wish you all my Flickfriends a happy new 2016 with open horizons !

a solitary figure sits at the edge of the sea, while two passersby cast long shadows into the fading day. like a cinematic freeze-frame, this image captures a brief intersection of solitude and motion — a silent dialogue between strangers, light, and time.

Captured just north of Nada, Texas, this golden sunrise washes across a dew-covered rice field on a misty morning. Birds soar in the warm light, and the flat Gulf Coast landscape stretches quietly into the horizon—showcasing the serene rhythm of life in Texas rice country.

Udabno is located in eastern Georgia — a world of vast emptiness and rolling hills, close to the border with Azerbaijan, offering a fascinating contrast to the green, mountainous regions of the country. Here, a sprawling semi-desert landscape unfolds, with colorful hills, dusty trails, and endless horizons. The earth shines in shades of yellow, red, and brown, especially when the sun hangs low in the sky, and the silence feels almost tangible. Not far from the village of Udabno lies Jikurebi Lake, a hidden gem tucked away in this rugged landscape. The Lake is a natural lake and the water level changes depending on the season. This small, peaceful lake is surrounded by gently rolling semi-desert hills and vast open plains. Thanks to its remote location, Jikurebi Lake feels incredibly serene — you’ll often have the whole place to yourself. The calm waters mirror the endless sky, and the area is perfect for quiet walks, picnics, or simply soaking up the silence. Occasionally, shepherds pass by with their flocks, adding to the timeless, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Especially in the early morning or at sunset, when the light turns golden and the hills glow with warm colors, Jikurebi Lake feels truly magical.

Udabno lies in eastern Georgia, where vast, rolling hills meet endless skies near the Azerbaijan border. The landscape here is a colorful tapestry of semi-desert terrain, with dusty trails and a silence that feels almost sacred. Hidden among these hills is Jikurebi Lake — a peaceful, remote spot perfect for quiet walks and reflection. The still water mirrors the sky, and sometimes shepherds pass by with their flocks, adding to the timeless beauty. At sunrise and sunset, when the hills glow in soft golds and reds, the lake feels nothing short of magical.

Shot from the dunes at Bunduff (Trawalua) Strand on the south side of Mullaghmore Bay, County Sligo, Ireland. Low tide draws a clean S-curve across the beach, with the Dartry Range—Benbulbin and Benwiskin—fading into rain across the bay.

This is a shot taken wearing waterproof boots standing in the middle of Iceland's Braurfoss (Bridge Falls). The blue sheen is the real color of this spectacular site. While Braurfoss is right on the famous Golden Circle, it requires a hike, so it's less visited than other spots on the route.

A South Texas dirt road stretching into the horizon, where the sun meets the sky and the past whispers through the dust. Out here, every mile carries the weight of stories untold — of travelers chasing freedom, of work and wandering, of silence as endless as the land itself. The road doesn’t just lead somewhere; it is the destination — a line etched in time across the Texas earth.

Bathed in gold while the land below sleeps, the mountain greets the day before everything else.

Silence spreads like a wordless prayer. The lake breathes slowly, as time dissolves along the line where water meets sky. Nothing asks for haste.

There is an invisible dialogue between she and the horizon – a conversation that needs no sound, only presence. The tree, stripped of its leaves, understands. It bends with the wind but stands tall, holding secrets that winter cannot erase.

The bench is not just a place to rest but a space where thoughts drift lightly, dancing between what is and what once was. Solitude, here, does not weigh heavy. It spreads like light over the water, turning every absence into a poem.

At the lake’s edge, what feels missing becomes whole.

***

A thin veil of mist lingers over the Routeburn River that flows through the valley covered in golden grass.

I took this photo while my wife was driving!

you can see the San Juan mountains

in the background!

A single sail, no map in sight—just the quiet luxury of going wherever the wind allows. Freedom, sometimes, is simply the absence of urgency.

A man sits alone on the shore, gazing at the endless sea under the midday sun.

Anachronism, Time, Memory

In this sequence of images, the gaze does not simply move forward:

it circulates, drifting through layers of time as one walks through a living material.

Presence belongs to the now; To what offers itself with immediate, almost tactile clarity.

Passage reaches toward the past, toward those zones of memory that resurface in every detail, like a remnant that continues to speak.

And the horizon opens onto the future, that subtle line toward which light always tends, even when everything else appears still.

Here, anachronism becomes a natural breath:

each image slips free from linear time and settles into several temporal layers at once.

The present leans toward the past, the past infiltrates the future, and the horizon gathers these three durations into a single luminous thread.

Thus, the gaze begins to move backward through time

not to reconstruct or explain, but to experience.

To sense that every fragment of the real already contains what has been, what endures, and what is yet to come.

A reminder that photography never captures an isolated instant,

but a constellation of overlapping times.

the bay of portixol breathes quietly in winter, its waves whispering against the rocks. the lifeguard's house is gone, dismantled like it is every year, leaving only the skeleton of the platform behind. a boy stands alone on the wooden stage, gazing out to where the sea meets the sky. the trees above sway gently, framing his silhouette against the open horizon. there is no rush, no sound but the wind and water. it feels like the world has paused, leaving him to dream of summers past and those yet to come.

Waiting for the hot air balloon launch that was cancelled.

So what is the first step? How does one get started? How do we begin to create an English classroom that explores more "modes of representation" than "language alone" (New London 64). William Kist attempts to give six areas of classification for a new literacies classroom. I will attempt to discuss them in my own interpretation.

First, is ongoing and continuous usage of multiple forms of representation (712). As discussed in the previous section, all types of representation would be looked at and created in this classroom. These could include, movies, scripts, plays, blog posts, music, art, etc. The language of the modes would be understood and used by students to create their own pieces. Kist says the teacher would becomes like a "coach of human expression" guiding students to find the best way to communicate (712). The relationship between the medium and the text would be central to student work, as they evaluate how that interaction enhances the project. The process of creation would be very valuable to student learning as they analyze mediums to "detect patterns, [form] and [test] hypotheses, and [integrate] knew knowledge with previous understandings" (Condon 273). Constructing what writing means in this way will solidify knowledge for students.
