Began April 2014 and completed April 2017, a completely original interpretation in embroidery of a Norwegian Primstav - Carved Wood Calendar Stick - used in Norway long ago to keep track of the times during the year to pland, harvest, move cattle to summer pastures, etc. Christianity appeared and the stick became useful for remembering Saint and Holy days. Eventually however, the stick symbols returned to their original use and meanings. Symbols in some cases are faithful to those found on surviving calendar sticks; however, in others I have taken shameless liberties. The symbols in the inner circle represent personal special days as birthdays and other celebrations. Those on the outside of the circle represent many of the days marked on true calendar sticks. See Gingerbreadsnowflakes.com for the meanings of the winter side symbol in three posts beginning here: www.gingerbreadsnowflakes.com/node/924
