really see how the way the landscape changes on the East Coast of Yorkshire . If you look south you are able to see the sheer vertical Cliffs at Bempton these are chalk cliffs , in fact the northernmost chalk cliff in Britain. I have posted many shots of these cliffs as it is the site of the RSPB bird reserve .

If however you look to the North, Filey Brigg’s crumbling red cliffs look like badlands from the Wild West. The cliffs of Carr Naze, especially on the side facing the bay, are mostly composed of glacial deposits which are soft and easily eroded. Underlying these, and showing more clearly on the seaward side, are a succession of limestone and sandstone strata. At low tide these rocks can be seen to form an extensive platform on the bay side and towards Brigg End

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.

I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .

This is the second of two tugs that assisted/followed the Carnival Liberty out of the Harbor on St. Kitts in the summer of 2015. I had to capture these (there was another almost twin) because I loved the colors, especially after the rain. They were so vibrant compared to some of the others we had seen on our trip. This one is the Anjanvel. She helped fuel my desire to find and capture tugs and other work boats wherever I go.

"Now take me to other side

Little bitty blues bird flies

And gray clouds, or white walls, or blue skies

We gon' fly, feel alright!"

I saw the clouds moving in, as the sun was about to set, the other evening and immediately started scrambling around looking for something to use as foreground interest. The only thing I could find was this old gate. I know it is just a gate, but I thought it turned out kind of nice!! Comments and constructive criticism are always appreciated. Have a great week.

Along with the fox sparrow, posted yesterday, this spotted towhee dropped in near me.

Kuma comes first though

The other plants you passed up because

they were too prickly or

too ugly...

they were the safe ones.

Me, I am intoxicating

my beauty is transfixing.

You cannot resist admiring

or leaning in.

But, the joke is on you, fool.

Because I am going to eat you alive

Devour you like the carnivore I am

and eat your heart out first.

The other plants will watch in terror

In a way, they are weak of heart and spirit

They spend all their energy

trying to get you to trust them.

Yet, you fall prey to me!

Devoured like a sworn enemy

and yet, I have nothing against you

except maybe you should have heeded the words...

Don’t ever trust in the unkindness of beautiful strangers.

While storms and squalls were approaching from the west, this was the view on the other side, all sweetness and light. I'm always drawn to the dramatic, but found it hard to resist this beautiful late afternoon panorama. Not a soul about and clouds flying across, hard to beat really. The other side by Ron Sexsmith is fine.

An incredibly 'rare find' macro. 4 different forms of lichen growing within 25 centimetres of each other.

Initially I couldn't decide which photo to upload first. Between this and 'Worth The Wait'. The prior ended up being chosen first. But I still wanted to upload this one as well.

Sculpted by none other than Mother Nature's hand through centuries of craftwork.

I made this shot last month during the Lincoln County Photo Festival. The workshop was scheduled for a Saturday night with a core rising at around 10:15 and the moon to soon follow at 10:45, that leaves us about a half hour to get a shot provided the clouds cooperated. I'm always at odds with the weather because I'm usually wanting the best of both worlds, clouds in the morning and a clear sky at night than cloud up again in the mooring for sunrise. I know it's a tall order and it's only happened a few times over the last three years but I'm usually ecstatic to get two out of three. The shoot went well and the participants where happy with the class but I felt the best chances for a good comp and position would be the following night, so I decided to stay one more day and return by myself and take another stab at it. I like this location because I can back my car up with the hatch up while taking this photo on a comfy pad with a cold drink to my left and my iPod to the right. Who could ask for more.

Some of us, like me, take photos for the beauty of what we see in SL. Others make their beauty, some tell stories with their art or they have art with purpose.

scylla.rhiadra's art has meaning and purpose. Her photos tell a story , some of the stories are hard hitting , socially relevant and profound.

She uses darkness to help illuminate her story in a way that leaves me in awe. I did not experience her art till she bumped into me one day at 777 motors. I checked out a few of her exhibits at different galleries and was blown away with the topics she covered and shared with her arts in an SL gallery. I felt like I could have been at any modern museum , maybe in SoHo New York.

I was honored when she asked if I'd take a pic with her. Her version shows how much she understands the use of lighting and darkness to share her vision. I took a photo, she captured a moment.

Can I be on course

I go off a while miles away

Can I meet you heart

I heard all the stories, leave me astray

Can I make it mine

Put me together, lock it aside

Can I be on course

Despite all my wrongs I think that you will try

With wings of light

I'll be whole again

Take off for flying

All the mystery’s gone

I see truth in what it is

Don't know where you'll take me now

I’ll keep you around

I'll keep you around

You hold your ground

I heard that you wind me up when you're down

So let me be a part of where you are

I'll be there you'll see that I'll cry out

The depth of love's without a doubt

In the beginning of years, when the world was both so new and so old, in the Diamond Shaped Island of the Southern Pacific Ocean, there was a Moaï facing the island's interior and thinking a lot. The Caracara bird was used to tell him the stories of the Ocean’s side. And there was too a magic rainbow, because the time was magic.
