BART police should let reporters do their jobs - Chronicle editorial
Whether it was incompetence or an act of aggression, the BART police did not distinguish themselves Thursday night in detaining journalists who were doing their job covering a demonstration...
BART spokesman Jim Allison attributed the brief detention of several journalists, including The Chronicle's Vivian Ho, to the noise and tension at the Powell Station. He said the crowd was warned in "at least six announcements" to disperse. Ho said she did not hear the warnings...
The outrage here is that police put Ho in handcuffs after she identified herself as a Chronicle reporter. She remained in handcuffs even after police retrieved a newspaper ID badge from her pocket. It was not a police-issued press pass, but it should have been a good clue that she was telling the truth...

Garcia is one of the most conservative columnists in the bay area, yet after an examiner reporter was handcuffed, he is considering the main demand of the protest - disband the bart police. He writes:
BART may not be able to determine who the bad guys are (though the protesters are usually the ones wearing masks and carrying signs), but the agency should definitely be able to identify credential-carrying journalists (who usually have notebooks, microphones and cameras). Yet last week, BART’s police reacted to another station protest by handcuffing and detaining reporters at the scene, including The San Francisco Examiner’s Andrea Koskey.
The words “overreaction” and “stupidity” come most immediately to mind, though BART police have already used them up. Making matters worse is that police were only dealing with a small crowd of demonstrators, suggesting that BART police cannot remain calm under pressure — providing more fuel to the idea that the agency should get out of the security business altogether.
The lack of judgment among BART officials continues to amaze. Reporters were kept in handcuffs after their media credentials were handed over. And while I admit that removing journalists from seeing further incompetence by transit officials must be tempting, as a general rule it tends to backfire, with media members being fickle about being manhandled by police.

Anonymous Announces BART Cyber Attack After Cell Phone Shutdown

Following BART’s illegal shut down of cell phone service last week to interrupt a protest at San Francisco Civic Center Station, the hacktivist group Anonymous promised to launch a cyber attack against the rapid transit system.
“For the people outside of San Francisco, show solidarity by using black fax, email bombs, and phone calls to the BART Board of Directors. BART decided to cut off your communications and now we will flood theirs,” the group said in a statement.
Anonymous calls the effort #OpBART. The statement includes links to media materials and “email and fax bomb info.”
The BART cell phone shutdown occurred on Thursday and took out service from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. PST at the Embarcadero, Montgomery Street, Powell Street, and Civic Center BART stations.
“Shutting down access to mobile phones is the wrong response to political protests, whether it’s halfway around the world or right here in San Francisco. You have the right to speak out. Both the California Constitution and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution protect your right to free expression,” the ACLU said following the outage, a violation of the Communications Act of 1934.
The outrageous BART action follows a call by British PM David Cameron to censor social media in response to riots in London. Cameron said the “free flow of information” can be a problem and promised the government will work with business to shut down internet and cell phone communications in the future.
Home Secretary Theresa May called for meetings with the three companies following Cameron’s statement.
BART’s cell phone shutdown reveals government will also preemptively strike media – like the dictator Mubarak did in Egypt before he was deposed – for political reasons.
Cameron set a precedent that will not be used by government to silence critics and the political opposition
China does this same thing during riots. They immediately shut down all communications in the city, cell phones, land lines, internet. After that they blockade the city with military; no one enters or leaves. China has hundreds of riots a year and if they did not do this then Chi-Com would not be in power. This is their procedure to keep riots from spreading and keep them isolated. The United States has the same procedures to do this with their threat fusion centers, paramilitary forces, and national guard. Even the UK has had this for some time but during the recent riots they’ve stood idly by. It’s a test, to get people as horrified as possible about riots that they will not mind their city being blockaded and communications shut down.
The UK is wholly capable of crushing any riot just as Chi-Com is. They’re letting people get a dose of fear so that they do not mind when the real, systematic oppression comes in. It’s blatant oppression being done in the name of public safety. Riots set the pretext for an excuse to use this procedure, then it gets used against large nonviolent protests. They’ve learned from the best.
Q: (T) They are monkeying around with that stuff. (L) Do the people in charge of the HAARP project know about all of this and are they constructing this HAARP array to utilize this energy in some way?
A: Those who know are at foundation.
Q: (T) To protect us?
A: HAARP is for mind control. It is hoped it can be successful in 4th density too!
Q: (L) Well, if these people are aware that this sort of thing is getting ready to happen... never mind. (A) We have been told that this magnetic disturbance is closely related to this realm border crossing, and you asked us the question 'what is the root of realm' and it is reality. Now, realm has an m at the end. Does this have something to do with magnetic?
A: Realm border is when the reality shifts for all.
Q: (A) Yes, but why is this reality shift related to magnetic field disturbance? What is the connection?
A: Your physiology and etheric orientation are both tied into the magnetic state of your environment.
Q: (L) Okay, you said before that the magnetic field is going to reverse...
A: Magnetic poles reverse.
Q: (L) Okay, what is the magnetic field going to do. It is going to change in some way. Is it going to increase, decrease... is this to a degree - something other than direction - amplification? (T) Will anything change in the strength of the field?
A: Let us illustrate. Now: Earth. [A circle is drawn with radiating spikes all around fairly close to the surface.] Earth after: [A circle is drawn with double radiating spikes with those in polar regions considerably longer than the others.]

But charges were quickly dropped because until Brooke Jenkins, the DA (Terrance Halinan, Kamala Harris, George Gascon, Chesa Boudin) always dropped charges on arrests at peaceful protests.
It took longer and help from the National Lawyers Guid for the BART police charges to be dropped.
amidst the heavy police presence of the opbart protests "coordinated" by anonymous, some clever folks did their own quiet street theatre.
most of my videos were of when i thought the tape wasn't taping, and this one clearly sucks, but you get the point.
