Happy Scarlet Sunday!!! And Happy March 1st!!!! Go on over the Shutter Sisters. Today have a new word up for the Oneword project. March's word is ~beautiful~ This is my first submission!

Today is the two year anniversary of the first day I met my beautiful daughter in Ethiopia. If you are interested here is a little video montage I put together back then with some pictures. I travelled with my mom to get her and my husband and boys stayed home. The trip was supposed to last 1 week and she was suppose to come back with me. But the Canadian Embassy did not issue her visa so she couldn't leave the country. I ended staying for almost a month and still no visa. I had to hire a nanny and leave her there to go back home to Canada. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. But I had no idea when they would issue her visa and my husband had taken too much time off work and i was running out of money. 2 weeks later they issued her visa and my adoption agency flew her home to me. Thats the little video you see at the end of the montage.

We were out the back of Richmond QLD, crossing the Flinders Highway where there is not much to see but dried up land and open spaces. What came to mind was a song by Talking Heads - On the Road to Nowhere

Well we know where we're going

But we don't know where we've been

And we know what we're knowing

But we can't say what we've seen

And we're not little children

And we know what we want

And the future is certain

Give us time to work it out

Yeah

We're on a road to nowhere

Come on inside

Taking that ride to nowhere

We'll take that ride

I'm feeling okay this morning

And you know

We're on the road to paradise

Here we go, here we go

We're on a ride to nowhere

Come on inside

Taking that ride to nowhere

We'll take that ride

Maybe you wonder where you are

I don't care

Here is where time is on our side

Take you there, take you there

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

There's a city in my mind

Come along and take that ride

And it's alright, baby, it's all right

And it's very far away

But it's growing day by day and it's all right

Baby, it's all right

Would you like to come along

You can help me sing the song

And it's all right, baby, it's all right

They can tell you what to do

But they'll make a fool of you

And it's all right, baby, it's all right

There's a city in my mind

Come along and take that ride

And it's alright, baby, it's all right

And it's very far away

But it's growing day by day and it's all right

Baby, it's all right, yeah

Would you like to come along

You can help me sing the song

And it's all right, baby, it's all right

They can tell you what to do

But they'll make a fool of you and it's all right

Baby, it's all right

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

Days of Shooting – Week 12 (w/b 24th September) One Word: Yes, just one word will make your photo for each day of this week …. whatever that one word is then please ensure that it is the focal point of the image. The “one word” should be the title of your photograph and where possible each day of the week should be of a different “one word” subject.

My Tendons ache.

I don’t want to grow tired.

My word for this year is create and since I've decided to try and combine my photography with my obsession with watercolor I'm going to need all the creativity I can muster!

When i look through a camera's viewfinder, i see color, i see light, i see freedom.

The freedom to create, to compose, to share with others what i see and how i see it. To speak through what i choose to have in focus. To show a little bit of me in what i choose as my subjects. To appreciate the little things that no one else sees, the hues, the angles, the details.

The magical ability to steal and paint with a moment. To stop time. To take a deep breath, and sigh happiness as i give myself the time to be grateful for the beauty i'm lucky enough to be viewing.

Squeezed this in on the last day that I could in time for the Shutter Sisters one word project, that word being "Express."

Another one that's good for Mortal Muses latest challenge "Your favorite photos"

When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you."

Created for Beyond Layers eCourse with Kim Klassen, using her textures Plaster Squared, Just Cause and Dusty Rose. This week's challenge is to create an image to represent a single word. Our word is contentment. ♥ We like having a little spring-like corner in our home during the winter days. It might not seem much, but it’s enough to brighten up the gloomy and rainy days.

Images like this are out of our comfort zone, but we hope to get better over time.

This summer I went through some kind of hell that I am still unable to be open about, and everyone here was so understanding. I want to thank you all. Things are not back to normal, but we are our of crisis mode. Taking photos and sharing them with my friends on Flickr is one of the things that's helped keep my head above water.

Four of you wrote me really lovely Flickr testimonials during this time, and I was so overwhelmed, I didn't even notice at first and once I did notice, although each testimonial brought me some much-appreciated sunshine, I never gave proper thank you's.

So I am sorry this took me so long, but on Saturday, when I saw this heart, I immediately thought of the love I wanted to show Anya, Gudrun, Aia, and Holly for their testimonials. I encourage everyone to visit their streams. They live in four different countries, but they all share an expressiveness in their photography that never fails to touch me. They all have many facets to their creativity. I will limit myself here to writing just a few of the things I love about each of them.

Anya's self-portraits are what drew me into her stream. There are so many things I love about them, but one is her use of space, using herself as part of a landscape. Anya is a woman of few words, but she doesn't need them -- her photos tell stories. There is calmness and love in Anya's photos that always soothes me.

Gudrun, is a designer, and it shows in her photography. Her composition, colors, crisp white backgrounds, and creative use of a wide angle lens and interesting perspectives are what jump out at me. She is a wonderful photographer, but I also get the sense that everything she touches takes on her beautiful sense of design. Her son, Torfi, is one of the most adorable children you will ever see -- he makes a great model.

I have known Aia for a long time now -- on another photography forum before I started taking flickr seriously (and that was nearly a year ago), and I feel like we've grown together. I've watched her progress in her gear and her skills, and I've always loved the way she shows quiet emotion in all her photos. Nowadays, she shoots almost entirely with film, and it's a joy to see what comes out of that camera.

Following Holly's stream is like reading the ongoing autobiography of a fascinating woman. Whether she's in the wilderness of South Africa or cruising her own neighborhood in Philadelphia, she takes photos with a journalistic flair. It is as fun to read what she writes about her photos as to see the photos themselves. She writes about the world around her and about her inner soul and always inspires me.

Thank you all for your testimonials and your ongoing friendship and support.

EDIT: I had Gudrun and Aia's links mixed up. They're fixed now.

so. i just had my next roll developed and had a little trouble with it too. i made a little mistake in handling my film last time and the roll was ruined, but this time i also had some similar trouble and there was no mistake in handling this roll. i'm thinking i may have bought a bad pack of film. there were a few shots that turned out okay but most didn't. on the upside...my kodak portra film is on the way :)
