This boardwalk used to span to the other side of the shore. A couple of years ago the waves destroyed part of the boardwalk. This is the first time I have been able to walk on the boardwalk. The mighty Superior can do some real damage.

At home in SL posing on my boardwalk. Well a girl has to get familiar with her new home. It is nice though when Claudio my partner comes inworld but then what else can we do but have intimate times.....
Woke up early one morning to catch the sunrise and some bokeh light at the beach. Couldn't wait for bokeh wednesday to share with you! :)
HBW!

On a beautiful mid-winter morning, this cooperative cormorant turned his noble profile to me and allowed me to click away as he sat serenely sunning himself dry after fishing for his breakfast.
This is the most commonly seen cormorant in the Eastern US. Black with broad orange throat pouch. "Double crested" refers to crests that grow during breeding season, but are very hard to see.
Cormorants feed by diving and swimming underwater, eating mostly fish. After fishing, they can be seen standing with wings outstretched to dry.

...the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that is - the buildings are quite colorful anyway, but I fiddled here trying to make something that resembled an old era postcard....??....
Was one of my fav places to sit and read. Took this photo so when I'm in london I can remember my lovely holiday.
You can be sure that none of this pirate's shipmates will recognize him from this photo. And if any of his shipmates attended the parade, they wouldn't have known him with this disguise.
His own mother wouldn't know him! He's transformed himself into a kind of surreal objet d'art...
I love the red pattern, which is vaguely reminiscent of Maori tattoos, although much larger. He's holding onto his hat because it was an extremely windy day and it would have flown away, "blowing his cover," as it were...
I would have enjoyed talking with him during my little photo shoot of him, but he was in total mystery mode. Perhaps he subscribes to the adage, "Loose lips sink ships."
But could I possibly be taken for someone interested in sinking a ship--albeit a pirate ship???

The light was heavenly when late afternoon arrived, and a tenacious breeze was still blowing hair into the mermaids' faces...
But the parade was over, and they were relaxing on the boardwalk--which is when mermaids are at their best! I was able to get several shots of this mermaid, but this is the one where the light, her smile and the wind all collaborated to create a magical portrait.
As luck would have it, as I made the shot, a man walked by whose shirt matched this mermaid's necklace and eye-shadow. Talk about serendipity!

Like most landlubbers, I know very little about the morphology of mermaids. But I do understand that if a mermaid's "tail" is substantially longer than her upper body, when she stand on her tail, she will be much taller than most mermaids (or humans).
I only saw a few of these extra-tall mermaids on the boardwalk after the parade, but they were impressive. Most of the rest of us barely reached their waists! And each of these giant mermaids was dressed and decorated very differently; it's not because they're tall that they should look the same...
It's not easy being "different" in this world, but these giants seemed very much a part of their community; other mermaids and mer-people were congregated around them and I got the impression that they were well-loved, even well-respected. It was very reassuring...
