A street pic on Rue Masséna by Old Town Nice (Vieux Nice), France. Vieux Nice starts the next street over a block away. The Côte d'Azur in Provence is beautiful year round. Nice is a great little beach town summer and winter. It's sits between Monaco and Cannes. There are plenty of medieval hill towns to explore here. It's also about 6 hours via train to Cinque de Terra, Italy. #UNESCO #NiceFrance #France #OldTownNice #RueMasséna #CôteD'Azur

Walking thru an alley in Vieux, Nice. A view of the clocktower at the Rusca Palace built in 1775 as a military barracks. It's now the Palais De Justice. Though the bell tower resembles a church I haven't read where it was ever a church. I believe it was more symbolic. #CôteD'Azur #VieuxNice #France #alley #RuscaPalace #1775 #ClockTower #OldTownNice #PalaisRusca

[Reposting this one....I think I am feeling homesick for France!]

The little dog was patiently waiting for her friend, huddled near as possible on what was a very chilly March morning. The streets were deserted -- it was before breakfast -- and I had only a few hours to enjoy a taste of Nice while waiting for my next train. I loved the flavor of Southern France that shone through in this glimpse of street life in the Old Town.

Another view of this scene, in B & W is here: www.flickr.com/photos/44548980@N00/327285513/in/set-72157...

Twice I visited the Mediterranean town of Nice in the hopes of finding the 'soul of Old Nice' ... and for me this photo of the partially open blue shutters on a sunny morning, with the mimosa in bloom, is one of those glimpses.

(So are the images that I also want to share with you, of the little dog below, patiently waiting for her friend on one of the quiet little back streets of the Vielle Ville - Old Town - of Nice. All were taken early in the morning, but with two different cameras and on two separate visits. I have to admit that the black and white shot of the Little Dog, is one of my very favorite photos. ^.^ Maybe it's because I was hoping to find just such a scene, and it appeared, as if by magic.)

It was about 7 AM on a chilly French Riviera morning....and this sweet little dog caught my eye, as she waited patiently for her friend. My other version of this image -- from another angle, and in color! is here: www.flickr.com/photos/44548980@N00/153619453/in/set-72157...

This is the monochrome version of a color photo I took several years ago with my first digital camera, the Olympus Camedia 2.3. (I think it was 10 years ago already!!)

Behind this regal shutter lies one of Old Nice’s liveliest haunts. At King’s Pub, you’re greeted like a local (by your second visit), serenaded by Côte d’Azur rock, and — come the weekend — encouraged to sing, dance, and maybe even climb on the tables. Add a terrace for balmy nights, and you’ve got a royal invitation you can’t refuse.
