I sit here tonight, weighing my options, wondering which way I should go.. Sometimes it's good to just stop and think about the choices we make in life - and the ramifications those choices have on the rest of our world. Curiousillusion/ decided to go with a re-usable glass straw today, doing her part to save the world one straw at a time... That's her choice..
Now it's my turn - do I go with the Chocolate Chip Mint ice cream - or the Bluebell Home-made Vanilla... It's a dilemma, I tell ya... I'm not sure whether either choice will actually save the planet - but it couldn't hurt, could it?
Today's Random Fact? Did you ever wonder where straws came from, and what they used before they came out with the ever-present plastic straw that we are so familiar with today?
"In 1888, Marvin Stone patented the spiral winding process to manufacture the first paper drinking straws. Stone was already a manufacturer of paper cigarette holders. His idea was to make paper drinking straws. Before his straws, beverage drinkers were using the natural rye grass straws."
Before I looked this up, I had totally forgotten about the paper straws we grew up drinking our chocolate milk and Kool-Aid through.. I haven't seen one in ages, and it makes me wonder if the paper straws might be a good alternative to plastic - or glass... And for the truly committed - maybe there's a market for the original rye grass straws.. Talk about renewable resources... What d'ya think????
Also for TRP's theme tonight - "30 Seconds" - in which you are supposed to take a picture within 30 seconds of... whatever - as far as I can tell... I took this picture within 30 seconds of deciding that it was time for ice cream - and yes - I can document that if need be...
