Until 1958 the Sylvia Hotel was the tallest building in the West End – a well known landmark, its brick and terracotta extension decorated by the Virginia creeper that now completely covers the Gilford Street side of the hotel. Until superseded by the West-End building boom of the 1960s, the hotel restaurant's slogan was "Dine in the Sky".
Constructed in 1912, the Sylvia was designed as an apartment building. During the Depression the Sylvia Court Apartments fell on hard times, and in 1936 the building was converted into an apartment hotel.
In 1975 the Sylvia was designated by the City of Vancouver as a heritage building.

Bob Marley planted the seed of One love with his song and by the example of his short life. This expression though simple for a complex human problem; is a powerful panacea that every one who wish to have peace can execute on an individual level, and make huge change. This seed is growing into something big. Even with violence plaguing many parts of our planet; from regional conflicts and wars to gangs. That seed which he planted is growing into something powerful and tangible. It is our duty as peace lovers to nourish that tree and let it grow. This poster was designed in the same spirit of One Love.

MULINDI JAPAN ONE LOVE PROJECT was established by a Rwandan, Mr. GATERA RUDASINGWA, and a Japanese, Ms. MAMI YOSHIDA RUDASINGWA in 1996.
Gatera was born in 1954 in Kigali, Rwanda. Medical malpractice rendered him disabled.
Conflict in his home country of Rwanda, led him to escape to Kenya, where he met Mami, who was learning the Swahili language in Nairobi in 1989.
As their friendship grew, Mami learnt about the trials and conflict in Rwanda as well as the horrendous plight of the disabled.
His stories inspired Mami and in 1992, she decided to learn the art of making artificial limbs in Japan. Meanwhile Gatera looked for a location and the credentials to supply limbs.

One Love. ~ Israel, Palestine, and you ~
"You're John's son, right?"
Yoko Ono said to Bono when they met.
As far as I remember, this was during the time when U2 released their album "The Joshua Tree" and the movie "Rattle and Hum."
John Lennon, while living in the United States, opposed the Vietnam War and was at odds with the CIA.
In the movie "Rattle and Hum," U2's bassist, Adam Clayton, said the following:
"Some people believe that artists shouldn't make political statements."
Sitting across from him at the counter, he continued:
“F**k off."
I never understood their political actions from the past. But as I grew older, I woke up.
Japan seems to have no sense of crisis whatsoever on a daily basis.
Countries around the world quickly declared their positions.
"We support Israel." "We support Palestine."
What about Japan?
Japan avoided making a clear statement.
They probably argued that they should exercise restraint when it comes to matters of life and death involving weapons. But beneath the surface, there are economic issues as well. This country, heavily reliant on imports and exports, cannot survive without considering oil issues.
In sociology, it is said that diversity is crucial. To live day by day in peace, it is important for humans to be diplomatic and accommodating.
If we were to sum up those who succeed in a single phrase, it would come to this. The same applies to people who are struggling. They try to live by emphasizing only one aspect of themselves.
I don't deny either of them, I consider both of them necessary. Society needs both diplomats and those who emphasize only themselves. Society is constantly evolving due to the bumps and irregularities it encounters.
However, Japan, which has now become an advanced country, may have needed to take a more proactive stance and quickly declare its position to the world.
Japan is surrounded by the sea, and the United States is watching from behind.
When I was young, I was afraid that if I confused music and politics, I would lose my grasp on everything.
I just wanted to immerse myself in music purely.
It's a feeling similar to spending a whole night embraced by a woman's chest. It's not a momentary sense of release; for me, it's a lasting sense of relief.
U2 took various political actions while conquering the United States. At that time, they faced criticism with these words.
"It's a publicity stunt." "Do they want to be famous that badly?"
Partly due to the band's youth, these were the reactions they received from some parts of society.
However, they also performed live in Ukraine. The world would have marveled at that. They held a live concert on-site during a war.
'Publicity stunt.'
Those words that were thrown at them before are no longer relevant. An aging band that has achieved everything – status, honor, and money – risking it all. There was nothing there but the truth.
What they are asking. What Yoko Ono praised Bono for.
The one thing these have in common is just one.
One Love.
To convey their message of love, U2, who once dominated the world, took political stances and even performed live in times of conflict.
Currently, the border between Israel and Palestine is murky. It feels like sticking your hand into stagnant water, a sensation like that.
The history from the past to the present. The political appeals of both parties seem to be waiting for water to spring in the dry desert.
Israeli citizens remember their killed families and their hatred intensifies. They also fervently wish for their abducted family members to be returned.
The same goes for Palestinian citizens. Not only them, but people all over the world have this underlying thought.
In other words, the one thing that everyone universally holds dear is just one love.
Everyone is living to cherish the small, close love.
Both John Lennon and U2 have always conveyed just one thing.
One Love.
How long will we continue to search for this word?

「あなたは、ジョンの息子ね」
小野洋子氏がボノに会った際、そう声を掛けた。
僕の記憶では、U2がアルバム、ヨシュアトリー、そして映画ラトルアンドハムを公開した頃の話だったと思う。
ジョンレノンは、アメリカに住みながらもベトナム戦争に反対し、CIAに目をつけられ疎まれた。
映画ラトルアンドハムの中で、U2のベース、アダムクレイトンはこう言い放つ。
「アーティストは政治的な発言をすべきではないという人間がいる」
カウンターに座った彼はこう続ける。
「ファックオフ」
昔から僕には彼らの政治的な行動が理解できなかった。でも、老いてから僕は目を覚ました。
日本は日々、危機感が全くないのだ。
世界の国々は、自らの立場を瞬時に表明した。
「私たちは、イスラエルを支持する」「私たちは、パレスチナを支持する」
日本はどうだっただろうか？
日本は明言を避けた。
武器による人の生死に関して、まずは自制すべきだ。たぶんそんな主張だろう。
しかし、そこに見え隠れするのは、やはり経済問題だ。輸出入に大きく依存しているこの国は、原油問題を考えずには生きてゆけない。
社会学では、多面性こそが大切だという。人間が、平静を保って日々生きてゆくためには、八方美人であることが大事だということだ。
出世する人間らをひとことでまとめるとここに辿りつく。また、病んだ人間についても同じだ。病んだ人間は、自分の一面性だけを主張して生きてゆこうとする。
僕はいずれも否定しているわけではなく、いずれも必要だと考えている。社会には、八方美人も必要であり、自分だけを主張する人間も大切なのだ。
社会の凹凸の発生によって、社会は生まれ変わってゆくからだ。
しかし、現在先進国となった日本は、もう一歩踏み込んだ姿勢を、迅速に世界へ表明すべきだったかもしれない。
日本は周囲を海に囲われ、背後からアメリカが見守っている。
若かった僕は、音楽と政治を混同すると、あらゆる面で収集がつかなくなりそうで怖かった。
僕は純粋に音楽だけに浸りたかった。
それは女性の胸に一晩中抱かれて眠るようなそんな感覚に近い。一時の開放感ではなく、僕にとっては恒久的な安堵のようなものだ。
U2は全米を制覇するまでに、さまざまな政治的な行動も同時に起こしていた。当時、彼らを叩いた言葉はこれだ。
「売名行為だ」「そんなにしてまで売れたいのか」
バンドの若さもあってか、一部の社会からはそういう反応も返ってきた。
しかし、彼らはウクライナでもライブを行った。世界はライブに目を剥いただろう。戦争中に、現地でライブを開催したのだから。
’’売名行為’’
そこには以前、投げられた言葉は存在しない。地位も名誉も金も、すべてを手に入れた老いたバンド。彼らが危険を犯してまで身を投じる。そこには真実しか存在しなかった。
彼らが問いかけるもの。小野洋子氏がボノを称えたこと。
これらに共通するのは、たったひとつだ。
One Love.
たった一つの愛を訴えるために、世界を席巻中だったU2は政治的な発言と行動を起こし、戦火でもライブを行なったのだ。
現在、イスラエルとパレスチナの境界線が濁っている。淀んだ水の中に手を突っ込むような、そんな感覚だ。
過去から現在までの歴史。両者の政治的な訴えは、乾いた砂漠の中で、水が湧くのを待っているかのようだ。
イスラエルの市民は、殺された家族を思い、憎しみを増幅させる。また、連れ去れられた家族を返して欲しいと切に願う。
パレスチナの市民も同様だ。彼らに限らず、世界中の誰もがこの考えを根底に持っている。
つまり共通している大切なこととは、たったひとつの愛だ。
身近で小さな愛を尊く想うために、誰もが生きている。
ジョンレノンも、U2も、ずっと伝えてきたことはひとつだけだ。
One Love.
僕らはいつまでこの言葉を探し続けるのだろうか？
１０月９日はジョンレノンの誕生日だった。
空から彼は、何を想っているだろうか？

When I found this large drop of berry-juice-jelly amethyst, it inspired me to create a timeless-design, fit enough to be estate-jewelry. I have purposely incorporated that kind of imperfection in silver-carving which belongs to olden-days, going to the extent of buffing-off stamped-mark so as to indicate old and lovingly used jewelry piece.
When attempting to make jewelry dedicated to love, obvious choice is a heart shape, but I wanted to use this drop like shape to take essence from love-juice.
I cannot wait for some prince-charming buy this off for his sweet-love! 😍
