Owyhee (oh -WHY- hee) Reservoir or Owyhee Lake is a reservoir on the Owyhee River in Malheur County, Oregon. Located in far Eastern Oregon near the Idaho border, the reservoir is Oregon's longest at 52 miles (84 km).

The name of the lake is from the older spelling of "Hawaii." It was named for three Hawaiian trappers, in the employ of the North West Company, who were sent to explore the uncharted river. They failed to return to the rendezvous near the Boise River and were never seen again. Due to this, the lake and its region were named "Owyhee.

Thor's Well, the famous blow hole at the Oregon coast near Yachats, Oregon, blowing water at high tide (see www.atlasobscura.com/places/thor-s-well). Captured in April 2021, with a film era smc Pentax 77mm F1.8 Limited lens.

On this trip it was fun trying to come up with a variety of different compositions given the same subject and viewpoint.

For this shot, I found these rocks that are emerging from the still lake reminded me of the rocks placed in a zen garden.

They help to balance and ground the composition by introducing some visual weight at the bottom of the image, in addition to the depth they bring by being in the foreground.

Let me know what you think!

The fruits are not actually grapes. Oregon-grapes are species of flowering plant, in the family of Berberidaceae. It's a shrub that grows to 3 feet tall with spiny leathery leaves that resemble holly. Photographed in a botanical garden in Ontario, Canada.

Was out for a drive when we found this horse shoe in the hills. I jumped out of the car and struggled up a steep muddy hill to get this shot. Was it worth it? Yes.

(Temporarily Out of Service) I am limiting the number of images that I will be posting on Flickr for the next several months as I will be recovering from surgery. To keep active, I plan to post some of my older images and continue to favor and comment on the individuals I follow here. Hope to be back in full picture taking mode ASAP.
