On the Southern Railway's Nilgiri metre gauge rack line in Tamil Nadu, India, X class 0-8-2T 37395 (SLM 4073/52) pauses at Wellington station with the 0800hrs Coonor to Ootacamund on 24 December 1978.

The rack section was on the lower part of the line between Mettupalayam and Coonor - beyond Coonor it is adhesion, although grades are still as steep as 1 in 25 in places. In steam days the loco was at the rear of the train for the whole journey.

The section above Coonor is now diesel worked, while the steam rack section is all a bit Micky Mouse these days.
