Audubon Feb 2007 - With applying for (and not getting) a spot as a member of a Rotary Group Study Exchange program to South Africa and preparing for my upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., I've been busy. I did manage to get away for the weekend 10 days ago on the final field trip for this year's Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) Advanced Mountaineering School (AMS).
Robert, Bruce, and John planned the climb. As instructor and assistant instructor, respectively, James and I were supposed to make sure no one did anything stupid. I asked Tom, the school director, if that included things like wandering around in the winter and camping in the snow. He said, "no, stupid things result in someone returning from the trip on a stretcher." Given that criteria I succeeded in my assistant instructor role fabulously.
The plan was to walk up toward treeline on Saturday, set up camp in a sheltered spot, scout the beginning of the route for the following morning, get up early the next morning and take (more or less) the standard east slope route to the summit. The plan was executed flawlessly. From the summit we had the option to continue along the ridge to Paiute. 80 mph winds on the Divide dissuaded us. Instead we tied a good-sized rock to our climbing rope and flew it like a kite. I tried to get photos, but my fingers were numb.
So now I'm 1 out of 2 for AMS peak climbs. Our group didn't make the summit when I took AMS ~5 years ago. However, the climber that I shared a tent with for our AMS peak climb went on to summit Everest. How many people can claim that?!
This was my initial favorite pick for a bridesmaid dress (in red). They have it in pale green, but I couldn't find it in the store for my sister to try on. So once I find it, this may be the one!

My options are to construct the block using 2 triangles to make a block (as seen here). I would end up with the spiderwebs being off-set from each other. The other option is to make the blocks out of 4 triangles. This would end up with the spiderwebs being lined up in neat rows...I like the effect of the spiderwebs lined up, but I'm worried about construction...Decisions, decisions...

Думаю, не только я недоволен тем, как устроены ладони у моделей Real Grade. Вешать три неуказательных пальца на один слабый шаровой сустав – очень сомнительное решение. В новых моделях, начиная с mass production Zaku, стали добавлять option hands для ружья и так далее, но я считаю это полумерами для прогрессивной линии Real Grade.
Описываю альтернативный вариант, который «почти как Perfect Grade» (конечно, за дополнительные деньги).
В размере 1/144 (также есть и 1/100) рука Hobby Base Mechanical Hand имеет следующие невероятные возможности:
• Пять пальцев цельноготовых с тремя подвижными фалангами, по два сустава в каждом (см. на фото литник А), большой палец с шаровым суставом.
• Четыре сустава для соединения пальцев с ладонью, позволяющие сводить-разводить пальцы (маленькие детальки вверху на литнике В).
• Шарниры в запястье двух размеров, маленький шарик для Real Grade, шарик побольше для High Grade.
• Тыльная сторона ладони в двух вариантах.
• В наборе левая и правая ладони.
• В качестве бонуса ещё два кулака с вариантами тыльной стороны и большого пальца.
• Продаётся в двух цветовых вариантах, Gray (светло-серый) и Dark Gray (почти чёрный).
Руки в левой части фото сверху вниз:
• Кулак тёмно серый – G-Hand Dark Gray – С двумя вариантами тыльной стороны и двумя вариантами большого пальца. Как и у ладони, у кулака есть шарнир в запястье. Большой палец держится плохо, лучше его приклеить.
• Ладонь тёмно-серая – F-Hand Dark Gray – Также с двумя вариантами тыльной стороны.
• Ладонь Real Grade RX-78-2 для сравнения.
• Ладонь серая – F-Hand Gray.
• Ладонь серая – F-Hand Gray с обратной стороны. Можно видеть шаровой сустав большого пальца и сложные суставы остальных пальцев.
Особенности сборки:
Суставы для соединения пальцев с ладонью очень-очень маленькие, без пинцета вставить в ладонь я их не смог. В остальном всё достаточно легко собрать. Компания японская, литники Made in China, замечаний к качеству никаких нет, всё отлично.
Особенности эксплуатации:
Изделие, конечно, мелкое, поэтому нужно с ним с осторожностью. Я пока ничего не сломал, но соединение пальца с микросуставом, на мой взгляд – самое уязвимое место.
