What do you get if you cross an iPod Touch owner with an avid World of Warcraft fan?
A World of Warcraft iPod Touch theme!
I downgraded the Touch to the 1.1.1 firmware, used Jailbreak on it, upgraded it to 1.1.2 firmware again, installed SummerBoard and OpenSSH. Used PuTTY to log into the Touch via WiFi, copied the iPhone theme over, tweaked it a bit as the iTouch doesn't work in exactly the same way then fannied around with some of the icons and here it is... iPod Touch WoW theme!
what better way to spend a beautiful summer day than redoing the hodgepodge of icons apple shipped on the iphone... definitely a work in progress.
Postscript: Make sure to see the icons in action on Alex's phone.
Download version 1.0 of iPhone replacement icons. After installing the BSD subsystem and OpenSSH on your phone using this method you can use an FTP application to replace all the icon.png files in the iPhone applications.
I've added another Slug to my home network, but at this time I patched up with Debian rather than Unslung.
It's incredible how such small low cost network storage device can be so versatile. Thanks to the Linux/Hacker community.

Spent some time on Sunday looking at different OS options for building a home server. I finally decided to give Ubuntu 9.10 Server edition a try.
At this point all I have done is install it on my machine with the OpenSSH, Print and Samba servers selected for installation.
I'll keep track of everything I do and will blog about it as things happen.
By the way, you may have noticed that I decided to use my old Dell M1210 to do this. It may seem strange, but since this is totally experimental, I didn't want to go out and buy a separate PC for this quite yet.
Anyway, I'll keep in touch about how/if this works.
I changed the carrier logo from AT&T to www.ahhyeah.com using Photoshop. To do this you first have to have your iPhone jailbroke. Then you will need to install OpenSSH from Cydia and connect from your computer via SSH.
This iPhone is on firmware 2.x so the file you need to replace for AT&T is located in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/ATT_US.bundle
If you are on a different carrier they are all located in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/
You just need to make 2 files, one for a dark background and one for a light background.
The dark one for the light background is called Default_CARRIER_ATT.png and the light one for the dark background is called FSO_CARRIER_ATT.png
The file size should be 78 wide by 20 high. They can be less than 78 wide. The file also must be in PNG format.
You can learn more about customizing your iPhone at www.appleiphoneschool.com

New IBM adverts appearing on TV.
Peace, love & IBM
I first saw this caption in a print advert last thursday (which I'll add in the near future). What's weird about it is - I can't really make out, what this is really about.
... Peace, love & ibm ... ?
Has the IBM marketing loosened the collar and starting a new 60's revival? WIll it support the core opensource software it charges its clients big $$$ for?
IBM & OpenSSH
Maybe its a feel good take away for companies who pay the minimum AUD40K for block of IBM time to look after their systems. When you read stuff like this (OpenSSL & Vendors such as IBM palming off support) the ads begin to make some sense.
Is this another dinosaur?

Shellshock, also known as Bashdoor
Vulnerability details for CVE-2014-6271
cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2014-6271/
A flaw in Apache web server allows me to have Interaction via remote-code execution. The local web address "10.0.0.30:6521" which I chose to use in order to set this up ethically could be replaced with any web server address set up on the attackers machine; likewise, as shown below the malicious web site will generate a reverse shell payload, execute it on a remote system, and get a shell. Certain services and applications allow remote unauthenticated attackers to provide environment variables, allowing them to exploit vulnerabilities. This vulnerability CVE-2014-6271 exploits a flaw in Bash, and multiple modules in the Apache HTTP Server and allows for arbitrary code execution.
This is the environment that I crafted.
GNU Bash through 4.3 processes trailing strings after function definitions in the values of environment variables, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted environment, as demonstrated by vectors involving the ForceCommand feature in OpenSSH sshd, the mod_cgi and mod_cgid modules in the Apache HTTP Server, scripts executed by unspecified DHCP clients, and other situations in which setting the environment occurs across a privilege boundary from Bash execution, aka "ShellShock." NOTE: the original fix for this issue was incorrect; CVE-2014-7169 has been assigned to cover the vulnerability that is still present after the incorrect fix.

I'm sure I can get Damien a contract from Coke with this photo. Just think of the advertising possibilities!
