All around the world people are street marching in opposition to the government of the day, even in Melbourne!

Bitterly cold here but thankfully seeing conditions were conducive to me imaging Mars on opposition day. Poor weather in the early hours meant I was unable to image Mars being occluded by the moon.
Some nice detail is visible including the bright area left-most in the image which is the shield volcano Olympus Mons the largest volcano in the solar system. It rises over 72,000ft or 21.9km! The complex is roughly the size of Poland! It
The curve of the Solis Lacus the so-called "Eye of Mars" (hopefully for obvious reasons!) is visible towards the lower right.
Bluish ice clouds are visible to the lower left limb and on the right limb of the image. The North Polar Hood cloud (top) is still present but is showing signs of degradation.
Imaged with a Celestron C11 and an Explore Scientific Focal Extender. I used separate Baader RGB filters and a ZWO 290MM camera. The filtered images were combined and derotated using Winjupos.
Thanks for looking!!
Klaudia Vigh on the canvas while British Board of Boxing Control referee Martin gives the final countdown. Behind Klaudia, you can see the ringside doctor looking on in case he is needed. The guy walking off was one of the female boxers' cornermen. He knows it's over.
This fight between Kelly Morgan and Klaudia Vigh was held in Bath. It was on a bill of men's boxing (as women boxers don't get enough bums on seats for ticket sales), in the middle of the otherwise all male undercard.
Anyway, as soon as the mainly male audience saw it was women up next, about half got up from their seats to get a pint before the next men's fight. They had barely left the room before the fight was over before the first round had even finished, Kelly laying into Klaudia with an animal aggression that's rare to see in women's boxing.
The guys who'd left to get a pint were shocked it was over so quick and they missed part of the next fight because of their decision to leave. The reasons for going was a) women's boxing is s**t - (true, it mainly is in my experience as the money/decent opposition isn't there) - and b) the main reason was they didn't want to see the fairer sex act like men/get hurt even though they are "probably flipping dykes" (sic).
By the way, the ref Martin was one of the nicest refs on the circuit. He used to jokingly ask me to photoshop him to look good and get him at the best angles. He was not a sexist prick like many of them including the BBoC ref who very publicly told me to quit shooting mid-fight ONLY because I was a woman - this caused me to quit shooting boxing as it had happened once too often. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this IS the 21st century.
Anyway a new bw edit.

Last night, on the 27th April 2022, democracy ended in the United Kingdom.
This may sound melodramatic but if you consider the consequences for just a moment, the reality is nothing short of horrifying.
The UK Conservative Government have passed a number of bills through the House of Lords, after a number of attempts, where few opposition peers turned up late at night and these bills will receive automatic Royal Ascent today during the pre-election Proroguing of Parliament.
A new police and crime bill passed on 26th April that makes 'noisy protest' illegal and this includes any protest found to be disruptive. A right to peaceful (as in non-violent) protest is essential to a functional democracy.
A new elections bill passed on the 27th April that means that all voters now need to provide photographic I.D., excluding even myself from voting now as well as millions of others. In addition, and more worryingly, the bill allows the Conservative Government to control the Electoral Commission - the independent body that impartially protects the integrity of our elections, and democracy, will now be completely under the control of the current Government.
While our mainstream media is distracted by the 'dead cat' Tory sleaze stories of misogyny and MPs watching porn in the House of Commons, they are completely ignoring these new autocratic laws. Of course, the mainstream media is majority owned by Tory donors or run by Tory stooges. No wonder they wish to sell off Channel 4, the only television channel still holding Government to account.
Anyone wondering how the people of Germany allowed the country to slide into Fascist rule in the 1930s need look no further.
First they control the media, then they get away with breaking laws and telling lies with impunity. The sleaze and 'dead cat' stories then distract while laws and polices are pushed through that erode democracy. Oh, and the current Government are already scapegoating a couple of minority groups into 'the enemy' as well. Laws affecting these are already in place and more are planned. If you look deeper than the headlines you will see more in common with 1930s Germany than you would care to imagine. Ah, 'but we don't have concentration camps' you may say - well the bill making it possible for the Government to remove asylum seekers to Rwanda was also passed last night. Think these asylum seekers are all just 'economic migrants'? Think again. Any one of us is just one disaster away from becoming asylum seekers ourselves.
We now live in an elected dictatorship.
Mars is at it's closest approach to Earth until 2035. It's still 39 million miles away though. This is my second attempt at capturing a planet and while its not as good as others I've seen I'm happy with the amount of detail I was able to pull out of the bright red dot in the sky.

I began the evening polar aligning my scope with my guide scope/cam and SharpCap. After viewing some objects, and waiting for Mars to rise high in the sky, I put on a jacket, hat and set out to get everything ready. After locating Mars with the camera on my computer screen I fiddled with settings to try to get to 3 milliseconds for my exposures. I realized my focus wasn't perfect so I slewed the scope to a nearby star, Hamal. I used a bahtinov mask to get it as focused as I could and took the scope back to Mars. I got my setting dialed in and began to record. I did several sessions each being just under a minute of recording to get the 100,000 frames at 333fps. I then packed up and went to bed. - Today I used Autostakkert!3 to analyze each frame in my videos. I settled on one session that had high quality frames, since I shot so many I decided to really narrow it down to the best and told the program to stack the best 10%, or 10,000 frames. After stacking was complete I brought the outputted file into Registax. Using their processing tools I tweaked the histogram, color and then used the most powerful set of tools in the program, wavelets. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I know what makes an image "good". So I messed with each layer adding sharpness and de-noise until I got what I feel is a balance between resolution and not making the whole thing look like a digital artifact. I saved that as a TIFF and brought it into photoshop for some color tweaks, a bit of structure in Viveza and a last little bit of sharpness.

You have faced and continue to experience so much opposition, pain, harm, suffering and oppression. In this moment you were working so hard fighting the opposition. You started small, one little step at a time which eventually led to the moments when you put on your glove, picked up the old, ripped, frayed baseball and played catch with your children as you focused on being present with them, soaking up the setting sunlight, breathing, catching and throwing the ball all while in the middle of this great struggle that tries to hold you captive and prevent you from moving, thinking clearly, functioning and participating in life. You can’t do this alone: the supportive people who are in your life, prayer, and God’s loving presence all play a role and ultimately it is you who is choosing to do this work of fighting the opposition.
Saturn at Opposition
August 13-14, 2022
After a night of astronomy at the Von Braun Astronomical Society planetarium, I was inspired to drag my Celestron Edge HD8 telescope out for a look at Saturn. I caught it about 12 hours before the time it was nearest Earth for this year. Seeing was decent, so I got my camera set up and this happened. Not a best ever image (I hope!), but still OK for an imager as rusty as me

Taken using my new ND filter. Can see the visible blur of the leaves as the wind blew during the open of the shutter. Nevertheless I liked the way it turned out.

SOOC
The current opposition at breakfast time are these guys , the Kookaburras who started turning up about 5 weeks back . To try and stop the fighting I decided to throw their food up on the roof to keep the waring parties apart ... it works basically if timed right , at the start .. its a continuing story
