Hundreds of people have gathered at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise on the first official day of autumn.

About 250 druids, pagans and visitors were given access to the stones to mark the autumn equinox for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

This terracotta “basket vase” was from the Mycenean period around 1400-1300 BC. The idea of the lids of jars like this being attached to the body so that they were together is a constant re-occurring theme. The dimensions of this jar are 10 5/8 inches, and it was probably wood-fired clay. According to the Met website, this vase is probably from Rhodes and the accession number is 06.1021.3a, b and was purchased in 1906 by the Rogers’ fund.
